Sweet, Sweet, Devil Child

Goodbye Miami

“I do not want to go!” Screamed Serena down the stair railing to her mother and father standing below
“Please, it’s a better job than here and it’s worth more money.” Her mum pleaded, Serena’s father was a priest and her mum was a Sunday school teacher, the job in Berkley payed more and had better ‘accommodations’, in other words a modern three story perfect home.
“I am not leaving Miami!” Yelled Serena, she had a life in Miami, okay so it was a double life. Perfect, good, innocent, little angel to her parents; hot-ass drag racer with the most trigged out ride in the city to just about everyone who wasn’t in their forties. Okay so Serena wasn’t as good as one may have thought, but she had her skills and lying to her parents was definitely one of them.
“We’ll give you the money you wanted for that shopping spree,” Her father bribed, Serena’s eyes lit up she didn’t really want to go shopping she wanted that money for a new piece for her engine. Then a thought struck her, how was she going to get her car into Berkley? Serena nodded her head in defeat and grabbing her credit card she walked straight to Jimmy’s ‘crib’ as he liked to call it. As always it was abuzz with people. Jimmy was the most happening drag race organiser in the country and he was loaded. She walked out back to the docks; to cheers and applause from the people watching the boats and the jet ski’s doing their thing.
“Serena! Ma crazy girl that was awesome last night!” Jimmy yelled walking out of a house boat; Serena gave him five remembering the race against Francis Harlem the rich bitch and then turned serious.
“Yeah, well my parents are making me move. I won’t be in the state let alone on the east side.” She said shaking her head
“What?!” Jimmy yelled
“You heard me Jimmy; dad’s taken a job in Berkley.” She answered in a pissed off tone
“You mean, Miami is gonna lose its pride and joy; the hottest drag racer in the country!” Jimmy said. The last sentence sent up the biggest applause yet.
“Yeah,” Serena answered in a forlorn tone.
“Oh my god, are you serious?!” Jimmy said, shocked as Serena nodded her head. The whole complex went silent
“I didn’t want to go, but I have to. But there’s a bigger problem,” She said biting her bottom lip
“What could be bigger than losing you to California?” Jimmy yelled, throwing his hands up in the air
“Try me not having the car.” Serena said shaking her head solemnly.
“You mean you’d be leaving it here!” Jimmy shouted, furious. Serena ran her hands through her long wavy dark thick hair.
“You think I want to! Jimmy!” Serena screamed, she had no idea what to do Berkley was hardly known for its dragging scene so she’d have to drive into central California for every race.
“No, I know you don’t but come one. There’s got to be something you can do…” He pleaded
“I’ve tried everything! I know you have your connections to Cali so can you please just get my ride down there somehow, trust me I’ll get back here somehow.” Serena said biting the inside of her cheek
“Last I checked Berkley is grunge-ville. How the hell do your parents expect you to be safe down there? If they still think you’re a fucking virgin!” Jimmy yelled when they were in his house boat, Jimmy was closer to Serena than anyone he knew about the lies she had to tell. In all honesty he knew more about her than she did.
“I don’t know! It’s hard enough having to leave here! I have a LIFE in Miami not in Berkley.” She yelled straight back at him standing up, “I have to leave tomorrow morning ring me when you get it organised.” She said,
“Hang on,” Jimmy said “So this is it goodbye?” He was looking up at her like he was about to lose his best friend. He looked how Serena felt, she turned her head away
“It has to be,” She muttered
“Can’t you just convince them?” he pleaded
“I tried! Jimmy it’s a lost cause! Just get the car down to California!”
“What? You can’t convince you parents? Since when cant you fool ANYONE.”
“Okay I really have to go!” Serena said standing up it was about 8pm she was so going to be in trouble if she didn’t think of a lie quick smart. Serena walked in the door confronted by her parents.
“Who do you think you are?!” Bellowed her father
“We had no idea where you were!” Her mum screamed, Serena tapped her foot impatiently, okay lie time
“I’m so sorry but I had to say goodbye to my friend’s mum, dad I am sorry I should’ve told you where I was going I’ll never do it again. I’m sorry.” She said she layered on the faux guilt.
“Okay sweetie we understand. Well go pack we leave early tomorrow.” Her dad said she smirked to herself her dad was such a pushover.
“Goodnight,” She said kissing each of them softly on the cheek.

Serena’s POV:
I’m sitting on a plane and I am bored out of my brains all I can think about is the great life I had in Miami and the nothing I have in Berkley my heart filled with dread and hatred towards my parents. As the plane beeped the captains voice rang through the cabin
“Good morning!” He sounded so cheerful he didn’t realise what he was doing didn’t he realise he was damning me to hell, “We are currently landing. The temperature…” I tuned out landing was all I needed to hear to wish I was dead. This thought ran through my head like suicide. I trudged of the plane like a soldier going into battle; I could really do with a strong drink and a cigarette I thought to myself. I knew all I needed was my car but no, it was going to be weeks till it made its way to California. I looked around and shaking my head this place was so not going to be any good with dragging. I smiled sweetly to my parents,
“Okay into the car,” my dad said
“Car?” I said confused
“Berkley is over an hour from here,” I groaned, rubbing my temples I climbed into the SUV out the corner I saw the best looking motorbike I had ever seen.
“Mum, Dad? Can I drive myself down there?” I asked innocently my parents beamed probably proud that I could drive
“Of course sweetie,” My mum said smiling. I clambered out of the car and walked over to the bike, examining it with my careful eye.
“Nice bike,” I said to a guy standing next to me he just kind of waltzed up a look of ‘who do you think you are?’ on his face. This guy was in one word punk, converses and a sleeveless shirt on. He was kind of cute.
“Yes I love my mike-mobile.” He said with a laugh, I stared at the bike with wonder
“God, when my car comes to Cali you gotta have a look it is the most trigged out engine on the east side.” She spoke like she was still in Miami this was probably from no where near Berkley so I didn’t have a problem saying about her car.
“Is that so?” He said, Pig think I’m lying just cause I’m a girl. I thought not liking his sarcastic tone “I’m Mike.”
“Yes that is so, and I’m Serena nice to meet you. Where are you from anyway?” Okay so what I’m nosey go cry about it.
“Berkley, and I’ll take it your new?” Straight away I wanted to kick myself he was from Berkley spelt out I was s-c-r-e-w-e-d.
“Ah yeah, and believe it or not I’m from Miami, moving to Berkley. I’m the new preacher’s daughter.” I said sealing my doom
“Yeah? You don’t sound like a preacher’s daughter.”
“I wish I wasn’t.” I muttered under my breath, glaring at the ground
“Well I might see you around the town but not the church; I’m not really the church going type.” Mike said with a laugh
“I’m not either. But my parentage comes with certain conditions.” I said rolling my eyes as I always do, it’s the one thing I have to work on my mum can’t stand it. At this statement Mike burst out laughing
“I will have to see you around Berkley won’t I.” He choked out
“I’ll be heart broken if you don’t,” I was wearing jeans and a black top with a massive red skull and cross bones on it, okay a bit risky when your parents are religious do-gooders but I wore a black hoodie don’t worry. I stripped off the hoodie and tied it my waist.
“Nice top,” Mike smirked, then laughed again
“Isn’t it? Now you wouldn’t by chance be going back to Berkley, because I kind of missed my ride.” As Mike contemplated my request a loud revving filled the airport parking lot
“What the fuck is that?!” Mike said, a black car came zooming into the parking lot and my eyes lit up, as the car pulled up in front of them revealing flaming graffiti which read ‘devil child’ with an image of a red devil holding a pitchfork surrounded by flames
“My car,” I giggled
Mikes POV:
“Nice top,” I smirked, gah! smart one you had to smirk it IS a nice top dumb ass. Then laughed at my own stupidity
“Isn’t it? Now you wouldn’t by chance be going back to Berkley, because I kind of missed my ride.” I was so shocked as the preacher’s own daughter asked me of all people ME for a ride back to Berkley on the mike-I was speechless, my thoughts were only disturbed as a loud revving filled the airport parking lot
“What the fuck is that?!” I said, a black car came zooming into the parking lot and my eyes lit up, as the car pulled up in front of them revealing flaming graffiti which read ‘devil child’ with an image of a red devil holding a pitchfork surrounded by flames. It was the most awesome looking car I had ever seen the paint job was brilliant and I couldn’t wait to have a look under its hood that’s if the driver would let me.
“My car,” Serena giggled, I looked at her and quickly shut my mouth realising I looked like a fish, a black man stuck his head out the window
“Serena! I thought I’d missed you!” He yelled, god mike you’re such an idiot of course someone as hot as that already had a boyfriend and a loaded one at that. The guy was decked in the best brands and a large gold dollar sign hung round his neck. The two punched knuckles as he got out the car
“Mike, meet my friend Jimmy. He’s from Miami, and as you can see he brought my car down so my parents don’t get to suspicious.” Serena said introducing me,
“Hi,” I said,
“Well looks like I have my ride now,” Serena laughed grabbing the keys “Well I told you, that you had to see how trigged out it was mike. So get yo butt over here and have a look!” She said popping the hood, I walked over and looked inside the engine was as hot as the paint job if not better. I could tell no expenses had been spared on this baby, no wonder she said it was the best car on the east side.
“That is the most fucking awesome car ever!” I yelled as she closed the hood
“We know,” Jimmy said Serena shook her head at this statement, and I became very confused
“For the millionth time not your car! MY car!” She yelled at jimmy, punching him playfully in the arm
“Okay, okay I surrender.” He said feigning fear of the seventeen year old
“Oh you think your so big coz your twenty-three news flash I’m the racer!” Serena’s face flushed red like she had made a very big mistake and she shut up completely
“Hang on” I said starting to come too my senses “totally trigged out ride, east side, racer….your a dragger.” I said my eyes wide Serena blushed damn it she even looked hot when she blushed
“Well, um…shit.” She cursed, confirming my theory
“Don’t say anything, I don’t want to know.” I said before she could answer.
Serena’s POV:
“Oh real smart, can’t you stop drag racing” said the little angel on her left shoulder
“No, she can’t bad girls are more loved anyway,” Said the devil on her right
“Yeah and where’s the proof of that?” sneered the angel
“Oh can both of you just shut up!” I yelled, Mike and Jimmy looked at me quizzically “I just said that out loud didn’t I?” I said my eyes wide with realisation
“Kind of,” Mike said looking at me as if I may just turn into a raging monster
“Oops…” I muttered. I noticed Jimmy had gone “bye to you to, retard.”
“Well, um…” Mike said “It’ getting late and wont the preacher be wondering were you are?” He teased
“Like I care, but I got to find somewhere to put this baby,” I said motioning to my car “Cause my parents don’t even know about her.”
“Well just as a temporary thing,” Mike said looking a the car “why don’t you dum- I mean leave her at my place and we’ll find somewhere to put her.” He offered I threw my arms around him
“Oh my god! Thank you so much!” I yelled, then I quickly let go of him and jumped in the car as he got on the ‘mike-mobile’
“Follow me!” He shouted I revved my engine in acknowledgement. Then he drove on out of there I was following in hot pursuit. It reminded me of the das I was running from the cops after a drag had been sniffed out except back then I was going full pelt ignoring every road rule ever laid down, and today I was just cruising down highway fifty the wind blowing through my hair. We turned into Berkeley and I noticed we were on the other side of town from were I was going to be living this side of town didn’t seem as well off. I felt guilty sitting in my multi-million dollar earning car and true most of that money had gone back into the car or to various orphanages but I didn’t seem to be enough. As they drove further it became nicer middle-class suburbia, mike motioned for me to turn into a garage. I honked my horn to let him know I understood then turned in after him waiting briefly for him to open the garage door. I drove the car straight in and parked her. I stepped out with a flip of my hair okay I was flirting a little so sue me…actually is that a crime? If so please don’t sue me.
“Thankyou sooooo much,” I reached into my pocket and pulled out five-hundred dollars from my wallet, “for being a life saver.” I said handing him the wad of cash
“Hey, I’m in a band with some mates I’m about to go to Billie’s place and practice you interested?” I nodded
“That sounds great!”
“You need to call your parents?” He asked,
“If that’s okay? Oh and can I steal your bathroom while I’m at it?” I said, Mike laughed and nodded I grabbed a bag out of the trunk and walked inside
“Phone’s inside,” I walked in and dialled my mums number she answered
“Hi mum,” I said
“Oh hello sweetie, are you lost?” She asked concerned
“No, I’m just going to be late I am going somewhere.” I said innocently
“Okay darling.” She hung up the phone I walked out in a completely different outfit.
“She’s all cool with i-” I broke off noticing two other people had joined Mike
“Awesome!” Mike said “Tre, Billie, meet Serena. Serena welcome to Billie Joe and Tre.”
“Hey,” I said with only one thought on my mind these were three of the hottest guys she had ever seen!
Billie Joe’s POV:
The door opened and I swung my head around,
“She’s all cool with i-” A girl stood in the doorway donned white like you’d wear to the beach that rally stood out against her tanned skin, she had long chocolate brown wavy hair and a smile that could light up any room.
“Awesome!” Mike said “Tre, Billie, meet Serena. Serena welcome to Billie Joe and Tre.”
“Hey,” Her voice was tainted with cheek and mystery but she all the while maintained an innocent demeanour.
Tre’s POV:
I heard the door open but I didn’t look up I was to bust staring at Mike’s new car, no idea how he afforded it but it was awesome.
“She’s all cool with i-” A girl’s voice rang out, like angels but it was tainted with some sort of evil, I turned there stood a girl in a white dress with long wavy chocolate brown hair and tanned skin. Her lips were full and glossy and her smile was bright, okay enough of the explanation I think you all realise but for the dumb fucks out there who don’t she was HOT
“Awesome!” Mike said “Tre, Billie, meet Serena. Serena welcome to Billie Joe and Tre.”
“Hey,” She said with a wink but I may have just imagined it “Like he said, I’m Serena.” She stepped down
“Okay enough Google eyeing,” She said with a jokey tone in her voice
“I’m sorry,” I started “yo-” she finished her sentence before I could say anything else
“If your in love with my car I’ll give you a ride.” She laughed
“You car!” Me and Billie gawked in unison
“What you think I’m just a lad with no tricks up ‘er sleeve?” I left my explanation at that I popped the hood and made sure that everything was in place and working.
“Are you fucking serious?” Billie Joe said looking Serena in the eye her eyes were the exact same colour as his “you can handle a motor like that?”
“I am so about to school your ass. Get in.” She sounded pissed but in a jokey way we all piled into the car and she forced Billie to sit in the front as though she was about to prove the point of the century.
Billie Joe’s POV:
Serena grabbed my hand and forced me to sit in the front
“You are so dead,” She muttered pulling the car into reverse she sped out the driveway quickly accelerating as we drive up the street we speed around the corner
“Fuck Cops!” I scream seeing them out of the corner of my eye I hear sirens and I know they are following us
“Hold on!” Serena yelled, she pushed something I couldn’t see it but she must be part car or something cause as that car screamed down the road faster than a speeding bullet she spun the wheel with one hand like she did this out-race the cops thing everyday. After about 10 minutes we lost the tight-ass cops. But something wasn’t right about this girl you don’t drive with that skill, if you’re just some chick and you definitely don’t know jack about cars.
Serena’s POV:
Mike, Tre and Billie were whooping with adrenaline I was pretty much falling asleep at the wheel with bordem in Miami that pursuit would’ve lasted an hour minimum and Luke would always be nearby blood rang cold as his name echoed through my head
FLASHBACK
I’m sitting up on the roof of a boat at Jimmy’s making out with Luke then suddenly I feel something snap around my wrist, I laugh thinking he’s up to something kinky then three words rang from his mouth that made me ready to commit murder
“Your under arrest,” My boyfriend muttered as he said it cops swarmed the joint snapping handcuffs around people but not before most of the REAL ‘draggers’ had gone. I looked at him and hatred filled my broken heart
“YOU BASTARD! YOU’RE A FUCKING COP!” I screamed I had never been so angry in my life.
“Aww… come on baby I still love you he said bringing his lips closer to mine
“Get your fucking lips away from me!” I screamed ramming my knees were it really hurts a guy
“Ow…fuck!” He screamed rolling over I sat on top of him
“How long?! Was it before or after we hooked up?!” I screamed for some reason I cared more for my heart at the time than I did the whole under arrest thing. He looked at me
“Before, but I really do love you,” He said
“You disgust me!” I yell kicking him in the stomach
“Come on babe don’t be like that,” He whined
“Don’t babe me. How much did they see of you and me?”
“Everything,”
END FLASHBACK
So your probably wondering then why I am not a) in jail or b) my parents still don’t know. Because as the police left Jimmy saw me with hands cuffed behind by back and yelling at he heard enough to beat the shit out of Luke and unlocked my cuffs the cops never raided Jimmy’s again. Turns out they couldn’t charge anyone because the idiots didn’t save the transmissions from Luke’s little slut-cam.
“What’s the matter Serena?” Billie Joe asked looking me in the eye they were the exact sae colour as mine and penetrating
“Nothing, just reminiscing,” I muttered and Mike looked at me his eyes seemed to say I promise I won’t tell
“Now that sounds bad,” Tre said
“Oh no, he thinks it’s sexually related AGAIN.” Mike teased
“Weren’t you guys having a practice of some kind?” I said raising her eyebrows.
“Oh well,” Mike said he knew no one was going to be interested in practicing now.
“Hey Billie have you got anything at your place?” Tre asked meaning weed, I was kind of frozen, I may be dragger but I am not into drugs of any kind they can totally screw up your life.
“Yeah,” He said, looking at Tre “You want some Serena?”
“No thanks, I have to get back home and I got to get this car to Mike’s her fuel is dying,” I lied the car had a full tank pretty much. Mike leant over and I elbowed him in the side, telling him to play along. I spun the car back to Mikes and parked it in his garage.
“Thanks for the ride,” Tre said
“Yeah,” Billie Joe said, and mike nodded his appreciation. I got out of the drivers seat and grabbed the keys,
“Excuse me,” I said to Tre and he moved over I lifted the cushioning on his chair and unlocked the compartment inside were a set of numberplates and a screwdriver.
Billie Joe’s POV:
Serena just grabbed out another set of numberplates and she was unscrewing the old ones I caught a glimpse of that compartment I saw about twenty different numberplate sets in there. This girl was definitely involved in something and it wasn’t the ACU (American car union) she stood up, and brushed off her hands.
“Well thanks a tonne for the garage mike.” She said walking over to the three of us, “But can someone tell me were this is?” She said showing them an address that was typed into her phone
“That’s the other side of town,” I said recognising the address
“Hey, isn’t that the preacher’s house?” Tre asked looking sideways at me, I nodded “Why the hell do you need to know where to find the preacher’s house?”
“Cause, I’m his sweet, little angel of a daughter.” She said, me and Tre cracked up laughing this girl was hilarious
“Dude, she’s serious.” Mike said slapping us around the head
“YOU’RE the preacher’s daughter?” Tre said eyebrows raised into the start of his green hair
“I think we’ve been over that,” She said she seriously was starting to get really pissed wasn’t she? “Okay, well if nobody is going to tell me. I better go wonder around looking for it.” She said walking out of the garage. That was a bad idea, a girl like that would get raped just wondering around Berkley, Me, Mike and Tre ran after her
“Wait Serena!” Mike yelled and she stopped and turned
“I’ll drive you there,” I said rolling my eyes. Her face set into the most beautiful smile I had ever seen, and she followed me to my car.
