Don't Jump

Let me jump for you

Standing on top of the roof she couldn’t help but notice how cold and calm the air was. She looked out towards the city, she knew the eyes were counting the tears falling down. She felt like each one was a promise each one never found. As a child she always dreamed of something big only to be dragged down by an alcoholic father ho always verbally abused her. Oh how she hated him, tonight made it worse.

He was the reason why her mother wouldn’t travel the two hours to visit her. She felt so alone living in Halifax the only close friend she really had was at the university down the street. The others she had weren’t really close friends, not like those two. Tonight she couldn’t take it anymore, tonight she would jump.

She opened up her eyes, she didn’t know what for but she did. She couldn’t help but notice how the snow was falling quietly around her. She put her thumbs in her pants pockets feeling her cell phone in her left one. The girl left out a sigh knowing no one would call her. She realized she lost herself in the pain and just wanted life to end so she could start over again.

Her hand still over her phone her mind drifted back to her friend. Her best friend, the one friend she could trust the most. At that moment she sat down on the edge of the building and thought of all of the good times they had. Smiling she could see the city lights were deceiving her. She looked down realizing how far up she was, she was both frightened and awed she knew the world was down there somewhere.

She then decided to pullout her phone and call her friend. She said she’d be there in five, the girl told her friend to dress warm. Soon enough she heard the door of the roof entrance open. She turned around slowly and walked over to her friend who gave her a hug. They then went to the girl’s apartment to talk and drink hot chocolate. A terrible night turned amazing.
