Mein Herz ist in Deutschland

Chapter 4

The person in the mirror was not the person Aubrey usually looks at. Her curly hair was straight and make-up adorned to her eyes, making the already piercing gold color pop out more. She blinked slowly and brought up her gloved hand, with newly painted black nails, and touched her cheeks, then her eyes, and then the mirror, just to make sure this was not a joke. Aubrey’s chocolate hands touched the silver chains and crosses on her neck and went down to her shirt, which read ‘We Bite’. Her hands made it all the way down to the bottom of the shirt and she looked down to see her stomach in all of its glory. She frowned and tried to pull it down, but the fabric was not budging. She took in a deep breath and turned around, looking at Bill,

“It’s showing off my stomach, Bill! Gimmy another shirt!” She nearly cried. Bill looked over her slowly and then smirked,

“No, it will ruin your make-up, Aubrey.”

“And it’s hübsches verfluchtes reizvolles!” Tom said, grinning at Aubrey. Bill looked at Tom and sighed hard, shaking his head. Aubrey looked at the two of them with big eyes and put her fingers through her hair,

“What does that mean?”

“Pretty damn sexy,” Bill said quietly, putting his own jewelry on. He walked over to the dresser and started to apply hair wax in his hair. He was trying his best to ignore the look that Aubrey was giving him, but it didn’t work. A blush started to spread across his cheeks, and he kept making his hair just how he wanted it, extremely spiky. Tom laughed loudly, and put his hand on his stomach. Aubrey cheeks flushed up quickly and she looked down at the ground. Without realizing what she was doing, her ungloved hand went to her ears and started to rub them. Suddenly, Aubrey turned around, picking up her glasses, putting them on her face. She took a deep relaxing sigh, remembering the feeling of blending in, “What are you doing!” Bill cried, pulling the glasses off her face. Aubrey looked at him in horror,

“I can’t see without my glasses.”

“Liar! You can see just fine! You have beautiful eyes and I think you shouldn’t wear them.”

“It doesn’t matter what you think! Give me back my glasses!” She cried lunging for them. He smirked and put them above his head, sticking out his tongue. Tom raised an eyebrow and giggled quietly to himself,

“Sie sollten nicht bitten mich nicht zu flirten, Bill. Sie flirten sich.1” Tom commented, just so Bill could hear. The dark haired boy looked over his shoulder at Tom, his eyes were wide and a red tint covered his cheeks

“Halt die Schnauze!2 ” He cried, with his head turned away from Aubrey. She took this to her advantage and jumped on him, almost reaching her glasses. Her arm stretched up as Bill began to fall to the ground, not that she was heavy; he wasn’t ready for the weight. The two fell to the ground, and the glasses skidded to the door. The three watched them stop, and Aubrey was relieved. She looked back at Bill and noticed how they landed, her legs outside his, and her arms pinning him down. A knock at the door broke the dream state she was,

“Hereingekommen, ist die Tür geöffnet!3” Tom yelled, fixing the hat on his head. The door opened and Aubrey held her breath as she prayed that her glasses were going to be safe.

“Hey! Is…Aubrey is that—” The sound of glass breaking stopped David mid-sentence. He picked up a foot and looked at the broken glasses under it, “Dammit!”

“No!” Aubrey cried, pushing herself off Bill. She looked at the smashed mess of glass and sighed hard, going to rub her eyes,

“You’d better not rub your eyes! It took me fifteen minutes to do your make-up!” Bill cried, sitting up slowly. Even though he said it with his usual playfulness, his body looked shaken. As if someone just took him off a drug.

“You did her make-up?” Mary asked, walking in after David.

“It was hilarious!” Tom spoke up, flopping on the bed, “‘Bill’, she cried, ‘Bill, your hurting me! It’s too thick! I don’t like it!’.”

“I do not sound like that!” She cried, still on her knees looking at the mess of her glasses. David and Mary looked down and raised their eyebrows simultaneously.

“No fucking way!” They both said at the same time, “You look…” Mary started,

“Hot! All you need now is a lip piercing and I’d date you.” David finished. Aubrey looked at David evilly,

“I didn’t do this for you to date me, and there’s no way in hell that—” Mary gasped and pulled her off the ground, holding her shoulders.

“Do you know what you just said?” She asked her friend with a growing grin.

“Yeah, I said, I didn’t do this for you to date me and there’s no way that...”

“No! You said there’s no way in hell! Aubrey you swore!” Mary paused to look over her shoulder at Bill, “I don’t know what you did, but this is her first time swearing, in her life!”

“Hell really isn’t a technical swear,” Tom muttered, “it’s more like a swear by default.”

“It doesn’t matter! 17 years of living and she has not said one!” David said, looking at her with wide eyes. Aubrey’s cheeks went flush again and she looked down at the carpet,

“It was an accident. I didn’t mean too.”

“My god, woman!” David cried, lifting her chin, “We are not chastising you, we are congratulating you.” Aubrey looked at David blushing hard, she turned away and took a deep breath. Mary looked at David with questioning eyes and then a devilish idea popped in her head,

“So where are we going?” Mary asked.

“A concert.” Aubrey answered, walking back to the mirror, “What am I going to do without my glasses?” She muttered quietly,

“You never needed those glasses, babe. You look even better without them.” Mary said, standing next to her. David nodded then looked at the other boys in the room,

“Hallo! I’m David, and that’s Mary. Thanks for inviting us and saving Aubrey. She probably would’ve never come home by herself.”

“You don’t need to thank them for saving me, David. You’re not my father!” Aubrey snapped at him, her golden eyes glaring. He giggled gently and put his hands up in defense,

“I’m sorry.”

“Hey, um, if we are going to a concert…what’s with the get-up?” Mary asked Bill. He blinked gently and looked at his feet and then at rest of his clothing. Tom covered his mouth, trying to keep is laughter in.

“What’s the matter with it?” Bill asked quietly, putting his hands on his hips.

“You look like a porcupine!” Mary said, giggling. Tom eyes hazel brown eyes opened wide and laughter shook his thin body.

“You are so funny,” The ‘porcupine’ retorted, “This is just the way I express myself!” He said flinging his hands out.

“So, this concert, who’s playing?” David asked innocently. Tom raised an eyebrow and looked at Bill,

“Yeah, Bill, who’s playing?” Aubrey asked softly. Her darkened eyes looked into Bills brown ones, and he tried to put a smile on his face,

“Tokio Hotel.”
