Maybe Nice Guys Don't Always Finish Last

Mira was confidently sitting in first with one more rider to go. The only rider that could knock her down to second was Blake ‘Bilko’ Williams. She wasn’t too worried about him. No one has been able to touch her score of 93.95. She was convinced that she had won. Now she was just thinking about what bar to go to.

“Get ready for this, Ice Box. You might learn something new,” Blake said to her on his way past for his final run.

She didn’t have time to respond. Even before she turned around, he was off on the course taking his second run. As she watched his run, Mira got nervous for the first time during the whole contest. He was flawless. He made his 360s look effortless. He had so many back flip combinations that Mira had lost count midway through the run. When his run was over, he pulled up next to Mira. She couldn’t find anything to say. His run was so amazing. Out of the corner of her eye she watched as he took his helmet off and his curly brown hair bounced out of his it.

“God, he’s so adorable,” Mira thought as they waited for his score.

“Learn anything, Ice Box?” he asked with a smirk.

“Nope… not really,” she said causally while looking at her nails.

Blake just shook his head and waited for his score. Mira was starting to get impatient. Why were the judges taking so long? Even though she expected Bilko to beat her, she was still surprised when his score came in. He got a 94 even. She couldn’t believe it. She only lost by five hundredths of a point… to him.

“Who’s whipping out the big bucks now?” he said as he got off his bike. “You did amazing though,” he said going over to her and giving her a friendly huge.

Mira couldn’t hate him now. He was being way too sweet to her. “Thanks. But you were more amazing,” she said as they parted and Bilko smiled.

Blake was instantly attacked by his crew and fellow riders. Mira smiled seeing Blake caught off guard by their sneak attack. When she turned around, her friends Kaya and Tally were there. She had to laugh at them. They made signs for her.

“You guys never seize to amaze me,” Mira said going to her friends and hugging them both.

“Well, we caught wind that you made finals. We couldn’t miss it,” Tally said as they parted.

“You guys need to come out with me tonight. Bilko and I had a bet that the loser would buy drinks. So I’m buying drinks. You two might as well come,” Mira said as she was lifted off the ground. She yelled from surprise. The person grabbed her from behind so she couldn’t tell who it was.

“Guess what we’re doing tonight, Ice Box.” She couldn’t help but smile.

“What are we doing, Bilko?” she asked grabbing onto his arms fast as he lifted her higher.

“We’re going to party!” he said as he started spinning her in circles.

He spun her around a couple more times before putting her down. She had to hold onto him for a few seconds. All the spinning made her dizzy. Once she got her bearings back, Blake slid her silver medal around her neck.

“Where exactly are we partying at?” she asked as she put her hands on her hips. She may have gotten second, but her attitude was still there.

“Rumors sounds pretty good.”

“I’ve never been there,” She said unsure of it now.

“You’ll love it. I go there all the time,” he said as he put his arm around her neck and started leading her towards their bikes.

They still had pictures and interviews to do. The whole time, Mira couldn’t help but notice that Blake had his arm around her. This led to her having a huge smile on her face for every picture. After the post-contest activates were done, Mira and Blake rode their bikes side by side back to Mira’s trailer.

“Well, Ice Box, I’m looking forward to later,” he said once they stopped.

“I’m sure you are,” she said as she got off her bike.

“So I’ll meet you and all your girly friends at Rumors at 9?” Blake asked as he kicked his bike to start.

“I guess. I am the loser,” Mira said acting all bummed out… She wasn’t doing a very good job of it.

“You’re not a loser. You’re my winner.” he said with another wink and wheelied his way off.

Mira watched as he disappeared in the distance. She smiled at the thought of tonight. She was going to have fun.
