Green Eyes

Johnny’s POV

Matt and I had spent the last few nights trying to figure out a way to get into the castle without getting caught. It pained me to be waiting so long – I needed to see Kayla. What if she was hurt? What if she was dead? I couldn’t handle that! Even if she wasn’t mine I craved her presence so badly it was making me hurt.

I felt tears begin to well in my eyes at the thought of her lying motionless on the floor. That was it. We couldn’t wait any longer.

Matt wasn’t holding up too well either. His eyes remained an angry red and he appeared distant, only talking to me about how we were going to get them out of there. I could tell he cared for her too. He saw her as a sister, and felt protective of her.

But not only was Kayla in there, but also three of our best friends. I only hope the two of us will be enough to rescue them.

I looked up and noticed Matt was grinning at me. I raised my eyebrows in confusion and his grin grew wider.

I’ve found a way in. There’s a window at the back that I can set fire to and we can climb through.

God, sometimes I was jealous of Matt’s power. Not that mine wasn’t good either.

I grinned back and followed him around the back, following his pointed finger to the window there.

Are you sure you’re gonna be able to light it? It looks pretty tough

Matt just scoffed and directed his eyes at the window, staring intently at it. About a second later, it was ablaze. Matt smirked and blew on it, demolishing the fire. He turned to look at me briefly before beginning to climb the wall, gracefully working his way through it. For a big man, he really could be graceful.

I saw a thumbs up from the other side of the window and I began to climb carefully, gripping the stone with my fingers. I worked my way up to the window and slowly slid myself through, dropping to the floor beside Matt.

I sniffed the air for traces of Kayla, immediately catching her human scent. I searched harder until I found the others, before turning to Matt and silently telling him where they were.

Matt turned and looked at me. I think we should stick together. One of us won’t be enough to fight off the others.

I nodded and we began walking quietly, hiding behind objects wherever we could. I stopped when I noticed footsteps coming our way, and I pulled Matt around a corner.

Matt smirked at me. As nice as you are, I don’t swing that way.

I cursed him and silently told him to listen. I watched as his eyes registered the footsteps, and he grabbed me, pulling me further away.

I listened again. There were about 5 of them, all heading this way. They would be here soon.

We held our breath – not that we needed it – as the footsteps came closer. A vampire appeared in front of us, and we remained still, not making a sound. Before he noticed us I used my power to make him walk the other way; he was stupid enough to believe it. Matt chuckled and I sent a warning glance at him, before repeating what I had done to the other four vampires. I knew it wouldn’t be long before they realised they were walking the wrong way, so I grabbed Matt and pulled him into another corridor. We began to walk, occasionally sniffing the air for traces of Kayla’s scent.

Suddenly, I felt someone wrap their arm around my wrist tightly. I turned around to see a vampire, who gasped when he saw me. Uh oh. Looks like someone recognised us.

Just as he was about to call for help, Matt gripped him around the neck, crushing him to death with his hands. God, sometimes that man’s power amazed me. No other vampire I knew could ever be able to do that, and I was the oldest around.

Matt smirked in satisfaction before turning to me once more, urging me on. We continued walking forwards, stopping to hide behind something when we heard people coming closer.

We got to a set of stairs and went down. Kayla’s scent was becoming stronger and I noticed Matt’s eyes were beginning to regain colour. I began to get excited. But what state would she be in? At least she was alive.

Matt set fire to the stairs to stop anyone following us. One of the only things that could kill vampires was fire.

We picked up our pace as her scent got stronger, increasing it to almost a run.

I turned around the corner, and looked at the cell in front of me. My heart stopped. There she was, lying motionless, bruises covering her body and dried blood covering her neck. I felt anger pulse through me as I looked at her, noticing Matt doing the same. Whoever did this to her was going to pay.

My heart began to beat faster as I took a step towards her, stopping in front of the cell. I tried to bend it with my hands but it wouldn’t budge. I turned to Matt. ‘It’s unbendable.’

Matt sighed and focused his gaze on the cell door, setting it ablaze. He stopped and blew on it, watching as it fell to the floor in ashes. I ran forward towards Kayla, trying to stop the tears that sprang into my eyes at the sight of her. I hadn’t seen her for months. It was torture. And now – to see her like this, I just couldn’t stop the tears.

I gently picked her up, noticing how light her body felt in my arms. Her eyes fluttered open drowsily before closing again. ‘Please don’t hurt me.’ She mumbled.

I kissed her head and snuggled her closer. ‘Kayla, its Johnny. We’re here to rescue you.’

Kayla smiled softly before opening her eyes in shock. ‘Kaylee – we need to get Kaylee. I promised I wouldn’t leave her behind.’

Matt stroked her forehead with his hand, trying to sooth her. ‘Sweetheart, we’ll find Kaylee.’

Matt turned to me.

Who the hell’s Kaylee?

I shrugged, causing Kayla to open her eyes briefly. ‘Shhh, Kayla. We’ll get everyone out of here.’

Kayla smiled and snuggled into my chest, before yelping in pain. I watched at tears began to roll down her face, breaking my heart. ‘It hurts’ she mumbled.

Matt looked at her with pained eyes before turning to me, silently telling me that we needed to keep moving.

We kept walking forwards, ignoring the racket that was going on as we walked past the stairs that Matt had set on fire. I turned to Matt. ‘We need to keep moving. It won’t be too long until the fire goes out and they get down here.’

We quickened our pace to a run and I felt Kayla grip onto me in fear. We ran down a set of stairs and into what looked like a dungeon. It was creeping me out.

We continued walking until we came to a cell containing Brian. He was pacing around and when he saw us his eyes lit up. ‘About time.’ He growled.

Matt set fire to the door and we watched as Brian limped out. He walked straight over to Kayla and stroked her cheek, looking down at her. ‘Is she ok?’

I smiled grimly at him. ‘She will be but we have to get her out of here as soon as possible.’

Brian nodded and began leading us to the others. We stopped outside another cell door and Matt set it on fire. We looked inside and there was Jimmy, restrained by chains, blood dripping from where the chains were attached. He looked at us briefly and in that look I noticed that his usual ‘Jimmy light’ was gone. It was – weird.

Matt set fire to his chains and Jimmy shrieked in pain. ‘Oww son of a..’

Matt clamped his hand over Jimmy’s mouth and blew the fire out. He let go and Jimmy sighed in relief. ‘You have no idea how hard I’ve been trying to get these bloody things off me. Then all you have to do is look at them and…’

He stopped when he noticed Kayla lying in my arms. He ran over to her and gazed down at her, unashamed of the tears falling from his face. ‘Kayla bear? You ok?’

At the sound of her name, Kayla opened her eyes slowly, registering Jimmy in front of her. ‘I’m ok’ she muttered. I chuckled. I had to give her one thing – she was definitely not weak.

Jimmy continued staring at her. ‘She seems really pale – THEY BIT HER!’

Matt had to clamp his hands over Jimmy’s mouth again to stop the stream of curse words coming out.

We’ll deal with this later. Don’t frighten her.

Jimmy sighed and nodded angrily. I guess we were all going to work to get back at whoever had done this.

Zacky’s POV

‘THEY BIT HER!’

My head shot up in shock. That was Jimmy! They must have gotten Kayla!

My heart began to beat faster as I thought of her and I forced myself to stand up. We were going to get out of this. And once we did, I would never leave her again. I wasn’t strong enough to bear that.

I sniffed the air, noticing her scent was becoming stronger. I could hear footsteps coming my way and I began to stagger my way to the front of the cell, ignoring the pain that shot through my body. I was a vampire! I wasn’t supposed to feel pain!

As soon as she came into my sight, my heart stopped. She looked so empty, so dead. I couldn’t stand to see her like that! Not my Kayla!

I growled as I noticed she was paler than before. They must have bitten her again.

I watched as her eyes fluttered open, as if sensing my presence. She looked up and my heart broke at the pained look in her beautiful blue eyes. ‘Zacky?’

I smiled at her and nodded, immediately feeling stronger. Matt set fire to my cell and blew it out, and I ran as fast as I could towards her. Then it hit me. She was snuggled into Johnny’s arms. That bastard! I told him to stay away from her!

I growled and stepped towards Johnny threateningly, but softened when I noticed the fearful look in Kayla’s eyes. Johnny gulped. I felt Brian touch my arms and look at me.

Not now. He’s just trying to help. You know he cares about her. We all do.

I sighed. I walked forwards once again, gently taking Kayla into my arms. Johnny looked upset but I didn’t care – this to me felt perfect. Except that we were in so much danger.

Kayla snuggled into me and looked into my eyes, smiling. I smiled back, before looking away. ‘We need to get going.’

Kayla’s eyes widened and she looked up at me. ‘We need to get Kaylee! I promised!’

I raised my eyebrows.

Kaylee?

The guys all shrugged except Jimmy.

Maybe she’s an imaginary friend!

‘JIMMY!’ we all yelled at once. Kayla looked at me in confusion.

I smiled at her and kissed her nose, causing a blush to form on her cheeks. God, she smelled so good.

The others grumbled and I noticed Johnny was looking away. ‘Let’s get going.’

We began to run the way we had come, me holding Kayla closely so she wouldn’t get hurt. The pain I had before had completely disappeared once I had seen her. All that mattered to me now was that she got out of this safely.

We stopped when we came to a set of stairs which were on fire. I chuckled. I had to give it to him – Matt always thought things through.

I noticed there was a commotion going on on top of the stairs. We all glanced at each other briefly, before nodding and turning back to the stairs. Matt blew on them and we all ran forwards, jumping up onto the next floor.

There were 6 of us and about 30 of them. They all looked extremely angry, except one, who I recognised from the nights I had rescued Kayla, who was smiling.

He walked forwards. ‘Well well well what do we have here? Lover boy’s finally come to rescue his princess!’

I growled. He smirked at me, walking forwards slightly. ‘And I must say, her blood tasted so good.

I growled again, ready to lunge at him but Brian stopped me. Jimmy turned to face me.

Give her to me. I can get her out of here. You guys fight.

I sighed and nodded. As quick as lightening, Kayla was out of my arms and into Jimmy’s. I watched as Jimmy disappeared and reappeared behind everybody, behind a wall, Kayla in his arms. He winked at us, while the others looked around in confusion. This gave us the chance to attack.

I ran forward, grabbing one of the vampires around the neck and fighting them to the ground. Around me I could see the others in battles of their own, and Matt had already destroyed at least 5 of them.

I grabbed mine and threw him to the ground, ripping him to pieces with my hands, smiling when I heard his shrieks of pain. I looked around to see Johnny being held to the ground by a vampire, so I ran over and tackled him, ripping him to pieces.

Others began to run away, but Matt set fire to one of the doors while they were running, burning them to ashes. The rest stopped fighting us and ran quickly out of the corridor in fright. I looked around for the one that had spoken but he was nowhere to see. I began to run forwards and chase after them but Matt’s voice sounded in my head.

Let them go. We’ll get out quicker this way.

I sighed and nodded and we began to run towards where Kayla and Jimmy were hiding. We grabbed them and began to bring them towards the door so we could escape.

Kayla grabbed my arm and I turned to face her. ‘Wait! We have to get Kaylee!’

Brian shook his head and looked at her. ‘There’s no time. We have to get out of here.’

Kayla shook her head and I watched as tears filled her eyes. God, she was so vulnerable. ‘But I promised her. We made a pact…’

I sighed. I couldn’t stand to see her cry.

‘KAYLA!’

I turned around to see a black haired girl running our way, dressed in rags and bruises covering her face.

Kayla grinned. ‘Kaylee! We have to go! Quick! You’re coming with us.’

She frowned and turned to look at us one by one, her eyes stopping on Matt. She stood there, as if in a trance, staring at Matt. I looked up to see him looking at her the same way. Oh god. ‘Not now guys. We all have to get out of here!’

They broke from their trance and turned to look at me. I began to run through the door, making sure everyone was following behind me. Behind me I saw Matt grab Kaylee’s arm protectively and hold her to him, before running after me. It was about time Matt found someone. His ‘I’m too tough for love’ attitude was beginning to get annoying.

We got to both cars and decided to split up.

‘I’ll go with Kayla’ Me, Johnny, Brian and Jimmy all said at once. I frowned at them. Kayla smiled.

‘Thanks guys I feel so loved!’

I had to chuckle. ‘Matt, Kayla, Kaylee and I will go in this car. The rest can go in Johnny’s.’

The others grumbled while Matt punched his fist in the air. ‘Yesss! I get the ladies!’

Both Kaylee and Kayla chuckled while the others frowned and headed towards their car, Jimmy reluctantly giving Kayla to me. I smiled. ‘Kayla gets the front seat ‘cause she’s the most special.’

The others grumbled while Kayla laughed and I set her down in the front seat, kissing her head softly before closing the door. We all hopped in and I began to drive away. Matt and Kaylee were in the back, staring at each other intently, talking quietly. I sighed. It wouldn’t be too much longer before they started making out.

I averted my gaze to Kayla and smiled when I saw her sleeping peacefully. I softly stroked her cheek with my hand and she nuzzled into it.

This was it now. We were safe. She was safe. And I was never going to leave her again.
