Chapter 10
Jasper’s POV
I stepped out of the car to allow Rosalie and Emmett to exit as well as Bella and Edward got out of the front seats. We all stayed around the car leaning against it as we waited for the bell to ring.
My eyes darted around looking for Evie though I couldn’t see her anywhere meaning that she probably hasn’t been dropped off yet. I sighed and Emmett snickered at me before he said
“You’ve got it bad man” I chuckled before I shrugged and said
“I can’t help it Emmett” he nodded and hugged Rosalie to him saying
“I know what you mean” before he lent down and kissed her cheek. Rosalie smiled at him and they started talking.
I leaned against the boot as I watched the entrance to the parking lot so I would see Evie’s Mom’s car as she pulled in and I didn’t have to wait long. I saw it pull into the lot before I watched her emerge; she lent down to say something to her mother before she stepped back and closed the door before waving as her Mom pulled away. I saw her look around before she saw us and I waved as she started coming towards us, she had a very determined look on her face and I frowned seeing it.
Edward appeared at my side and said
“she knows” I turned to him stunned and asked
“what?” he nodded and shrugged
“she must have figured it out last night, I told you it wouldn’t take much” I nodded and went to speak but her scent filled my nose and I turned as she reached us and coming to me she said
“can I talk to you Jasper?” I nodded and let her take my hand and lead me into the building, I looked back to see them all giving me encouraging looks and I nodded before we moved out of sight.
She pulled me all the way into the library where she took me to the most out of the way corner. When we reached it she let go of my hand and turning to face me she looked up at my face, searching it as if looking to see if I was hiding anything. I just stood there and let her, watching her back and I watched as she licked her lower lip then took a deep breath and said
“I know what you are” I nodded and said
“yes Edward just told me you knew” Evie let out a long breath before she smiled and said
“I knew he was reading my mind, he was wasn’t he” I chuckled and nodded and she looked at me suspiciously as she asked
“you can’t can you?” I shook my head and said
“not everyone has a gift like Edward” she cocked her head to the side and asked
“so you don’t have one?” I grinned and admitted
“oh no I have one” Evie looked at me expectantly and I chuckled as I carried on “well mine is like what you can do, I can sense people’s emotions and change them if I want to, I can calm a room or get them all pumped up if I want to, it comes in handy with those recently turned” Evie nodded as she soaked all the information in and then she asked
“so you all are vampires?” I nodded and she then asked ‘how long has Bella known?” I sighed and said
“a while, something happened and she found out, how did you work it out?” Evie frowned and said
“I went to the shops last night and bumped into someone who must have been Jacob Black, I recognized him from Bella’s description, and well he said that I smelled of leech so I went home and thought about it then looked it up and realized what you are” I nodded and we both stayed in silence before I said
“you know I understand if you don’t want to be near us now” Evie’s head shot up and she frowned as she asked
“what makes you think that?” I shrugged
“we drink blood, we kill things Evie” she shrugged and said
“people kill things all the time for food or even in rage or battle, it’s no different Jasper” I chuckled and she added “plus do you think I would have pulled you into a secluded part of the building if I thought you were going to eat me?” I chuckled again and she smiled before she stepped forwards and standing on her tip toes she kissed my cheek and I knew I would have blushed if I could. She smiled and whispered
“you don’t scare me Jasper” I smiled and kissed her cheek and I did see the blush spread across her face as she settled back on her feet and grinned up at me.
We were interrupted when the librarian came around the corner and glared at us
“what do you think you’re doing skulking around here? Out of here the pair of you!” we laughed and made our way out of the library and to class which would be starting soon.
Evelyn’s POV
During Algebra Emmett and Rosalie talked to me about it via notes so no one else could listen in and they both were glad that I was taking it so well and they thought it was good that I knew so that they didn’t have to hide it from me anymore.
During Algebra I would think random things to make Edward laugh now that I knew he could read my mind so I tried my hardest to get him back for it and he eventually turned around and told me to stop thinking to which I replied that thinking is inevitable and if he wasn’t careful I would think about some very illicit things. He glared at me then turned around and faced front before Jasper whispered that I was baiting the lion and I whispered back that if he was a lion then a kitty cat was an elephant making Jasper laugh as well.
At lunch I sat at the table and Bella and I talked about it and she told me about how she found out and it turns out she looked at the same websites I did last night to find out though she said she has a book at home that says more about it. She told me about the James incident and I winced before we discussed it more and the bell went.
Chemistry was another experiment and then Writing was just reading and Jasper and I made plans for me to go to his house after school. I nodded and after class I text Mom telling her about my going there and she said she would see me at home when I got back.
School ended and we all filed out of the building and I walked over to the Volvo where they were all waiting for me and I looked at the 6 of us before looking at the small car and saying
“we are not all gonna fit in there” they laughed and Emmett grinned
“Rosalie and I are gonna run home so there is plenty of room” I looked at him confused as I asked
“run?” he chuckled and Jasper explained
“we can run really fast in fact they will be home before we are” I nodded and watched as Emmett and Rosalie just became a blur before they disappeared. I looked around impressed before we climbed into the car.
When I was seated Bella turned around and said
“you might wanna wear your seat belt, they like to go fast and I mean 90 mph fast” I whistled
“that’s fast” Edward chuckled
“yeah well considering how fast we run, you realize that we need that same feeling when moving” I just shrugged and did up my belt before Edward pulled out and stepped on the gas making us shoot forwards out of the lot. I gasped and grabbed Jasper’s hand who just turned it over, and laced his fingers with mine, letting me grip him as I prayed for my life.
