Green Eyes

03

The vampire clutched me tightly, his long fingernails ripping into my skin. He let out a manic chuckle, his red eyes glazing over me in both interest and lust. ‘Why, you’ve grown up nicely. It’s a wonder Vercro doesn’t use you for other reasons. But I suppose I always could...’

A shudder rippled through my body, and I vainly tried to pull myself away from him. I was really beginning to wish I had stayed with Liam. A kiss with him was way better than this.

The vampire picked me up and slammed me against the brick wall, and I winced in pain. ‘Now now, that’s not very nice is it?’ he whispered, leaning in close to my ear. His breath tickled my ear and sent shivers down my spine, though not in a good way. I tried to punch him but he pinned my arms down tightly against my body, smirking at my failed attempt to beat him.

The tallest vampire walked up beside us and smiled down at me sinisterly. ‘Layton, don’t be rough. Vercro was very specific when he said what he wanted her for.’

Layton chuckled but didn’t release his grip on my arms. ‘Now you’re gonna come with me quickly and quietly. We wouldn’t want anything to happen to that family of yours now would we?’ He whispered sadistically, and I shook my head. No, I didn’t want anything to happen to my parents. After my brother’s death, they were all I had. I couldn’t live without them.

He smiled and started leading me towards the car. Suddenly, I heard a scream. But it wasn’t a human scream, no, this scream was enough to make my whole body quake where I stood. Layton turned around and gasping, he dropped my arm. I turned around to where he was looking. My eyes caught on a shadowy figure, in a violent fight with the tall vampire. The tall vampire was calling for the others to help, but they just backed away, horrified expressions on their face. Whatever this creature was, he was stronger than them.

As I tried to examine this creature, it looked up. My eyes met with a pair of bright green ones, and I gasped in realisation. Those eyes. I’d seen them before. It was him.

Kayla, run!

I was immediately startled by the voice that appeared in my head, but something told me I could trust it. Holding my breath, I bolted for the nearest wall, but I could hear the sounds of the vampires following me. My back hit a wall and I looked around, shaking when I found I was trapped. Layton was coming closer, determination swirling with anger in his red orbs, his fangs bared as he sprinted towards me at an inhuman speed. Just as he was about to reach me, four more creatures dropped out of nowhere, landing gracefully on the concrete in front of me. Without even a glance back, they began fighting off the remaining vampires.

I watched in fright as two of the vampires were killed, and the grace of it amazed me. No, I wasn’t sadistic, but these creatures made it look like an art. I wanted to run home but I was transfixed watching them fight. My eyes continually fell upon the creature with the green eyes, waiting desperately for it to catch my gaze so I could look into them to ensure it was really him. I knew it hadn’t been an animal that night! It was real! And here it was, saving my life once more. But what did it want with me? Why did it keep helping me?

My thoughts were interrupted as another inhuman scream pierced the air. I turned abruptly to see one of the creatures fighting the vampires had fallen to the ground, blood dripping from a cut on his head. The other 4 stopped fighting and ran to help, giving the vampires time to reach their car for escape. Layton turned to look at me before he hopped in the drivers seat. ‘Later Princess’ he said, chuckling.

I backed myself further into the wall, hugging myself as if it would protect me. As the car drove past, I turned to look at the five creatures that had probably just saved my life. They were still huddled over the bleeding body on the floor, and kept looking at each other intently, as if they were silently talking. The largest one nodded, and picking up the body, he took a giant leap onto the roof above my head and disappeared. Another one immediately followed and my attention went to the last two, who seemed to be having a quiet debate, occasionally looking over at me. I shuddered and tried to think calming thoughts , which I found incredibly difficult because of my hazardous situation. The only thing that came to my mind was the fact that I had finally found proof that my brother hadn’t been killed by an animal. My doubts about it being a dream had disappeared, but yet, I still hadn’t figured out what it was that had killed Kole. Don’t worry Koley. I’ll figure it out.

I heard a sigh and another of the creatures left, leaving the one with the green eyes staring intently at me. Bravely, I took a step towards him. Our eyes met, and I quickly searched his for any emotions, and in his green orbs I found anger, compassion and love. With the way he was examining me, I could only assume he was doing the same.

‘Kayla, you need to get away from here. But make sure you don’t tell anyone what you have seen here tonight. It could result in you becoming in even more danger than you are currently in.’

His voice was low and husky, and it sent shivers down my spine. It was unlike any other sound I had heard before, instead so unique that I longed to hear more.

I nodded, never averting my eyes from his brilliant green ones. ‘But how am I in danger?’

He sighed. ‘That is for another time.’ He turned to leave but quickly turned back, as if it was hard for him to walk away from me. ‘You’ll be safe now. Hurry home.’

But as much as I wanted to, a part of me couldn’t leave him. It was like I was drawn to him, and I felt the need to run my hands over his face, although it was covered by the darkness. I took another step towards him, surprised when he did the same. We continued slowly walking towards each other, eyes never leaving each others gaze. We stopped when we were about a metre apart, the darkness still covering his face. I reached my hand out to touch his cheek, and gasped when it met with something cold and rock hard. ‘What are you?’ I whispered, searching his eyes for an answer. He just stared back, as if contemplating how to answer.

Suddenly, a voice was heard. ‘VENGEANCE!’

The creature looked towards the voice, and he took a step backwards. He took a leap and landed on the roof, before turning his gaze to look sincerely at me.

Goodbye Kayla.

Then he disappeared, and I was left in the darkness, feeling exhausted, but finally safe.

I wasn't too happy with this one. I had a bit of a writers block and couldn't figure out how to put it all.

So you finally get to know who the person behind the green eyes was! Well, that is, if you hadn't already guessed.

I hope you enjoyed it and thanks heaps to all those who subscribed and commented!
