Waking Up in Vegas

New Information

I pushed the chair back at the dinning room table and stormed out. It’s the same old story all over again. My dad brought up the subject of Mike and I and actually compared us both. I already hated the bastard and did not want to talk about him. He then continues to mention his accomplishments. Fuming, I got into my car and sped off.

Arriving at the club, I handed the valet the keys and walked in without much thought. I stormed through the throngs of people and sat down at the bar. With one glance, Sean knew just what I needed.

Sean has been one of my confidants for the past few years. It all began when I poured my heart after consuming too much alcohol. He also looks out for me every time that happens. Ever since then, we’ve been close and he knows me more than most of my friends.

“That bad?” he yelled over the music, handing me a shot.

“Are you surprised?” I replied, gladly taking it.

He merely shook his head and attended to the other customers. I continued to consume the alcohol until I began to feel tipsy. I stopped and looked around, now only realizing that the guy a few seats over has been staring at me for a while.

“What?” I lashed.

A few heads turned and Sean walked over. “What’s wrong?”

“Guy’s staring,” I responded, nodding my head to the guy’s direction.

He rolled his eyes and glanced at the guy. “It’s not like no one’s ever stared at you before Alex.”

“I don’t want him staring at me,” I retorted.

The man chuckled as he approached. “Sorry. You just seem very familiar.”

“So?” I said, my voice cold.

“I’m trying to remember from where,” he explained, scrutinizing me.

“Well, stop. You’re making me feel uncomfortable,” I demanded.

His eyes lit up and I knew that he remembered. “You’re the Vegas girl!”

Hearing this I accidentally spewed my drink on him. I coughed as I inarticulately mumbled my apology. “At least you apologized this time,” he remarked, wiping the wet spots on his suit.

“What did you call me?” I asked, regaining my composure.

“You’re the girl from Vegas. The one from the bar? I sort of hit on you and you did…” he looked at me for a second and made a face. “…that. Then, you began to laugh.”

“Well I’m sorry,” I apologized, handing him more napkins. “Do you remember what happened next?”

“Yeah. You told me that you had a boyfriend,” he said, looking up at me.

“And…?” I said, urging him to continue.

“I didn’t believe you, so I told you to prove it,” he replied.

“Will you please just tell me what happened and not make me ask another question every time you answer the last?” I growled, frustrated.

He chuckled. “That’s what I liked about you.” Not hearing what I wanted to hear, I glared.

He raised his hands in submission and continued, “You made your way over to a guy on the other end and sat on his lap. You looked at me and pulled him in for a kiss. He seemed surprised but he never pulled away so I left to look for someone else. The last thing I saw was you grinding on him on the dance floor and shortly afterwards, both of you left.”

"Can you describe this guy?" I asked, eager to find out what happened that night.

"Um," he pondered. "Blond dude and I think either blue or green eyes."

“You’re lying,” I responded, refusing to believe it.

Sean tried to hide his smile. “What are you laughing at?”

“Nothing,” he shrugged. “I like what I heard, even though it doesn’t sound like you.”

“Because it’s not,” I stated.

“I am not a liar,” he said. “You asked and there’s your answer.”

We sat in silence for a while and I couldn’t help but laugh. They both looked at me, confused.

“Did I really?” I asked.

“Yes.” He smiled. “You certainly did. Where is he anyhow?”

“He wasn’t my boyfriend,” I admitted, shrugging.

“I figured,” he stated. “Does that mean you’ll be going home with me tonight?”

I couldn’t help but laugh. “You wish,” I answered, leaving him at the bar.
