Let My Heart Rest In Pieces 002

Introduction

“Hey, weren’t you the two people in the painting isle today?” Gerard, the home improvement worker, asked, standing inside the house that I was assuming was his own.

“Wow, so you live here? How coincidental is that?” Dad said, smiling at him.

“Are you the people living in the house next door?”

“Yep, just moved in yesterday actually.”

“Gerard! What’s taking you so long?” A feminine voice yelled from sort of far off.

“Coming Mom! Why don’t you guys come inside?”

Gerard stood aside, allowing my father and me to enter the house. Inside I could already see about a dozen or so people standing around in the living room. Gerard led us over to a nice looking woman who was laughing with another woman. When we approached her, she turned and smiled at us.

“So you’re the two that live in the house over there? It’s nice to meet you. My name is Donna Way, but you can call me Donna.”

“Nice to meet you as well Donna. I’m Josh Moore, and this is my daughter, Envy.”

Donna gave me a kind smile, which I returned. Gerard was still standing there; I’m guessing asking for directions from his mother.

“Gerard, why don’t you take lovely Miss. Envy upstairs into your room with the rest of the boys? I’m sure she’d be bored to death with us adults. And no horse play, alright?”

“Yes ma’am,” he replied, giving her a fake salute before climbing up the staircase, with me following slowly behind him. He opened a door that had band stickers and weird signs all over it and I heard laughing from the inside. Gerard motioned me inside, and again, I followed. I was hidden behind him, and he was welcomed with hellos.

“We have a guest with us guys. This is our new neighbor, Envy Moore.”

He stepped aside as if he was introducing the president or something and I found four other boys starting at me.

The first one I noticed was a paleish looking guy with a red brown afro going on and brown eyes that sparkled. He gave me the sweetest smile, and I couldn’t help but smile back with a blush.

The next was a boy with thick rimmed glasses that hid his light brown eyes, which were framed with dark hair. He pushed up his glasses with a finger, and smiled as well. He seemed like one of those cute kids that you just want to run up to and give a hug.

Next to him was a smaller, and very good looking, boy with a kind of Mohawk going on. His hazel eyes stood out against the rest of his looks and he smirked at me.

The last boy that sat next to him had short blond hair with icy blue eyes that matched. He also had a little scruff going on, which didn’t look to bad on him.

“Envy, this is Ray, Mikey, Frank, and Bob; in that order.”

“Nice to meet you all,” I said, kind of shyly.

“Well, aren’t you just the cutest thing!” Ray, the one with the poofy hair, stated, getting up to tuck me into a hug. He was very friendly, and I could see me getting along with him well in the future. Even after the hug was over, he kept his arm over my shoulder until Gerard batted him away.

“Nice to meet you Envy,” Mikey said, just as shyly as I had. He was so adorable.

“Yo,” was all Frank said, still with that smirk plastered to his mouth.

“What’s up?” Bob voiced not really any emotion behind it.

“Take a seat,” Gerard said, his arm sweeping around the room to indicate that I could probably sit anywhere I could find room. He fixed himself on a tiny space in between Mikey and Frank on a bed. I just decided to sit on the floor in front of them all.

“So Envy, you’re going to Belleville High right? What grade are you in?”

“I’m a senior this year; it’ll be the beginning of the end.”

Mikey laughed and started to poke at Frank, who had a sour look on his face. “You’re just a junior this year, how lame.”

“Shut up, will you? Just because I’m the youngest…”

“How old are you Frank?” I questioned, leaning forward with my elbows on my knees.

“I’m 17, but I’m turning 18 on Halloween.”

“Nice, you’re birthday sounds like a load a fun. I turned 18 in March.”

“Are you going to get a tattoo?” Ray asked with a large grin on his face. I smiled back at him.

“I was thinking about it, but I don’t know what I would get.”

For a couple more hours, the guys and I got to really know each other, and we laughed until we were crying. I didn’t realize how late it was until I looked out the window to see the stars shining brightly in the sky and the glow of the lamps from outside.

“Holy crap, what time is it?” Bob asked.

“9:03.”

“Damn. I think it’s time that my father and I head home. He has to work tomorrow and I have to rearrange the house.”

“Well, if you need any help, we’re right next door. Plus, you have these goons in the neighborhood to help.”

I smiled, probably for the millionth time this evening, and stood up. I walked out the door, and they followed behind me, having nothing to do. It wasn’t hard to find my dad; he seemed to be the life of the party that was going on downstairs. Once he saw me, he looked at his wrist watch and stood up.

“Well, it looks like it’s time for us to head home. I hope to meet up with you all again soon.”

After our long goodbyes, we both headed out the door and started walking the two minute walk to our house. Dad had his arm around my shoulder and we talked about all the fun we had.

“I feel that this will be a great place to live in. I bet a lot of memories are going to be had here.”

“Me too.”

The sound that woke me up the next morning was an annoying sound that I had become familiar with over the years, or year. It was the loud beeping of the innocent black alarm clock on by bed side table. For such a little contraption, it could sure make a loud noise. The longer I stayed in bed, the louder it seemed to be. Noticing this after five minutes, I threw the covers off my body, slamming my hand down on the plastic surface. It instantly shut off, and there was a peaceful silence.

“There’s no point in going back to bed, it will magically just turn back on to ruin my sweet slumber and dreams.”

I readied some clothes to get into after I was done with my shower, and walked into the conjoining bathroom. I quickly bathed, coming out smelling like freshly cut kiwi. Kiwi has always been my favorite fruit.

I dried off, then put the clothes on before wiping the mirror of condensation and looking at my reflection in the mirror.

Dark brown eyes stared at me, barely distinguishable from the pupil. These orbs are framed by dark brown hair, with bangs falling into my eyes, almost matching in color. I looked a lot like my mom, you could tell instantly from pictures you saw of her. The things that I hadn’t inherited from her were the super curly hair and pale complexion. I was very grateful for that.

That had been enough of a vanity moment for me and I put on a small amount of eye liner along with a dark skin tone eye shadow, and then headed downstairs. I was met with a almost deathly silent house with all the lights off. I turned the kitchen light on and found a note on the counter. It was from my dad telling me he was working and wouldn’t be home until around five.

“Well, I guess I better get to putting everything away.”

To get rid of the silence, I walked over to our large stereo, placing a Beatles CD inside and pushing play. The first song that played was ‘Help!’ and it just made me want to jump around and sing to it. I’d hum the words as I took things out of boxes, placing them in their appropriate places. As I was singing and the chorus was playing, there was a knock on the door and I walked over to answer it, singing along with the music.

“Help me get my feet back on the ground. Won’t you please, please help me?”

The door was opened, and my face turned red as I saw that the friends I had made yesterday were standing at the door, and they had heard me singing.

“Hi guys,” I replied, trying to pretend that I hadn’t just embarrassed myself.

“Were you just singing to The Beatles?” Mikey asked.

“Yes…” I replied, turning a deeper red.

“That was pretty good,” Gerard announced before walking into the house.

“T-thanks. Come on in I guess.”

Once everyone was inside, I walked over to the stereo and put it on pause so that I could talk to them all.

“How can I help you?” I asked politely, staring at them all just lined up in my living room.

“My mom encouraged us all to come over here and help you set up and such,” Mikey answered, that cute little smile on his face. I smiled back at him and looked at them all.

“If you all don’t mind listening to The Beatles, then I guess that would be great.”
