It's Gonna Be Hard When I'm Gone
I've Got A Brand New Tattoo
Jason and I discussed all the options I had on what I could do with Adrienne. I didn't quite know what I should do, but Jason suggested maybe giving her a chance, to see if she truly meant the things she said. I, at the very least, wanted to see her intentions. I didn't know why she'd come back into my life like this, but she was very persistent in her efforts, according to Jason. She'd called him twice today while I was at the movies, wondering where I was and why my phone was turned off. Was she worried about me? After all she'd done to me? She was worried? I laughed to myself at the thought.
After I'd laid out the options with Jason, we decided I should meet her for coffee, with my guard up. He left soon after, mumbling something about a date he was late for. I shooed him off, remembering it was Sunday and I had to work in the morning.
When I lay my head on my pillow that night, pictures went through my head. Adrienne and I, when we'd first met. She was the merch girl at a concert I'd went to a few years back. We hit it off talking about similar music interests. We exchanged numbers and the rest was history. The picture comforted me enough to allow me some sleep.
I woke up to the intruding sound of my alarm going off. Bright and early at 6 AM. I headed off to work. PromoWest Productions, best job a girl could have, especially if you loved music as much as I did.
Work passed me by while my head was in a daze. I had an idea of what I wanted to do when I got off. I wanted a new tattoo.
When I got off work, I headed to Evolved Body Art. I wanted to meet with one of the tattoo artists, Alana Robbie. I'd seen some of her work on my friends and it looked like she was a pretty good artist.
When I arrived, we talked and discussed the options I had for what I wanted. After about an hour, we had a price and time set for me to come in and get it done.
When I got home, I called Jason and told him all about my little tattoo idea. He loved it, and insisted he come with me when I get inked. I wasn't squeamish when it came to needles, because I'd gotten piercings before, but never a tattoo, so naturally I was a bit nervous.
I went to sleep that night wondering what Adrienne would think when she saw it. After all, I was meeting her directly after it was finished for coffee.
The next day, I woke up and called in sick to work. I wanted a personal day, and I was scheduled for my tattoo at noon, which meant I had a half an hour to kill before I needed to leave and pick Jason's lazy ass up.
I watched a little bit of Tool Academy 3 before I left, making sure to wear a shirt that wouldn't bother the tattoo too much. I pounded on Jason's door until he answered, and he was only clad in boxers.
“You've got five minutes to get dressed. Do not make me late,” I said firmly. I laughed at his frightened expression as I stepped in.
He took only 2 minutes to get dressed and be ready to leave. Of course, he brought his eye liner to put on during the ride there. I rolled my eyes as we pulled out of his parking lot.
“So, are you excited?” he asked, putting his eye liner in his pocket.
“Excited and very nervous,” I laughed, playing with the radio stations.
“It'll look great on you,” he smiled and patted my leg.
“It better.”
The conversation died off until we got there, when my nervousness took over and I became more and more chatty.
“You're gonna be fine, chill,” Jason laughed and waved at the guy working the counter, whose name was Jacob, I later learned.
Alana came out to the lobby and smiled, gesturing for me to follow her back to her tattoo station. I pulled my shirt over my head, leaving my tank top on.
“Is this low cut enough?” I asked, turning to Alana.
“It should be,” she laughed as I laid down, nearly shaking.
“You're gonna have to relax a little before I start. It's not that painful, honest. The worst part is the first minute,” she smiled, rubbing the gel to sterilize the area. She set up all the needles and colors before wiping the gel off. Jason grabbed my hand for assurance.
“Good to go?” she asked, smiling.
“Good as I'll ever be,” I mumbled.
I winced as she started moving the needle across my skin. This better be worth it, I thought to myself.
