Do I Dream Again

Kyra stood in Sadie’s apartment, laughing as she watched Sadie smooth out her hair for the fifth time in as many minutes. “Sadie, you look great,” Kyra assured her. “And, besides, Jon’s already in love with you. It’s not like you need to impress him or anything.”

“How stupid am I?” Sadie asked, and Kyra looked at her curiously. “Why did I ask him to go to lunch? God, why am I so nervous? I mean, it shouldn’t be that big of a deal. It’s freaking lunch!” she muttered, more to herself than Kyra.

“It’s because you’re still in love with him,” Kyra told her. “But, don’t be nervous. You two have went out on dates before.”

“I know,” Sadie sighed, fixing her hair once again. “But, that was before all the drama and lies happened between us,” she reminded her.

“Stop worrying,” Kyra ordered just as the doorbell rang. “That must be Jon. Let me go answer the door,” she smiled, making her way out to the living room, opening the door in time to see Jonathan nervously shifting from foot to foot. “Are you nervous, too?” she asked him.

“Is it that obvious?” he asked with a small smile.

“I’ll tell you the same thing I told Sadie. You’ve both went out before. This isn’t anything new,” she told him. “So, what do you have planned for lunch?” she asked him, waiting on Sadie to come out from her bedroom, where she was sure she was fixing her already perfect hair and makeup.

“Traffic Jam and Snug,” Jonathan replied.

“Isn’t that where you took her out for your guys’ first date?” Kyra inquired, thinking back to when she and Sadie had just begun working for the Red Wings. It seemed so long ago, but in reality, it had been less than a year ago.

“I knew it was a bad idea to take her back there,” Jonathan groaned.

“Jon,” Kyra began, putting a hand on his arm. “It’s perfect,” she assured him. “I think it’s a great idea. I remember right after that date, she come over to my place and told me that you two were together,” she recalled. “She was so excited about it, but then she was scared that I was going to think of her differently since she was dating a player, like I was going to be upset with her or something,” she said, beginning to laugh. “I remember telling her that I was jealous of her, not upset.”

Jonathan started laughing at her confession just as Sadie walked out into the living room. Jon looked over at her, and he couldn’t help but smile at her. “Hey, Sadie,” he said to her.

“Hey, Jon,” she replied. “You ready to go?” she asked.

Jonathan nodded his head. “Of course,” he said, holding his arm out to let her go first. “After you,” he smiled as Kyra said goodbye to both of them, telling them not to be nervous. “Bye, Kyra,” Jon called after her, walking Sadie down towards his car.

As they entered the restaurant, Sadie couldn’t help but smile, remembering the first time they had gone there. “It seems like so long ago,” she muttered.

“What?” Jon asked, not catching what she had said, as he pulled out his chair, sitting across from her.

“I was just saying it seems like so long ago,” she repeated. “You know, since we first come here, since we first started dating. We’ve gone through so much since then. A lot of lies and a lot of good times,” she explained.

“Sadie,” Jonathan began, and Sadie looked up at him. “I still love you, and that’s never going to change. I know we’ve both made a lot of mistakes, but I just want to get past them and start all over.” Sadie was quiet for a moment, and Jonathan began to get worried that she didn’t feel the same way. He started to try to take the words back when Sadie spoke.

“Jon,” she began, and Jonathan stared at her, urging her to continue. “You have to promise me that I’m the only one,” she told him. “I can’t find out that there’s anyone on the side again. I couldn’t take it again. My heart couldn’t take it,” she clarified.

“Sadie, you’re my only one,” he assured her. “You’re always going to be the only one. And, I need you to promise me that you’re going to tell me everything, even if you don’t want to. You can’t keep secrets like before.”

“I can do that,” Sadie said with a smile. “I promise I won’t keep things from you anymore,” she added as she leaned over the table, meeting his lips halfway. She slowly pulled away, a smile on her face. “God, I’ve missed doing that,” she whispered.

“Me, too,” Jonathan told her.

“So, I know I asked you to lunch,” Sadie began. “But, what do you say we get out of here?” she asked suggestively.

“I say what are we waiting on?” Jonathan replied, scooting his chair back and holding his hand out for her as they quickly exited the restaurant and went to his car as fast as possible, driving back towards his place.

“Where were you last night?” Kyra asked Sadie as Sadie walked into Kyra’s apartment the following day, seeing Henrik sitting at the table playing a board game with Sophia. She smiled at the sight before turning back towards Kyra, wondering the best way to answer her question.

“I was with Jon,” Sadie replied.

“All night?” Kyra inquired. “I tried calling you like ten times, and you didn’t answer,” she said, looking over at Sophia and Henrik as Sophia yelled out in excitement.

“Yeah, all night,” Sadie admitted, and Kyra’s eyes went wide.

“Oh my God,” Kyra said slowly. She quickly pulled her best friend into the kitchen, wanting to be able to talk to her without Sophia overhearing. “You two are back together?” she asked excitedly, and Sadie nodded her head, unable to keep the smile off of her face. “And, last night, you two were together?” she asked suggestively, hoping Sadie would understand what she meant.

“Oh yeah,” Sadie said, her smile growing wider. “All night.”

“No wonder you didn’t pick up your phone,” Kyra muttered, walking back out into the living room, just in time to see Henrik lose the game and Sophia celebrate by jumping up and down.

“Mommy!” Sophia exclaimed. “I won!”

“Congratulations,” Kyra smiled at her daughter before looking up at Henrik.

“I think she cheated,” Henrik joked.

“I did not!” Sophia said, turning around towards Henrik. “I’m just that good,” she told him as the doorbell rang, and Kyra went to go answer it. On the other side was one of Sophia’s classmates, Gina, and her mother, Martha, there to pick Sophia up for a play date.

“Thanks, Martha,” Kyra said as Sophia hopped over to Gina, and the two girls began chatting excitedly. “Bye, Sophia,” she called out.

“Bye, Mommy,” Sophia replied without even turning around to look at Kyra.

“So, I want details,” Kyra said, turning around to Sadie as soon as the door shut behind Martha, Gina, and Sophia.

“Details?” Henrik questioned.

“Sadie and Jon slept together last night,” Kyra quickly informed him before turning around towards Sadie once again. “Now, tell me exactly what happened. I want all the details.”

“Kyra, you’ve had sex before. You know how it works,” Sadie told her sarcastically, earning a laugh from Henrik and a glare from Kyra. “Seriously, Kyra, there’s not much to tell. We went out for lunch, and he told me he still loves me. And, I don’t know. It just happened.”

“You’re not regretting it or anything, are you?” Kyra inquired.

“Are you kidding me?” Sadie asked. “Of course not. It was perfect. He was perfect. And, I think we’re going to make it work this time. We both made mistakes before, but we’re not going to do that this time.”

“I’m happy for you,” Kyra told her sincerely.

“Thanks,” Sadie smiled. “I’ve actually got to get going, though. I’ve got an interview I need to do. But, I saw you called a million times last night, and I thought I’d come by and prove to you I’m alive,” Sadie laughed. “You two have fun with your alone time,” she added with a smirk.

“Bye, Sadie,” Kyra said as Sadie made her way over to the door.

“Bye, guys,” Sadie called.

“Bye,” Henrik said before turning towards Kyra. “So, what are we going to do now?” he asked her. “I mean, it’s not too often we have the place to ourselves. Usually, Sophia’s around.”

“Hmmm…” Kyra hummed. “I can think of a thing or two,” she smiled, taking a step towards him, pulling on his shirt so he closed the gap between them, and pressed her lips to his. She pushed him backwards, not breaking their connection, until they had made their way back to her bedroom.

She sat back on the bed, pulling Henrik down with her. She laid down, and Henrik resituated himself, making sure he was not crushing her with his body weight. As Kyra began unbuttoning his dress shirt, he looked down into her eyes. “Kyra, are you sure?” he asked, knowing that her encounters with Lance had turned her off of sex.

“Yes,” Kyra nodded her head, a smile on her face at how considerate Henrik was being. “Hank, I’m ready,” she assured him.

Henrik nodded his head, kissing her deeply as he slowly pulled off her clothes.
