Holding On

First Day of 9th Grade

It was only my second class of the day and I had already gotten lost. I slid into my second period Honors English class and took a seat in the front row next to Mira. I was breathless from running through the halls, having taken one turn and ending up on the opposite side of the building. At least I wasn’t late, but I did get scolded for running.

The teacher, Ms. Lynch skipped to the front of the room. Right away I knew she would be one of my favorite teachers, one with lots of energy and a great attitude.

“Good morning my Freshmen Honors English Class!” she sang. “I am Miss Lynch and I will be your teacher for the whole year, not just one semester. I am going to call roll, so if I mispronounce your name, just tell me the correct way to say it.” She began calling roll, and of course Mira was first, her last name being Adkins. As I was waiting for my name to be called I took out a notebook from my tote and opened it. I started drawing an ocean, then added a sun setting. Before I could get any further, the teacher called,

“Aaron Cooke?” Out of the corner of my eyes I saw the guy sitting next to me raise his hand. I looked toward him, and saw him looking at me. In the moment that our eyes met, I knew he was the one.

The one I belonged with.

My true love.

My soul mate.

My everything.

Noticing that I was staring I blushed and looked away. I kept my eyes on the teacher and missed her calling,

“Natalie McKaphlin?” Mira pocked my side and I jumped a bit.

“Here!” I said. “I go by Alie though.” My friends call me both Natalie and Alie, but I prefer Alie, it’s more like my personality. When Ms. Lynch moved onto the next person Mira said to me,

“Did you see that Aaron guy?”

“He’s sitting right next to me,” I snapped trying to get her to be quieter.

“Yeah, well he’s hot,” she whispered. I stole a look at him and had to agree with my friend. It was impossible not to notice how his dark brown hair reached just above his unbelievably warm brown eyes and how his tan skin complemented his look further.

“Well, you have Kevin,” I said a little defensively.

“Ooooh, you like him,” Mira teased.

“Do not,” I lied, but not to myself. I knew he was my one and only, but for now no one else did.

Ok, sorry it took so long to get this up. I've had it written since Study Hall last Tuesday, but the weekend was extremely busy and I had no time this week. So here it is. What do you think? I might I have to change a few paragraphs later, I don't think I like the part where Natalie 'falls in love' with Aaron. I will keep it mostly the same, but will probably reword it, somehow.
RANDOM QUESTION (but I promise it will have some relevance later):
What does an ocean represent to you?
Please answer this question in the comments, even if it's just one word, anything helps. On to typing up the next chapter:D
