I'm Not a Princess

The party was blasting with energy as Avery stepped in grinning. Tonight, she promised herself, would be great. Amazing. Fabulous. It was the beginning of the year and this was where the school kids would be. The last big party until school...

"Avery!" Someone shrieked.

She turned around and found her cousin, Rachelle, bounding through and gave her a hug that nearly made her topple over. "Finally!" She cried. "I've been waiting forever!"

Avery laughd and let go. "You know I never arrive when parties start. They never get started for at least another hour. Do you know if Taylor's here yet?" She added as she glanced around.

Rachelle shrugged as she drank from a red plastic cup. "I'm not wearing my glasses or contacts, girl. I'm blind as a bat so don't ask me."

"Then how'd you know it was me?" Avery tried to point out.

"You're the only one who would ever own a purple hat, love," Rachelle pouted as she poked Avery's popular purple fedora.

"It's my trademark," Avery rolled her eyes. "I'll talk to you later. I want to find Taylor."

"Aw, such lovebirds," Rachelle cried as her cousin darted into the crowd.

It took Avery forever, looking for her boyfriend of two years. They'd planned to come together, but her work had gone late and she'd had to drive herself over. Surely he would have been there by now, Avery had supposed, and eventually went outside looking for him.

He wasn't far off, sitting on a pool chair.

"Taylor!" She cried, waving her arms to get his attention.

But when she looked closer, she saw he wasn't alone, but in the company of Danielle, the school's oh-so-popular slut. Making out....

"Oh, uh, Avery..." Taylor stood.

"Forget it, then," Avery managed in a shaking voice and shoved him into the pool right next to them. Her brain went numb and she trudged out of the party, tears trickling down.

Kind of the prologue. Might be a short story, I dunno. Just felt like it. Hehee.... Want it to be fan fiction. Anyone have ideas?
