Look at Me

4.

Paige’s room was yellow, bright sunshine yellow. Why was that not surprising? But there was something strange about it too. It was…blank somehow. Like a hotel room. There was a bed, a dresser, and a desk with a laptop sitting on it. But where were the books? Where were the posters of rock stars? Where were the cloths littering the floor? It was unnatural how clean it was. It didn’t seem like a teenager’s room at all.
Hayden’s eyes went to Paige as she shut the door behind them and walked past him to the bed. He watched the way she carefully pulled the perfectly made covers back before she stepped over to the closet.
Oh God, he though when she pulled an oversized T-shirt out. She was going to change. As interesting as that sight would be, he wasn’t a total pervert. So as she tugged at the hem of her top, he turned to stare at the wall.

Paige smiled as the dog lowered its gaze and the twisted to look in the opposite direction. It was like he was giving her privacy or something. She wanted to giggle at the thought. As if a dog really cared if humans had cloths on or not. She would just look like a big pale blob to it.
Still though, it kept its eyes pointed away until she said, “Okay babe, up on the bed.”

Damn she looked cute. Her hair was rumpled a little and the old T hung down to her knees. As he jumped onto the bed, Hayden felt more then a little like a creep. Especially when she jumped in beside him and crawled under the covers. Then she twisted the light off…not knowing what lay beside her in the dark.
A boy.
A shifter.
A freak of nature whose emotions were much too human for the form he held…

It was warm. Really, really warm. Paige could feel the beads of sweat trailing down her back in the heated darkness. She could feel the brush of something against her skin. When her eyes flickered slowly open, she saw nothing in the inky black, but she heard shallow breathing right beside her…
It’s the dog, Paige told herself. It’s the dog!
But then why did she feel something resting on her stomach? And why did that something feel like a hand?
Paige swallowed the scream that rose immediately in her throat, because why would someone be in her bed? There had to be some explanation that she just wasn’t seeing. So, Paige moved to slowly click her lamp on. And when she turned back, she saw him. Hayden Peirce was lying beside her in bed and it did not look like he had his shirt on.
Oh God, she though dazedly as she looked at the hand resting on her midriff. I’m having a sex dream.
Paige squeezed her eyes tightly shut again and whispered, “This is not happening. I repeat. This is not happening!”
