I got to Tre's and just let myself in as always. The guys were sat on the sofa, Tre, drinking beer, Mike drinking coffee, obviously waiting for me.
"Finally," said Tre. "We thought something awful had happened to you."
We all went down to the basement for practice, it was soundproofed so we didn't bother the neighbors, not a good idea round Tre's, he had some scary neighbours.
After practice, Mike took me aside to talk. "Billie, are you feeling okay?" he asked.
"Yeah, why do you ask?" This question didn't really bother me any more, I'd gotten even better at lying.
"Well, you've been a bit...off, recently. Not your usual self. And you haven't been playing so well."
"So I'm having a bad day, get over it," I snapped, scaring myself. I felt a strong force behind my eyes, like something was trying to break through my skull. Suddenly I couldn't see. But I heard Mike scream...
*Tre's POV*
I dashed towards the scream from the hall. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Billie was on top of Mike, his hands around his throat. Mike tried to yell again, but he couldn't. I grabbed a vase from the table, ran over and brought it down on Billie's head. He slumped over, falling to the floor. Mike gasped, gulping in air desperately. I helped him up.
"Mike, are you okay? What happened?" I asked, my heart pounding.
"Yeah, yeah I'm fine." He gasped, "I don't know what happened, he just leapt at me. I think if you hadn't whacked him, he woulda killed me."
"That's not like Billie. Not at all. I would never have thought... why would he do it?"
"No idea, all I did was tell him he had been a bit off recently, and he just grabbed me." I looked at Billie's fallen form on the floor with disgust. I wanted to kick him so bad, a rush of hatred towards my former best friend filled me. "
Is he gonna be okay?" Mike asked.
"Yeah, I didn't hit him that hard," I spat.
"What are we gonna do now?"
"Well, there's a big knife in the kitchen... "
"No!"
"He tried to kill you Mike!"
"He's still Billie."
