Wax Candles

White Lace and Promises

“Heavens! You scared the crap out of me!” I gasped as Huyu sat on top of my bed as I crawled under the covers. “Why do you insist on surprising me like that?”

He laughed, loud enough to wake up the other boys, which would result in blood shed for two reasons. One; they were vampires and always hungry for blood; second Yu probably would tear Huyu apart just because he woke him from his sleep.

“Well let’s start with the fact that you are too easy to scare,” Huyu chuckled, grinning wide. “And yet you don’t seem to mind the fact that I frighten you.” He paused, blinking at me for a moment before speaking again. “Do you know where the next stop is?”

I threw him a look. “This isn’t a relaxing weekend retreat, Huyu; we’re dealing with vampires here.” Huyu knew what the boys were; I made sure to tell him everything that happened after I left the house. At first he was furious at Yu for tossing me around, but once I explained that they were vampires, Huyu grew pale and continued to listen, but now in silence.

“Vampirates, dear, we’re dealing with vampirates,” Huyu corrected me, that smile still plastered to his face. I grimaced; like that made me feel any better about being able to evade the other boys.

“Well have you got a plan? Because just talking about how much crap we’re in usually doesn’t help at all.” I frowned, rolling over on my side so that I faced the dresser, now looking away from Huyu. “Can’t you think of a way to get us out of here?”

Huyu snickered, curling his arms around my waist; I cringed slightly. “I’m glad you said '“us',” he chuckled. “But yes I do have a plan.” He didn’t speak after that, as if he thought I could read his mind or something.

“You know telling me might be a good thing,” I muttered, irritation in my voice.

“Oh right, sorry,” Huyu replied, removing his arms from around me and getting up from the bed; he stood in the middle of the small room with that grin on his face. The doom I had once felt from it was drawing even closer, I could feel it. “How about the next stop we hide out until I can contact Massu to come and get us out of there? It’s the easiest thing we can do at this point.”

I was quiet for a moment, sitting up to look at him. What other choice did we have? There was no way I was going to spend yet another day with these kidnapping, crime drowned, vampires. “So where do you think we will stop next?”

Huyu shrugged. “You would have a better idea than I would.”

I groaned, lying back down. This wasn’t going as planned. “Well it can’t be too far away from where we already were, seeing as these boys don’t seem to like to travel too far from their last stop.” That was true, the boys of the Luminor liked to stay close it seemed.

We talked for another twenty minutes until I was finally able to convince Huyu that we were going to be close enough that it would only take Massu a few days to get to us, if he was even willing to. Yet I hadn’t reminded Huyu about the factor of getting the word to Massu. Well, that was only a slight detail, right?

Soon we bid each other good night and Huyu slid under the bed, thinking that the other boys on board wouldn’t notice him if he was down there. I found it utterly ridiculous, but I wasn’t about to allow him to sleep with me; only the heavens would know what trouble the two of us would get into.

Once the Dawn’s rosy fingers stretched across the morning sky, I woke at the knock on the bedroom door, startling both Huyu and I. The poor boy under the bed sat up with a start, smashing his skull against the underside of the bed, suppressing a howl of anger and pain. I winced at the sound of him crashing into the bed, and once the bedroom door opened, I tried to look as tired and clueless as possible. A boy with blonde hair stepped inside, and I was shocked to see that it was Shin.

“Shin,” I stuttered, practically butchering his name. “What are you doing up so early?”

The German boy looked at me with a questioning raise of an eyebrow before replying, “It is already eleven o’ clock in the Morgen; everyone but you is awake.” He was dressed in a white, long sleeved shirt and a simple pair of black pants, and I couldn’t help but wonder how he could stand wearing such clothes in this weather. As I fumbled on the correct words to say, I realized how tired Shin looked, how underneath his eyes light purple bruises shown clear against his pale skin. Finally I found the mind to reply to the seemingly tired looking boy.

“Oh, really? I suppose I should get up as well, yes?” I asked, swinging my feet over the edge of the bed and getting down as gracefully as I could.

“I figured once you got dressed I could show you how to work like a real crew Mitglied here on the Luminor.” Shin smiled. I tried to decode that grin, but all I could conclude was that he meant what he said: I was going to work.

You want me to…work?” I gasped, surprised at the fact that he actually thought I was going to go through with this.

He simply smiled again.

“Shin! Please!” I begged, grasping my hands together in a pleading manner. “I’m a woman; I’m not made to work. I was put here on this earth to be…to be…”

“Beautiful?” the blonde suggested.

I blushed, wringing my hands together at the flattering statement. “Well, I suppose you could put it that way. So, yes, I was put here to be beautiful and get married and have children. Aren’t all women put here for that?”

“Not necessarily,” Shin said. “There are other reasons as well. Like, was ist mit…helping others in their lives.”

“How so?”

He was silent for a moment, as if trying to avoid the topic, but he soon spoke up, answering me. “What if you could help someone find their meaning in Leben? What if they feel like they don’t have any meaning except to suck the Leben from another?”

Leaning against the dresser, I listened to Shin as he carefully chose his words, trying not to sound too obvious on what he was actually asking me to do. “So…you want me to help this 'someone' find what their meaning in what is?”

“Leben, life.”

“Right then; life. So you want me to help someone find their meaning in life?” I concluded, raising an eyebrow to this suggestion.

Shin nodded, a slight smile laced his lips. “Exactly my thoughts.”

“Is there any chance that this 'someone' is 'you' ?” I asked, a smile slipping onto my lips as well.

The stunning boy drew closer to me, his scent had an overwhelming, cool smell to it. “There is a possibility.” He lifted my chin up towards his face with a cold finger. “Maybe there is more to it than that too.” Leaning forward, he kissed my forehead with icy lips against my warm skin. It was like a shock after jumping in a freezing lake; chilling and unreal.

Once he drew away, he turned for the bedroom door. “Will you meet me on the deck?”

I couldn’t speak, so I simply nodded, a grin splitting from ear to ear.

Shin smiled and exited through the door and down the hallway.

I sighed happily, but I swear I heard a monster like growl from under my bed. Another creature clearly wasn’t pleased.
