In Bronx, New York Brianna and her brother Anthony live in a small two bedroom apartment. They live with their mother Sarah and father Makya. Brianna is only 17 years old and attends Jane Addams High School. She comes from a very unstable and dysfunctional family. Her mother has worked on the streets just to support their family, because their father is barely home. Makya is always out drinking and gambling with other gang members of Bronx. Brianna desperately wants to leave home and start a better life.
