Don't Get Close

Pull Me Back Together

Lucy sat alone on the floor in the middle of the bunk area. After falling when she tried to climb up to her bunk, she decided she should just stay on the floor.

She and Serena had told the guys about the situation after coming back from the doctor, and they had seemed surprised. Lucy knew the guys felt that it was their fault; it was there concert. But she knew it wasn't, it was her own for not listening to her boss and just staying backstage. Lucy had brought this on herself, which made it harder since she couldn't blame anyone else for what happened. It was because of a stupid decision on her part that she might never remember what made her into the person she was today.

A tear made its way down her cheek as she moved to lean against one of the bunks and sat Indian style. It wasn't that big of a deal, right? So what? They were just memories, nothing important. Serena could tell her all about her past and she would be good to go. Everything would be okay.

For a moment Lucy wondered where everyone was. She hadn't heard their voices for a while now. Did they get off and leave somewhere without her?

She heard footsteps approaching and quickly wiped away the remaining tears and stood up. When the person entered, she was dusting off her clothes and fixing her hair.

He cleared his throat, "You okay?"

Lucy looked at the floor in front of her, "Yeah. I'm fine."

James looked at her disbelievingly. She sounded plugged up, like she had a cold. Or more likely, she had been crying.

"You sure?"

"I said I was fine!" she yelled, looking at him for a brief moment before looking at the floor again. She put her arms around her waist, as if she was hugging herself for comfort.

James took a small step back. He'd never heard her yell before. He hadn't seen her angry or upset. This was all new to him.

"Alright...well...the guys and Serena all got off to go hang out at a park for a while before we hit the road again. They were wondering if you wanted to come too?"

Lucy couldn't bring herself to look at James. She had blown up at him for no reason when he was only trying to help her. He was trying to get her mind off of the situation for a while.

He studied Lucy carefully. He didn't want to say anything in fear of her yelling at him again. If he wanted to win her over beforeCorey someone else, having her mad at him would not be a good idea.

She sighed, "I-I don't know."

James stood still for a moment, "Well, if you do decide to join us, we'll be right outside the bus."

He started to walk away, which Lucy didn't want him to do.

"James wait!"

He stopped and turned around, "Yeah?"

Lucy hugged herself tighter, "Sorry."

James knew she was referring to yelling at him. He waved her off, "Don't worry about it. I probably would've done the same."

She smiled weakly. She doubted he would. He seemed too nice.

She sniffed and looked at James, "Any idea where Fallen went?"

"He's outside. Probably either going to the bathroom or avoiding the guys. Or both."

Lucy let out a small, forced laugh, "I'm sure that's exactly what he's up to."

James chuckled, "Me too."

The two stood there, staring around the room and each other for a few moments. James didn't know if he should leave or not, and Lucy was trying to decide whether she should just go through with it or not. When James shifted around and looked like he was about to walk away again, Lucy decided just to do it.

She walked up to James and wrapped her arms around his middle, burying her head in his chest. She sniffed again and tried to hold back more tears.

James was a little surprised, since he didn't expect Lucy to just come out and hug him. But she probably needed the comfort, so he just shrugged it off and wrapped him arms around her back, pulling her closer to him.

She laughed against his chest, "Sorry. I have no idea why I did that."

He shrugged, his arms still firmly around her, "It's fine."

A couple more tears snaked their way out of Lucy's eyes and onto James' shirt.

She let out a shaky breath, "I'm sorry, I honestly have no idea why I'm crying. I mean, it's not that big of a deal and I should just be glad I'll be able to remember at all and I should look on the bright side, not the bad. And-"

James' chest vibrated as he let out another chuckle. He ran a hand through Lucy's hair, "Cry if you want; let it all out. No one wants to see you cry, but you have a good reason. So don't worry about it."

She nodded and whispered a reply, "Alright."

Lucy pulled away and looked up at James. He didn't make a move to let go of her, so she moved her arms up to his shoulders to get a better look at him. She tilted her head to the side slighty and studied him with her watery eyes. She felt his hands move to around her waist as he leaned closer. Without taking her eyes off of him, she stood on her tip-toes and pulled herself up with the hands on his shoulders. They were so close she could feel his breath on her face...

"Fallen!"

James and Lucy barely had time to step away from each other before Fallen came running into the room and jumped on Lucy, tackling her to the floor. He hovered over her and licked her face. Just as she was about to push him away, he sat on her stomach and looked at her with his tongue hanging out of the side of his mouth.

Chris came running into the room, "Sorry guys! I opened the door to the bus and he just ran in-"

Lucy laughed as she tried to shove Fallen off, causing him to think she was playing and lick her face more.

She sighed, "No worries. But, would you mind getting this big oaf off me now?"

Chris and James laughed as the two came over to pry Fallen away from Lucy. He was having none of it and decided to lay on her instead so it would be harder to get him off.

"Fallen!" she cried, laughing and trying to push him off again, "Get off you dirty baboon!"

With one final shove, she managed to get him off. He ran over to James and jumped on him, earning a scratch behind the ears before taking off and running to the front of the bus again.

Chris sighed and started to follow Fallen, "Better go catch him. See you guys!"

James walked over to Lucy as Chris ran out of the room. He stuck his hand out and helped Lucy get up.

She stood in front of him silently, not sure what to say. Should she apologize? Should she make up an excuse like going to the bathroom to get away?Or maybe just jump on him and try to kiss him again.

James was going through the same dilemma. He had no idea what to do.

He rubbed his hand along the back of his neck, "Well this is awkward."

Lucy let out a nervous chuckle, "Just a bit."

"Maybe we should go outside and see where Fallen went?" James suggested.

She nodded, "Y-Yeah. That'd be fine."

Just as the two started to walk out, James grabbed Lucy's hand, causing her to turn around.

"Sorry. Maybe I shouldn't have-"

She shook her head and put her other hand over his mouth, "Don't be."

Lucy removed her hand from his mouth but left her remaining hand in his, "I didn't mind at all."

With that, she slid her hand out of his grip and began walking away. Her blue-grey eyes were watery and bloodshot, but James thought they were still as unique and intriguing as the first time he ever saw them. She turned to him and gave him a wink before leaving the bunks and making her way outside. James sighed and rubbed his hands over his face.

"...that went well."
