The Forbidden Fruit

Chapter 13

He slowly broke away from the side of my lips and looked into my eyes, closing them once again and then pressed his lips to mine gently. My eyes fluttered closed as he gently pushed me onto my back, straddling me. I took in the fact that my arms were limp at my sides as my pushed his hands through my hair. His kiss tasted stale and illegal. The taste of smoke filled my mouth and I tried to press it back into his mouth. He captured my bottom lip between his teeth and pulled away slowly. I opened my eyes slowly to see him staring at me. I sat up quickly, pushing him off of me.

I pressed the heel of my palms into my forehead, “This is so wrong.”

“This is so right.” He smiled greedily.

I looked up at him, “Um, hello?”

“What?”

“Our parents are dating!”

“So?”

“So don’t ever kiss me again.” I said simply, scooting away from him a bit more.

He scooted closer, “Why not?”

“Mark, I swear to God.”

“Come on Marla-”

“My name is Maria.” I cut him off.

“Marla, Maria, whatever.”

“I’d appreciate it if you left.”

He got up slowly, sending me a wink, “Catch you later, babe.”

I shuddered when the front door closed.

----------------------

“How was Mark?”

I glared at my Mom when she walked into the house.

“So? How was it?”

“He’s a fucking creeper, just like his Dad.”

“No he’s not, he’s a charming young man.”

“Then why don’t you date him?”

“Because that would be wrong, Maria.” My Mother sang, dropping her bag on the kitchen counter.

“I don’t want to hang around him, Mom.” I whined once she gave me the look.

“Dave and I already set up an outing.”

“Ugh, when?” I groaned, slumping onto the refrigerator.

“Saturday.” She smiled at me.

“I’m busy.” I lied, pushing myself off of the fridge and walked up into my room.

“You’re going!” She yelled up at me.

-----------------------

“Are you Maria?”

“Um, yes?” I asked, looking up to see a boy.

“Mr. Trad made us partners.”

“Uh, cool.” I nodded, going back to the problems that were assigned.

“What are we supposed to be doing?”

I looked up and started at him. He had brown hair, which was reminiscent of Derrick’s and dark brown eyes, almost like bittersweet chocolate. His nose was brushed with freckles and he had thin lips. I looked up to the board, re-reading the directions and turned back to him.

“Well, we read this chapter.” I pushed the book towards him, “And then do these questions.”

“I know.” He smiled,” I just like hearing you talk.”

I cleared my throat and looked down, hiding my blush, “What’s your name?”

“Shane.” He said simply, putting a heading on his paper.

I nodded and finished question five before I spoke, “You’re a senior, right?”

“Yeah.” He breathed, copying down the first question.

“Me too.” I nodded, mentally slapping myself.

“Isn’t that why you’re in Physics?”

“Maybe.” I said coyly.

“Let me get your number.”

I took my pen and wrote my number down on his hand, secretly wishing that he wouldn’t call me. Every boy I’ve met in this stupid town was defective.

-------------------------

“Ah, just in time.” Derrick said, handing me a duster.

“Can you be busy on Saturday?” I asked, staring at the duster.

“Uh, why?”

“Because I need to be busy.”

“Um, well, I have nothing planned.”

“I don’t care, I’m desperate.”
