The angel experiment

Chapter 7: Ready?

I awoke up the next morning early. I sat up to see Madaline and Tonny still fast asleep. I

knew that they were most likely starving.

I left the cave in search of any food. Miles away I spotted an apple tree with ripe fruit

growing from the ash colored branches. I sped past other obstacles in front of me until I

reached my destination. I immediately began gathering apples, grateful for any food.

In the midst of this, something in my peripheral vision caught my eye. It looked almost

like a person.

I darted my head to the left, dropping the apples as I did so. “Landry?” I called stupidly.

But I didn’t see anyone. Of course it wasn’t him. What was I thinking? He ever wouldn’t come

back...

I let that moment slip and recollected the now bruised apples. When I returned to the

cave Madaline and Tonny were both awake. Tonny let out a sigh of relief when she saw me

enter the cave.

I pulled my orange hair into a pony tail and let my side bang rest across the left half of

my freckle covered forehead. “Hey what's wrong-”

“You’re back!” Tonny explained. “We thought that you left us here!”

“No, I wouldn’t do that.” I reassured. “I just left to get some food.” I dropped the sea

green apples across the dull cave floor. “Eat up.”

I picked up one and began to eat it as well. A sweet taste filled my mouth and I then

realized how hungry I was. I knew a pile of fruit wasn’t going to fill us up but it was better

than nothing.

They perked up and Tonny grabbed one for her and one for Madaline.

A cool breeze traveled into the cave, sending chills down my arms. My shorts revealed

my legs to also have goosebumps spread across them. I searched the cave for my salmon-

pink colored sweat shirt. I found it in a corner and proceeded to put it on.

Then I noticed Tonny. A blank expression was across her face. The apple rolled out of

her hand and stopped just a few inches away from her motionless body.

Something was wrong.

“Tonny?”

No response.

Again. “Tonny? What’s wrong?”

I glanced over to Madaline. She had her knees to her chest and her eyes closed. Her

fingers were to her temples and she seemed to be concentrating hard.

What was happening? I read her mind in search for an answer.

But instead of hearing her thoughts, I saw whatever it was she was thinking. A

flashback? Maybe. I made myself relax and closed my eyes, watching the picture presented

before me.
