He slipped his hand gently around the front doorknob, twisting it slightly to see if it was unlocked. He prayed that it was.

She had been missing for days, and he couldn’t help but feel guilty for it. All of the “If only...” thoughts clouded his mind and he couldn’t concentrate on his work, which was the only positive thing going for him.

The door slid open, and he glided into the front hallway.
