If I Never See You Again

Chapter 10-What a rock

The rest of the week was sadly uneventful. Don made small talk with me, but even brushing past me would send him 50ft. away. The house was busy setting up for this masquerade party. I was scarred to soon be in a house filled with vampires judging me.
Friday morning, I ran into Blake while trying to explore the rest of my wing.
“I haven’t seen you in awhile.”
“Maybe you weren’t looking in all the right places.”
Blake reminded me a lot of Kerli. They both had that same mischievous spirit.
“So are you excited about the whole dance thing?” He leaned against the wall.
“More like terrified, I hope I don’t get bitten or something.”
“Don’t worry, everyone eats before they come.”
“Ha ha, what about you excited?”
“Nah, been there done that.”
“Your family does this a lot?”
“Only to celebrate Don’s new wives.”
“Wives?”
“Guess he didn’t mention his checkered past. Just like my perfect brother.”
“What checkered past?”
“Nope, I’ve said too much. He should be telling you this.”
He gave me a small smile,” You’ll see me around.”
I slunk against the wall. Checkered past? When did I become Nancy Drew?
Saturday morning, I woke up with an odd disturbing feeling.
“Good morning Kelsi.”
I clutched my chest,” Are out trying to put me in the damn hospital?”
Mrs.Catabelle smiled, “Of course those were not my intensions.”
Yeah right.
“What are you doing in my room?”
“That’s not a proper way to talk to someone who owns the house you’re staying in.”
I rolled my eyes. Just get to the point.
“I wanted to come and talk to you about tonight.” She got up from her seat at my bedside and wandered aimlessly about the room.
“I have my dress and everything want else is there?”
“No one knows about this deal we have with your father and I’d like to keep it this way.”
“So I’m supposed to lie when people ask how we met?”
“Exactly. You will say that you met him while out at a museum.”
I pretended to yawn,” Boring.”
“It doesn’t matter. You’ve been dating 12 months.”
“And what if I choose not to go along with this happy little plan?”
“Little girl you do not want to go against me.”
She tossed a small box at me,” Wear it tonight.”
She left shutting the door behind her.
“Bye,” I fumbled opening the box. It was a stunning eight carat engagement ring. I slipped it on my finger and let out a low whistle,” Look at this rock.”
