When the Words Mean Nothing I'll Still Be Singing

Remember when...

From the morning on I didn’t stop smiling once. Not even when some bitches made fun of me. I had actually told them off like I used to when Oli and I were still friends. It was strange how Toms simple act of kindness had such a large positive effect on me. I hadn’t felt so alive in a very long time.

Lunch couldn’t come soon enough. As soon as the bell rang I was first out the door. I quickly made my way to my locker where –surprisingly- Tom was already waiting for me. He smiled and slightly waved when he saw me coming towards him.

“Hay Tom” I greeted happily as I began to open my locker.

“How was class?” he asked, leaning on the locker beside mine.

“Fine, I told Alexis McCoy off,” I smiled when he laughed, “you?”

“Boring” he shrugged as I closed my locker, “same as usual.”

I slightly pouted, “Aw, well that’s no good”

He laughed again as we started to walk to the cafeteria. His laugh brought slight butterflies to my stomach. It was very strange. I’d always thought Tom was cute, but I’d never had feelings for him. I guess a lot of things were changing today.

Tom and I sat at my usual table in the far left corner of the cafeteria. I usually ate alone and no one would bother me. Except when Oliver was feeling particularly like a douche bag. It was nice to have someone to eat with for once, to say the least. Tom and I were having a good laugh and conversation as we ate our lunches.

“Its been too long sense we’ve done this.” Tom said suddenly.

I nodded my head in agreement; “I really miss hanging out with you and Oli.”

“Me too, Those were some good times,” he laughed, “remember when our mums took us to the beach, and we were making a giant sand castle, and Oli stuck your hands down his pants and he stuck his hands down yours?”

I choked on my water in laughter, “how could I forget! Our mums threw a shit fit! We were 5… I believe.”

We both started laughing uncontrollably at the memory. Soon after the bell, signalling it was time to get back to class, rang and Tom and I parted ways once more. But not before promising to meet at recess.

Tom

I couldn’t help but grin slightly as I walked up to my older brother and his group of followers. I really enjoyed hanging out with Hunter and catching up with her, even if I was only doing it so Oli would let me chill with him and his friends and get wasted.

I still wasn’t really sure why Oli wanted me to get close to Hunter then ditch her. But whatever floats his boat I guess. He was always an odd duck anyways. Hanging out with Oli meant free booze and easily getting laid. Both of which sounded good to me. And the fact that Hunter was so easy to get along with just made my job way easier. The only downfall to all this was I was finding myself attracted to Hunter all over again.

I had had the biggest crush on her all throughout our child hood. But she only seemed to have eyes for Oli. That seemed to have changed though. And I wasn’t sure if I was happy about it or not.

She was very confusing, but breathtakingly beautiful. I didn’t remember how devastating she was when she smiled, or how her ocean blue eyes twinkled when she laughed. Which, I guess, made sense seeing as she never did either of which, thanks to Oli.

“Hay Tom” Oli greeted as I walked up to the group, “everything going smooth?”

I nodded, “just as planned.”

He smiled proudly at me as I started to make my way to class. I couldn’t help but think of maybe not going through with this, and perhaps just pursuing Hunter. I shook my head at that and say down for another long hour of math.
