I had gone to Evie’s this morning and warned her not to come over today. She had seemed kind of hurt by it until I explained about the Volturi and then she understood the danger and agreed to stay away, she even said she would get her Mom to take her to Port Angeles for the day where she was in a public place and surrounded by people out of the way which I thought was a smart thing to do though I knew if the Volturi really wanted to they could get her but at least there was less of a chance if she was surrounded by people.
Everyone was sat around waiting now, Carlisle took the day off of work and we all took the day off school as well so that we could be here for support if it was needed. Bella was the most nervous and she was scared I could tell and I tried to calm her but she glared at me like she always did making me smile slightly and she smiled back.
I was just about to crawl the walls with impatience when knocking came from the door and Carlisle went and answered the door letting them in while the rest of us got to our feet and waited for them, standing around Bella in a protective way in case they wanted to hurt her.
Carlisle and Aro were the first through the door and when Aro laid eyes on Bella he let out a breath and smiled
“Why my dear you are beautiful, step forwards so I can see you” Bella looked at Edward who nodded tightly and she stepped forwards hesitantly though not that far in front of the group. It was Aro who moved forwards and looked at her more closely. Behind them Jane, Alec and two other nameless vampires whom we had not met before; I saw Jane looking around again and I wondered what she was searching for.
“Well Bella you have turned into a wonderful vampire and I wonder if that delightful talent of yours remains?” he held out a hand to Bella and she slowly placed her hand in his and Aro closed his around hers and closed his eyes and tried to read her but his eyes quickly opened as he smiled
“just as I thought, they still remain and I cannot read you and I doubt any of the others powers would work either, it would be wonderful to have you with the Volturi” Bella shook her head and said nervously
“I wouldn’t, I couldn’t” Aro smiled and glanced at Edward
“ah yes you wouldn’t leave your mate behind would you” we knew that wasn’t the reason, well the whole reason but no one bothered to correct him and he smiled at Bella again and asked
“so I hope we have an invitation to the wedding?” Edward stepped forwards and took Bella’s hand in his as he answered politely
“of course you do Aro and we will send an invite once we know the date, it’s rather hard to do anything at the moment with her being a newborn” Aro nodded and turning to Carlisle he said
“well I guess we have seen all we need to, we shall take our leave now” Carlisle nodded and took them towards the door but I saw Jane look at a picture again and I caught a hint of curiosity and confusion in her before she followed Aro out of the door and we waited again until they were out of hearing range and let out a collective breath of relief. Bella looked up at Edward and smiled
“I thought he would be worse than that though do we have to invite them to the wedding?”
“It’s polite to Bella” he admonished and Bella laughed and placed a hand on his jaw
“Ah ever the old man Edward” she giggled before she ran off up the stairs with Edward giving chase.
Carlisle smiled at me and said
“Well I think it did go rather well and he didn’t find out about Evelyn” I nodded and made my upstairs so I could call Evie, though I still wondered what had interested Jane so much.
“so how did it go?” Evie asked as I sat on the sofa in my office and stared out the window with the phone held to my ear
“it went as well as expected, he simply looked at Bella, offered her a place in the Volturi then asked for an invite to the wedding before he left” I heard her sigh in relief and I smiled at the sound
“well that’s good but that can’t be everything, something is bothering you” I smiled at how she could read me over the phone, we had gotten that close
“nothing really it’s just something about Jane bothered me”
“the vampire ever trapped in a girl’s body?” she asked in confusion
“yes, it’s just she noticed something and I don’t know what it is” Evie sighed and replied
“well Jasper don’t worry about it, if it’s something important she will eventually reveal what she knows and we can deal with it then” I grinned at her use of the word ‘us’ and then I heard her yawn so I said teasingly
“I’ll let you go now sleepy” she groaned and said tiredly
“I’m not sleepy just a little tired” I laughed and said
“get some sleep honey, I’ll see you tomorrow” she huffed before she said suddenly
“you know you could see me now” I chuckled and said
“OK, leave your window open” she said OK before we hung up and I got up and jumped out of the window and ran to her house.
Jumping through the window I found her lights out and Evie in bed with the covers pulled over her shoulders. I chuckled and went to go back out the window when I heard her say
“you jump back out and I swear I will bolt that closed for the rest of my life” I smiled and turned around to find her peaking over the covers at me glaring. I chuckled and walked over and took off my shoes and she lifted the blanket up and I slipped under and wrapped my arms around her as she snuggled into my side and lent up and kissed my cheek
“I love you” she said and I kissed her lips and whispered
“I love you too” she then laid her head on my chest and fell asleep and I stayed there and watched her like I always do.
