It's Not A Love Song

Work

The plane ride with Emma was fun, she’s a really funny and upfront kind of girl. I’d learned she takes no shit and from what I can tell is completely obsessed with Nick. She’d constantly find ways to bring him up, we’d talk about shoes and she’d just go ‘Nick wears shoes!’

The boys were busy talking on live and mobile and even had a reporter on the plane so we sat at the back out of the way for this short journey. “Hey Christa.” I said as we pulled our cases along behind us through the airport.

“Yes?” She answered with a smile.

“Are you watching the Honor Society pool party at the Mandalay bay thing?” I chuckled

She nodded, “Yep, you?”

I nodded also and sighed. Looking behind me I still couldn’t see Joe, we hadn’t spoken since we left each other this morning. Being so close and not being able to talk to him was infuriating but I was used to it, or I should be. I blamed my new want to be around him on my crush.

My mother had also dropped a new bomb on me. One of the crew who goes on stage and does things had hurt her ankle, so I was up and she told me that I’d get paid for it so for tonight I worked on the Jonas stage crew team. My job was simple, help out under the stage with removing drum sets and pianos from the middle of the stage and also, during Much Better when the boys did their flips I had to spot and kneel on the floor ready to catch either of them before the launch themselves down the stage stairs.

Simple enough.

The boys had a very busy schedule once we landed, everyone headed straight to the venue for sound check. I sat on the stage with the strings and Emma waiting for the boys to come out whilst on Twitter.

Juliharrr Sitting with Emma and le strings at sound check, today is boring.

I knew when the screaming occurred that the boys had came out, then suddenly it was louder with laughter mixed. Emma and the strings began to laugh too, in confusion I turned around and suddenly understood.

Joe Jonas stood on stage, fully decked out in an Elvis costume. I burst out into a sudden fit of silent laughter that I couldn’t control, I latched on to Emma to stop myself from falling off the edge of the stage. Tears rolled down my cheeks as I took in a deep breath to help continue my silent laughter.

I took a few deep breaths and calmed my self down as m phone began to buzz in my hand, I looked to the caller ID and saw Miley Cyrus.

I quickly rushed down underneath the stage to answer the phone call. “Hey melon.” I giggled.

“Hey, you guys are in Vegas tonight right?” She spoke quickly and rushed.

I nodded, “Yeah…”

“So am I! I’m so coming to see you!” She squeaked.

“Yes!” I cheered, “Awesome! So, how long will you be?” I asked her, picking a bit of my nail off.

She let out a breath down the phone, “Like… ten minutes?”

“Coolio, I’ll see you soon.”

She finished the conversation and I grinned, hanging out with Miley was always a fun time. I decided I should let the boys know what’s going on with Miley, they wouldn’t be finished sound check when she arrived. I jumped up the steps and wandered around to the side of the stage where they were stood talking to the audience.

I walked over to Joe speedily then whispered into his ear, “Miley is coming to the show tonight, she’ll be like ten minutes. Just a warning.”

“Hey there pretty lady, uh huh.” Joe said into his microphone, impersonating Elvis. I ended up laughing again, “What’s so funny?” He asked, in the same voice twitching his upper lip.

He held out the microphone for me, “I seriously cannot look at you without laughing.”

Joe grinned at me and took off his mirrored gold shades, he opened his arms and gave me a big hug. “Ah, my best.” He said into his microphone.

The crowd all let out an ‘aw’ and I chuckled, “You, you’re jumping up and down a lot.” Kevin said pointing to a girl in the crowd.

The crowd went quiet as she spoke. “Can you do the handshake!” She shouted to me and Joe.

I laughed and turned to Joe, we slapped our palms together and then the back of our hands twice, bumped fists and then elbows before finishing off with the sneeze and wipe. “Oh!”

I gave Joe one more hug before scurrying off the stage and back under it, “Oh, Julia, you’re here. Wonderful.” One of the crew men named Kyle said. “I can show you the ropes.”

For ten minutes he ran me through what I’d be doing on the night and when I would be doing it. It all seemed easy enough, he even wrote a list for me while the show was going on so I couldn’t miss anything. It was easy and I was getting paid, nothing wrong with that.

Miley did come but she stayed backstage so we went to her, we being Emma and I. Poor Emma was scared shitless to meet her, not only because she’s Nick’s ex-girlfriend but she is Miley Cyrus after all.

Nick was even gracious enough to invite her to dinner with us after the show, that kind of ticked Emma off because Joe and I were meant to double ‘date’ with her and Nick, but she put on a fake smile anyways and involved herself in the conversation as if nothing was wrong.

Miley had decided against performing ‘Before The Storm’ and decided to just watch. Emma also got a bit of a shock when she was told she’d be spending the concert with her in a private box, I’d be working under the stage.

During the show, under the stage, my so called ‘easy’ job wasn’t so easy. Everything was chaos as everyone ran about in the tiny space, putting things in order, taking things apart, working lights… all of it was insane. I looked to my list and pushed my sweaty fringe from my face, some of the writing I had crossed out with a red marker pen. Next thing to do on the list was protect boys during flips- Much Better.

I listened to the song that they were playing and almost peed, they were just finishing the second chorus. “Bollocks!” I shouted, running past the crew who pushed me towards the stairs.

I ran up them and onto the stage, I looked around with relief to see them both at the ends of the cat walk running towards the steps. I ran over to the steps and stood on them at the top bending forward slightly, Joe gave me a wave from the other side before jumping on the trampoline and flipping over Nick’s back. I held out my hands in front of me to steady him as he over shot it a bit, Joe grabbed onto my forearms then turned to do his jump over the microphone stand which he cleared.

Nick was next, he had to jump and do a front flip, this was the worst. He always either under shot it or over shot it, tonight was no difference. I watched with careful eyes as he jumped onto the trampoline bed and flip.

I winced as he over shot it and came flying towards me, I quickly stood up right and grabbed onto him so he didn’t fly over me. “Whoa!” I shouted as the weight of his body pushed me backwards and onto my knees.

I laughed as we lay in a heap on the floor, I could see Joe out the corner of my eye running over to us. I quickly picked Nick off my body then pulled me up onto his feet. I looked to Nick who was also laughing hysterically at the position we had just been in.

Nick and I bumped fists then I quickly ran off stage and back under it.

After that last job on stage I was free to go, so I called Emma and Miley so we could begin getting ready before the boys come off stage. We managed to find a spare dressing room to change in together that was equipped with a mirror.

I changed into a new outfit that Miley had picked out for me, a gold sequin skirt over a strapless black top with a black belt around my waist. I slipped my feet into some gold flats and decided to go with a different black lips shaped clutch, I’d bought it a while back but never used it.

Emma did my make up whilst Miley messed around curling my hair and sticking a flower in it, I didn’t see the point in doing my hair or make up but apparently if I didn’t it would ‘ruin the whole look’ so I let them do it for me instead.

By the time they both finished messing around with my face and hair the boys were ready and waiting. Awkwardly, the five of us climbed into one SUV and made our way to the Olive Garden.

Luckily for us when we got there no paparazzi or fans were there, it was just an empty parking lot and restaurant. We ordered drinks and food before we started conversation and it just so happened to be about the show.

“I swear every time you pick out a little girl from the audience every girl’s heart beats ten times faster.” Miley complimented Joe with a smile.

I half smiled too, “I know it warms my heart.” I blurted out without thinking. My mouth hung open as Joe smiled at me with his dazzling straight teeth, I blushed and looked down into my glass as I sucked some diet coke into my mouth.

Emma grinned at me from across the table before turning her attention back to Nick while I slumped forward in an attempt to keep from humiliating my self anymore. The two separate conversations turned into a group one that I didn’t understand, I picked the napkin off my lap and placed it on the table, sneakily grabbing my clutch from the floor.

“I’ll be right back, excuse me.” I said to everyone with a nervous smile.

I quickly walked through the restaurant and into the corridor of the bathrooms. I pulled out my phone and dialled the one number I knew I could rely on, my mom.

“Hey sweetie how’s it going?” She asked, obviously eating.

“Mom, Miley is flirting with Joe and I keep embarrassing myself and I cant even understand the conversation.” I whined, pouting as I began to pace.

She chuckled at me, “Well listen to the conversation honey. And if Miley is flirting with Joe she isn’t doing it on purpose, she’s a very flirty person you know that.”

I sighed and picked the flower clip from my hair, “Okay, thanks mom, I love you.”

“I love you too honey.”

I ended the call and dropped my phone back into my purse. I took a few deep breaths as I gazed at my reflection in the mirror, I straightened out my outfit then headed back to the table. Joe’s eyes followed me as I sat down which blocked him out of the conversation between Miley, Nick and Emma.

I smiled sheepishly at Joe as I sat back down. “I was worried about you, what’s up?”

I couldn’t help but be happy that he was worried for me, I’m a girl. “N-nothing, just needed to talk to mom.”

Joe’s eye brows furrowed, “You only ring your mom when you’re out if you need advice, what’s going on in that mind of yours?”

“Wouldn’t you like to know…” I mumbled looking away, but I couldn’t help but look back to him.

“Yeah…” He sighed, “I would.”
