Green Day Kids and Co: The Day After Tomorrow

Search and Rescue

Billie Joe Armstrong sighed as he drove through the blizzard, following the bus that was taking the N.O.A.A employees south across the border into Mexico.
He was itching with anticipation in waiting for news on Joey, his missing son. Joey was in New York and he was driving in the other direction, useless.
He looked in his rear mirror to check on Jakob who was listening to music and staring out of the window. Aside Billie was Adrienne, his beautiful wife, sleeping with her head against the window.

Billie looked in his rear mirror again; this time to check Mike was still behind him. Mike waved to him from the car behind. Billie waved back then concentrated on his driving.

The silence was unbearable if Joey was there he and Jakob would be discussing bands and arguing over their favourite songs or something like that. This kind of silence was exactly what Billie used to wish for when driving Jake and Joey to school, now all he wanted to hear was their arguing again.
Jakob pulled his ear phones out and leaned forward in his seat, "Hey Dad, they're gonna make it, don't worry," he assured his father putting an arm around the seat and his Dad; Billie patted his sons arm and smiled.
In the car behind Mike didn't have anyone to reassure him of his daughter's safety, all he could do was turn on his music and pray, something he hardly ever did, just goes to show, people call on God when they really need him most.

NATIONAL OCEANIC ATMOSPHERIC ADMINISTRATION

"Tom, hey, Tom wake up!" Clarke Takoda shook Tom awake.
"What is wrong?" Tom Gomez said groggily.
"I've just received some satellite images from the Space Station you better take a look!" Clark led him to the computer he had been working on and Tom gulped.
"How big is this thing?" Tom asked staring at the screen.
"The vortex is 50 miles in diameter and growing, the two cells over Europe and Asia are even bigger."
"Good God!" Tom breathed.
"This one is going to hit New York inside an hour!"

SOMEWHERE ON THE WAY TO NEW YORK

Elisa McAllister was getting tired, the only thing she could to was to stay focused on the fact that her sister was in New York and probably dying.
She and Tre hadn't spoken much since... .the incident with Jack.
She feared for Brian who would more than likely do the intelligent thing of heading back to the car and getting the hell away.
Suddenly Elisa's rope tightened and she couldn't walk anymore; she turned and found Tre on the ground.
"Shit! Tre! Tre! Are you alright?" He wasn't responding, he's exhausted, I knew I shouldn't have let him come, Elisa thought.
Elisa didn't know what else to do except pull him the rest of the way.

NEW YORK PUBLIC LIBRARY

Joey burst into the room with two wicker chairs; he punched the seats through and used a pencil to punch holes in them. He was going to use the chairs as shoes so he wouldn't sink in the snow.
"Dude what are you doing?" Jensen asked,
"There's gotta be medicine on that ship!" Joey said loudly.
"But I thought you said it was too dangerous to go out side!" The librarian snapped.
"I know I did... "Joey trailed off.
"Dude where did you get those chairs?" Frankito asked.
"Why?" Joey replied with wonder.
"Because I'm going with you!" He replied.
"Me too... " Jake said.
"Yeah count me in!" Jensen stood up.
Ramona stood by her brother, "Frankie you better be careful, then again if you don't come back I won't complain," she joked.
"Love you too sis, and stop calling me Frankie!" Frankito snapped.
"I have to come!" Cadence said standing up.
"No you're not sis, it's too dangerous!" Jensen snapped pushing Cadence into her seat again..
"Hey you're gonna need me!" Cadence said standing up again.
"Why?" Frankito asked.
"Because that's a Russian oil tanker and I'm the only one that can read Russian, the only subject I was into at school!" Cadence announced.
"Yeah that's right," Tori said urging them to let her go.
"Hey Jake, I thought you would have known that, guess your not as big a nerd as I thought!" Frankito said with a laugh.
"Okay let's go!" Joey said.

They all waded through the blizzard to the tanker as soon as they got inside Joey spoke again, "Okay we don't have long so we have to hurry!"
They followed signs for the storage room on the ship.
When they found the door it was locked.
"The window, we can climb out and along to get into the room!" Jake suggested and they did.
The medicine cabinet was open.
"God it's all in Russian!" Jensen said.
"Move!" Cadence said and scanned the shelves.
"Got it!" she said pulling out a small bottle.
"What? How do you know?" Joey asked.
"Ah... because it says penicillin on the bottle!" Cadence said as-a-matter-of-factly.
"Oh yeah!" Joey said smiling.
As they left Frankito stopped them, "Hey wait a minute this is the food hall, we should find some food while we're here," he suggested.
"Look Kito we don't have time!" Joey said walking on but Jensen stopped him.
"Look Joey none of us are gonna survive without food for much longer, okay, including Roxy."
Joey nodded, "Okay," he said and they rushed into the room.
Cadence found a blow up rafter and suggested they stay.
While gathering food Jake paused, he'd heard a growl.
"Guys listen," he snapped. They all stopped what they were doing and listened they heard the growls again. Jensen approached the door to check it out, he regretted it when a wolf jumped out of the corridor and grabbed Jensen by the ankle.
"Ahhhhh... help!" He yelled. Everyone rushed forward and started beating the wolf to let go, when it did they pulled Jensen into the storage room and Cadence locked the door.
"What are we going to do now, we're trapped?" Frankito asked.

NATIONAL OCEANIC ATMOSPHERIC ADMINISTRATION

Clarke was still monitoring the computer; he saw the vortex, the land hurricane move.
"Tom! It should be over New York by now!" he said and gulped.

RUSSIAN SHIP IN NEW YORK

Joey thought for a second, "Guys the storm is over us now, I think we're in the eye of it. Okay guys I'll go out back the way we came in through the window and lure the wolves away. You guys lock the door when they leave, okay?" They all nodded.
"Good luck!" Frankito said patting Joey on the shoulder.
Joey patted his best friend back, a manly hug.
Joey ran to the window and again climbed out and edged his away back to the other side. When he climbed into the hall he switched on his torch and tip toed to the entrance of the cafeteria hall, where the wolves scampered.
CRACK!
Joey stepped on glass from the broken window, he panicked and ran, the wolves snarling and growling ran behind him.
He heard the others bang the door closes behind the wolves.
Joey ran out to the steps and down them to a lower level then ran inside a long hall with another door leading back out to another part of the ship. He ran as fast as he could to the open doorway and when he reached it closes it behind him in the wolves face. The wolf that was leading the pack banged into the window crying out when blood splattered the little round window on the door. Joey took a deep breath and with one last glance at the wolves he pulled himself up on the ship deck back where the cafeteria was. He banged on the door making the others jump.
"It's me open up, OPEN UP!" he yelled. Frankito opened the door.
"We have to get out of here now, Kito get the supplies, and Cadence, Jake, help me with this thing!" he demanded grabbing the inflatable raft.

SOMEWHERE ON THE ROAD TO NEW YORK

Elisa used her sticks to pull her and Tre along. She heard the flapping of a flag and looked up, she smiled she had reached New York. Her smile disappeared when the wind stopped blowing and the flag fell lifeless on its pole.
She dropped her sticks and grabbed the rope pulling Tre beside her. There was the roof of some restaurant she knew it was a restaurant because there were steam chimneys sticking up from the snow. She kit the head off one of them then lifted Tre up and dropping him down the hole. She pulled him and the equipment into the kitchen area and began to light the fires, closing the door as well.

NEW YORK LIBRARY

Joey, Frankito, Jake and Cadence pulled hard on the raft which held the food and Jensen. Joey stopped running when he noticed the blizzard had stopped and ice covered the tops of the buildings, things were freezing in seconds! Just like Elisa had said. He began running with the others again, "Hurry, Let's go. Pull guys, pull!" he yelled. They ran as fast as they could toward the library, glass was breaking. They weren't going to make it if the kept pulling the rafter so Joey grabbed the medicine and ordered Jake and Cadence to take it to Roxy, Joey and Frankito grabbed Jensen arms and began to carry him bag. They ran as fast as they could, slip and sliding as they went, the walls were freezing up around them.
"We're almost there come on!" Joey yelled to Jensen who had begun to get tired. <br ?. "Jake, close the door!" He called out as he and Jensen crosses the threshold into the office, where the raging fire began to go out.
"The fire!" Tori yelled.
"Don't let it go out!" Joey yelled.
"More books!" Joey advised. Skippy was barking at the door, "Come on Skip come away from the door!" Bill yelled.
Everyone was piling books onto the fire as ice crept across the floor!

RESTAURANT KITCHEN SOMEWHERE IN NEW YORK

The ice had stopped creeping; she had lit every cooker in the place and had built the tent. Tre was inside sleeping, he roused.
"Elisa?" he called out.
"I'm here... " she replied whilst shining as torch on a cook book studying at how frozen it was.
"How long have I been out of it?" Tre asked appearing beside her.
"Couple of hours," Elisa replied turning around, then, "How do you feel?"
"Okay I guess, what happened?" Tre added.
"Well," she began wincing, "we had to get inside in kind of a hurry so I sort of... pushed you in!" she said making a sorry face.
Tre nodded and rolled his eyes, "Yeah I should be used to you pushing me around by now!" he joked referring to their past when Elisa was always bossing the band around concerning her sister.
"Good to have you back... "she said with a wry smile.
She pulled on her coat, Tre squinted, "Where are you going?" he asked.
Elisa turned around adjusting her hood, "The eye of the storm has passed and we're 40 miles from Manhattan."
"Shouldn't we wait another day?" Tre suggested worriedly.
Elisa turned round and looked at him seriously, "The kids may not have one more day!" she advised and Tre nodded in agreement.
They got packed up and walked some more coming to a stop by something large.
Tre's feet hit something hard in the ground. People... dead people, he saddened.
Elisa set up tent by the large building or something, to shade them from the wind.
Inside they drank mildly warm tea.
Tre asked a question that had been annoying him for the passed few days.
"What's going to happen to us, civilization I mean?"
"Man kind survived the last Ice Age we're perfectly capable of surviving this one."
She explained,"It all depends on whether or not we can learn from our mistakes, I sure as hell would like a chance to learn from mine," Elisa said sadly looking down at her hands.
"Elisa, you did everything you could!" Tre said.
"I was thinking about Roxy... "she corrected.
"Yeah I know what you mean... " Tre agreed thinking about his life as a drummer and then his family.
"Elisa I'm scared for them!" Tre stammered.
"Hey we made them a promise we'll keep it!" she assured.

NATIONAL OCEANIC ATMOSPHERIC ADMINISTRATION

Clarke Takoda and Tom Gomez had moved the administration down south, they set up in Mexico and had been hearing reports of the storm dissipating over North America, that as a good sign.
Clarke called on the Space Station for confirmation.
"Parker this is Houston do you read?"
Parker head of space division replied, "Roger mission control, go ahead."
"We are getting scattered reports that the storm is dissipating over North America can you confirm?" Clarke asked.
"Affirmative," Parker replied happily, "It's finally clearing. We're over Europe right now; we can see land mass for the first time in days!"
Clarke gave an enormous sigh of relief; maybe Elisa was going to make it!

SOMEWHERE 'IN' NEW YORK - (FINALLY)

Elisa and Tre awoke to the sound of a calm breeze that slowly blew the tent. Elisa got up and poked her head outside and gaped and what she saw. Closely followed by Tre she stepped out and saw what the large object was that was protecting them from the raging wind. A large ship was sticking out of the snow as though it were sinking.
Beside them opposite the ship was the Statue of Liberty up to her knees in snow.
They sky was clear and there was an orange light of the sun peaking through the clouds. Elisa and Tre smiled and threw their arms around each other happy that things were coming to an end. They packed up and began walking, the were only two miles from the library and when they reached the point where the reader said they were at it they paused.
The library was covered in snow; the only thing that could be seen was the windows.
"They're alive... .I know it!" Elisa said running toward the building.
Tre ran after her and they jumped through the window and slid down the snowy slope where the snow had fallen into the main book room.
The halls were frozen walls covered in whiteness.
"Roxy?" Elisa yelled.
"Mona... Kito!" Tre yelled.
"Roxy... .Joey!"
They came to a door that had a soft glow behind it and they hauled it open. There was a raging fire and people lying all about the place. A girl roused, it wasn't Ramona or Roxy.
"Who's that?" Tori said aloud. Frankito roused from his sleep and looked over at the two people shining torches.
"My Dad... ." He breathed and ran to his father throwing his arms around him.
Roxy was awake and well and when she saw her sister she smiled, "I knew you'd come, sis!"
Ramona ran to Tre and threw her arms around him, "Daddy! What are you doing here?"
"I came to get you guys, with Elisa!"
Elisa felt a tear run down her face and ran to Roxy, "Roxy, thank God you're alive!"
"Yeah sorry I couldn't run over to you it's just I have a bad leg!"
"What happened?" Elisa demanded to know.
"I cut it and it got infected but its okay I got a shot of penicillin and now I'm fine!"
Joey approached, "Elisa... is my Dad... ."
"Your Dad's fine, where's Stella?
"I'm here... " Stella said approaching.
"Your okay, good, I made a promise to your Dad to bring you home," Elisa said.
"So he's okay the?"
"He sure is, he's in Mexico, which is where we're going right now!"
"So this is your sister huh Roxy?" Stella asked and Roxy nodded.
"Stella Artois!" Tre shouted out his nick name for Stella and she turned, "Uncle Tre!"
the hugged and then he came to hug Roxy.
"Hey Treyster!" Roxy said hugging him back.
Ramona approached Jensen who was watching the reunion with tearful wyes.
"Are you sad about your brother?" Ramona asked.
Jensen feeling stupid with himself didn't answer her instead he snapped, "You feeling sad about your boy friend?"
"He's not my Boyfriend any more he lied to me so I don't want to know him. Hey, how old are you again?"
"Nineteen!" Jensen replied.
"Cool so am I!" Ramona said and pulled him into a deep kiss; Jensen surprised at first but then kissed her back.

MEXICAN EMBASSY

Gomez ran to the VP's office.
"Mr President I just received a radio message from Elisa McAllister she made it to New York and he says there are survivors!"
"Thank-you Tom...that's... that's great news."
The VP gave an order that Tom himself go in a helicopter to get Elisa and the survivors home, he then accompanied his assistant to make a television broadcast with the news.

"The past few weeks have left us with a profound sense of humility in the face of nature's destructive power. For years we operated under the belief that we could continue consuming our planets natural resources without consequence... .we were wrong... I was wrong. The fact that my first address to you comes from a consulate on foreign soil is a testament to our changed reality. Not only Americans, but people all around the globe are now guests in the nations we once called 'The Third World' in our time of need they have taken us in and sheltered us and I am deeply grateful for their hospitality. We mourn the loss of a leader whose order to evacuate saved the lives of many. For days now, we've despaired the fate of the people who are trapped in the North... . "

"Billie!" Adrienne squealed from across the tent, Billie and Mike who were deep in conversation stood up and came over to the TV, "The president is giving news!" she said. They watched intently.
"... .Today, there is cause for hope. Only a few hours ago, I received word that a small group of people survived in New York City, against all odds and in the face of tremendous adversity. I've ordered an immediate search and rescue mission to bring them home and look for more survivors!"
"It's them Billie, It's them!" Adrienne cried out happily to her husband hugging him as Billie smiled at Mike who was just as happy. He too threw his arms around Billie and the three of then engaged in a group hug.

NEW YORK

Gomez had the broadcast on a small TV in the helicopter as he searched the New York clearing for Elisa, the first passenger on to be welcomed onto his helicopter.
He saw the library and a bunch of people standing on top. Elisa was right there were survivors and not just her lot, but many other citizens on the roofs of buildings waving down the helicopters. He looked sideways at Brian Wells who smiled back, "They're okay then?" Brian asked.
Gomez laughed, "Elisa's never gonna let you live this one down Brian!" he then laughed hysterically.
"Hey it wasn't my fault I got left behind!"
When he landed, he saw Elisa and Tre, the kids... .but no Jack. Oh no!Gomez jumped down and ran toward Elisa, "Elisa! It's good to see you!"
"Come on let's get you guys on board!"
Everyone smiled when they saw Gomez. And when Tre and Elisa saw Brian they ran to him, "God where did you go?" Tre yelled.
"Navigator indeed!" Elisa said sarcastically.
"Hey that was not my fault!" Brian said defensively.
They all got on board and Tre sat by the window at the far side, Ramona sat next to him and rested her head on his shoulder, Jensen took a seat by Ramona and held her hand and Cadence sat by him grabbing his arm.

Elisa sat by Brian opposite Tre and Gomez took his seat up front with the pilot. Roxy sat by Elisa and Joey by her, Roxy rested her head on his shoulder and Joey rested his head on her head, only this time she knew and she didn't mind, he smiled to himself. Frankito sat by Joey with Stella and Jake and Tori took seat beside the. Bill, Skippy and the librarian were aside Cadence.
They took two more survivors from another area and set of south. As they flew over New York City Joey Frankito noticed all the survivors on the roofs of the buildings.
"Would you look at that?" Frankito said. Every one turned to look and smiled at the people getting rescued, Roxy sighed and rested her head back on Joey's shoulder, and he took up his position on her head as before.
Tre caught Frankito's eye and smiled at him and Stella winking as he did. Frankito glanced at Joey and Joey smiled back, Frankito winked.
"Hey Frankie, thank God you didn't die... you owe me ten bucks from two weeks ago!"
Everyone laughed and Frankito made an exasperated growl, "STOP CALLING ME FRANKIE!"

MEXICO

The helicopters landed and the gang jumped out. Joey was the first to see them... his Mom and Dad.
"DAD! MOM!" he yelled running across the warm terrain to his parents.
Adrienne turned to see Joey running toward her, "Joey!" she gasped and grabbed him as he threw his arms around her.
"Joey? Joey!" Billie gasped as well.
Jakob appeared and jumped on his brother knocking him to the ground, "DUDE, WHAT THE HELL TOOK YOU SO GOD DAMD LONG?" He screamed and Billie swiped his head for swearing.
Stella and Mike embraced and he was hugging her for a full ten minutes before approaching Elisa who was quietly talking to Roxy.
"Thank-you," he said.
Elisa rose from her seat on the crates, "That's okay Mike!"
"I knew you would do it!" he added before rushing back to Stella.
Tre approached Billie and Mike, "Hey! You'll never guess what?"
"What?" Mike and Billie said together as Elisa approached and Adrienne came to stand with her.
"Well, Mona's going out with that Jensen dude over there. Kito's dating Stella, Mike. Joey's dating Roxy, Billie and that little shit Jake wherever he went is dating that Tori chick! This fucking storm surge has been a fuckin' matchmaking service!" he laughed and every one burst out laughing. Jakob was still wrestling Joey, and Billie and Adrienne pulled Elisa to the side.
"Thank you so much!" Adie said grabbing Elisa around the waist. Adie wiped away her tears and joined the others.

Billie remained and without words he grabbed Elisa and hugged her tight. Elisa didn't need words to understand she knew he was deadly thankful.
As Billie walked away she grabbed his hand, "Hey, peace out!" she said smiling and he nodded.
Gomez was next to arrive from the tent, "Elisa... we've received word from Hedland... Alan and David made it they're okay!"
Elisa smiled then frowned, "And what of Professor Rawson?"
Gomez frowned and shook his head, "He was too old Elisa he didn't make it!"
"Look, we have a team looking for them!"
Brian and Natalie emerged, "I heard about what happened to Jack, our thoughts are with him!" She said and Elisa nodded.
Jensen approached Joey, "Hey dude thanks for everything... my little brother he's okay!"
"That's fucking awesome!" Joey replied.
Joey smiled, he had his family back he'd got the girl he'd always dreamed of having and when all this ice and snow melted, he was going to Harvard, well maybe.
Roxy came by his side, "So we survived," she remarked.
"That we did!" He replied taking her hands.
"I never got to thank you for saving my leg," she cracked laughing.
Joey smiled, "Anytime," he replied.
"So Mr Armstrong how would you like me to thank you?" she asked putting her arms around his neck.
"Well Miss McAllister, so far you're right," he joked and she smiled again. They closed in for a kiss.

SPACE

"Parker, dude, check this out!" Owen breathed to his space partner.
"What?" Parker replied.
"Have you ever seen the air so clear?"
Parker smiled, no, he hadn't... but now... he had.

The End.
