We're Here to Take Your Hearts

FIVE

Clarissa woke up the following morning to Pete shaking her awake.

"Hey Clarissa, I have some laundry and I'm really busy could you do it for me?" He asked.

"Huh?" She groaned.

"Can you do my laundry?"

"Yeah, yeah sure." She mumbled.

"Okay it's in my room just around the floor." And he walked out.

Clarissa slept for another hour and woke up to Sarah whispering French.

"Clarissa, you awake?" Sarah asked.

"Yeah."

"Hey Spencer wants to take us to some record store today. I already asked William but Spence said you have to ask Pete."

"Ugh, Pete already left."

"Can you call him?"

"Uh, I don't have his number but I'm sure someone has to have it around here somewhere."

"Okay great. Get up!"

Clarissa got up and showered, she threw on some shorts and a shirt and walked downstairs. On the way down she ran into Brendon.

"Hey Clarissa." He smiled.

"Hi Brendon, do you have Pete's number?"

"Yeah, why?"

"Spencer wants to take me and Sarah to a record store but he says I have to ask Pete before he takes me but he already left. Do you think he would get mad if I called and asked?"

"I don't think he'll be mad. Here..." He rattled off the number and Clarissa stored it into her phone. She walked downstairs and dialed.

"Hello!" Pete answered a little frustrated.

"Um Pete? It's Clarissa."

"Yeah, what do you want?"

"Can I go to the record store with Spencer and Sarah?"

"Yeah, yeah. Did you wash my laundry?"

"Not yet."

"Can you do it! I need clothes hello!"

"Sorry I'll do it right now."

"Whatever, bye." And he hung up.

"Um bye, I guess." She said to no one on the other end. She walked up the stairs and walked into Pete's room.

It was a total mess. Clothes were everywhere and she didn't know what was clean or dirty, and she didn't want to call Pete and ask him.

"What are you doing in here?" Jon asked. Clarissa turned around.

"Pete asked me to do his laundry so I have to find his dirty clothes." She said.

"Why don't you call and ask him which ones are which?"

"Um, I already did but to ask him something else. He sounded busy." Yeah right, he was more along the lines of nearly snapping someones neck.

"Oh, well I think their the ones in the corner." He pointed.

"Okay thanks."

"Do you know how to work the washer and dryer?"

"Yeah, Will showed me when I came yesterday."

"Okay." Jon walked out the door into his room.

Clarissa grabbed an empty basket and put all the clothes in. She picked up the heavy basket and walked to the laundry room. She thanked god that it was upstairs.

She turned on the washer and put soap in. She put the clothes in and shut the lid. She walked out and closed the door. Spencer was leaning against the wall.

"Hey, did Pete say you can go?" Spencer asked.

"Yeah, when are we leaving?" She replied.

"Sarah wants to go now."

"Okay, I'll be right downstairs." Spencer turned and walked down the stairs.

She walked back into her room and grabbed two twenty's out of her drawer and walked downstairs.

"Finally!" Sarah exclaimed throwing her hands in the air.

"Let's go." Spencer laughed.

They walked out the front door to the blue Mercedes.

"We're taking Ryan's car because mine only fits two."

"SHOTGUN!" Clarissa screamed.

"NOT FAIR!"

"IS TO!"

"NU-HUH!"

"YEAH HUH!"

Clarissa got in the front and Sarah slumped in the back.

"Spencer, why does Ryan's car smell like vanilla?" Clarissa asked.

"Because he wears girl deodorant and acts like a princess." Spencer replied. The girls erupted into a fit of laughter.

LATER THAT DAY.

Clarissa, Sarah, and Spencer walked into the house laughing. Clarissa went right upstairs and put Pete's clothes in the dryer before retrieving to her room.

She sat on her bed with her drumsticks tapping random beats on the drum pad in front of her. Just then there was a knock on her door.

"Come in." She said, still tapping her sticks. Pete walked in and sat on her bed.

"Hey, did you have fun today?" He asked as kindly as anyone could be. Clarissa was dumbfounded.

"Um, yeah."

"Did you buy anything?" He asked.

"Yeah, I bought the new Paramore album." She replied, still tapping her sticks. Pete eyes her hands wrapped around the slender wood.

"Can you stop tapping?" He asked annoyed. Clarissa stopped tapping, but began bouncing her leg.

"Sorry." She said, still bouncing her leg.

"Yeah, well did you put my clothes in the dryer?" Now Pete was back to the frustrated, annoyed guy she heard on the phone.

"Yeah, their drying right now."

"Why aren't they done?"

"I got home late so I put them in like 10 minutes ago."

"Whatever." He got up off the bed and walked out, nearly slamming the door.

Clarissa's eyes started to water just a little. She wiped them with her jacket sleeve and grabbed her drumsticks. But, another knock on the door.

"Come in." She called. This time Spencer walked in.

"Hey, you left this in the car." He said holding out her phone. She dropped her sticks and took it.

"Thanks."

"No problem." He sat down on the bed where Pete was sitting, "You play drums?" He asked excitedly.

"Yeah, since I was four."

"Wow. Play something for me." He smiled. She started to tap a random beat that rang in her head. She played what she heard, even though no one else could hear the music she could create in her mind.
