Can't Do It

I dropped my fork. "W-what?" He sighed. "Look, love, I would be more that ecstatic to have a baby with you, but face it, it probably won't happen." I felt the tears start to fall down my face. "Oh shit." He ran to my side, holding me to his chest. "Babe, that's not what I meant. I want to raise a child with you, and I don't care if it's ours or not. Just that I'd be raising it with you." I pulled back slightly, looking him in the eyes. "R-really?" I stuttered from the sobs. He nodded, kissing me gently.

"The results are back my dear." The doctor said entering the room. I squeezed Jimmy's hand in fright. What if I couldn't have a kid? What if I was pregnant?" The doctor wasn't smiling. "Mrs. Sullivan, I'm afraid I have some rather disappointing news. It turns out you can't support children." I froze. "W-what do you mean?" He sighed. "It means you have a weak uterus, and the chance of you having a baby is...1 out of 100..." I didn't make eye contact with either of the men in the room with me. Jimmy, or the doctor. "I-I can't have children..."
