The Killing Moon

Funeral

Destiny woke up early on Wednesday--the day of the funeral. Sue was sitting in the kitchen drinking a cup of coffee when Destiny walked in.

"Hey sweetie, I'm sorry this happened not even a day after you were here."

Destiny sat down at the table next to her aunt. "These things happen. I just wished it didn't happen to Uncle Harry."

Sue sighed. "I know sweet pea. The funeral is at noon so I better start getting ready." Sue got up from the table and slowly walked into her room.

Destiny was really sad about her uncle but wasn't as sad as Sue, Leah, or even Seth. Harry would never be there to walk Leah down the aisle, see Seth graduate, and

would never get to play with his grandchildren. Destiny wiped a tear that escaped her dark eyes. She had to be strong for her family.

She decided to go ahead and get ready for the funeral. She spent nearly an hour and a half in the bathroom. She wanted to straighten her hair; a task that took a while

to do. She finished by ten. Leah was getting ready in her room when Destiny walked in. She softly smiled over at her older cousin.

"I'm done in the bathroom." Destiny told her.

Leah nodded then gathered up her outfit and went into the bathroom. Once everyone was ready, they all got into Sue's car and headed to the funeral home where the

funeral would be held. The parking lot already contained a bunch of cars. When they walked inside people were giving their condolences to Sue, Leah, and Seth. Destiny

glanced around the lobby of the small chapel. She found Jacob standing next to Billy and Bella. She excused herself through the crowd until she reached them.

"Don't you look pretty Destiny."

She smiled. "Thanks Billy."

Jacob met her dark gaze but didn't say a word.

"Hi, I'm Destiny Young." she outstretched her hand towards Bella.

"Bella Swan." she replied while shaking her hand. "Are you Emily's sister?"

"Yes, speaking of Emily I'm going to find her."

Destiny excused herself from the awkward moment. She found Emily signing the guest book.

"Hey, the funeral's about to start. Do you want to sit with us?" asked Emily.

"Yeah."

Destiny followed Emily and Sam into the chapel. Friends and family were already seated. They found seats close to the front. Sad music and a slideshow of Harry's

pictures were playing. His coffin was opened and he looked really peaceful. The pastor waited for everyone to be seated before he started the sad ceremony.

"Today, we are gathered here to mourn the loss of our dear friend Harry Clearwater. But, let's not mourn his death but celebrate his life."

The pastor spent the next half hour saying his eulogy speech, praying, and listening to Indian songs which Destiny thought were really beautiful. Family and friends

were soon allowed to walk up to the casket and pay their final respects. Sue kissed Harry's forehead then walked off. Destiny glanced down at her Uncle. She had never

been around a dead body before. She put her hand over his, it was cold as ice.

The pall bearers carried the casket out to the herse. Everyone followed the black vehicle to the cemetery. they all said their final goodbyes to Harry then he was

lowered into the ground. Sue, Leah, and Seth put three red roses into the ground on top of the casket.

"Hey, we'll drive you back over to Sue's. I'll be bringing my food over too." said Emily.

"She's been cooking all night." Sam told Destiny.

Destiny quickly told Sue that she was going with Emily. Sue gave her a hug and told her to be careful. As Destiny followed Emily over to Sam's truck she spotted Jacob

looking at her. She tore her gaze away from him and got into the truck.
