Let My Heart Rest In Pieces 024

Invitation

The day after the concert, which was a Wednesday by the way, turned out to be one of the strangest days of my life. Some things should just stay normal.

Once again I began my walk to school. Ever since Frank sort of abandoned the group, my walk was usually a lonely one. Mikey was the only one who was still in contact with Frank what so ever, and he decided he was going to be with him in the mornings. No one blamed him, the two had been best friends for such a long time. So unless Bert woke up late enough to be walking right now, which was rare, I was left alone.

But I wasn't alone. When I was almost to school, I felt a tap on my shoulder. After I turned around, I saw someone I had never met before, but whose face seemed familiar.

"Yes?" I asked, crossing my arms across my chest and waited for the teenager to speak. A smirk spread across his face, which I did not find comforting.

"Envy Moore. I saw your performance last night, it was pretty good."

"Thanks, I guess," I replied, about to turn back around until the male stopped me.

"That's not all. I'm Todd Jones and I was told to give you this from Frank," Todd said, pulling out a party invitation. Ah, now I could place him. He was the one that usually formed a trio with Alice and Frank.

"A party invitation?"

"Yeah. Frankie wanted you and this kid Mikey to come."

"I'll see what I can do," I dismissed, not giving the boy time to say anything else. I was relieved when I saw my friends all standing at the usual spot in front of the school.

"Hey Envy!" Roxy shouted, waving at me. I laughed, forgetting everything that had happened only moments before, waving back to my short friend.

"Hey there Roxy-Cake," I greeted, giving the girl a hug. I gave everyone else my welcomes before looking around.

"Where is-"

"Right here," I heard a deep voice say into my ear, causing chills to run down my spine.

"Oh great, here comes the intense make out session," Dan gagged, scrunching up his nose and shaking his head.

"If you call what we do in front of you guys intense," I teased, "then the stuff we do in private would kill your innocent eyes." Everyone joined into the laughter.

Unfortunately, the bell rang, causing all of us to groan and start to separate.

"See you all at lunch!"

"And I will see you in third," I announced, now facing Drake, giving him a smile. He leaned down, turning his cheek to me so I could kiss it, which I did.

"The moments will pass by quickly, I hope," he said, kissing my hand. "You made a great impression on my parents, by the way. My mother loved you."

"That's great. I really like her too, she's really nice."

The second bell then rang, to which I sighed. Drake pulled me into a hug, holding me close. When we both let go, I waved him goodbye sadly, heading off to English.

In the hallway, the teens still littered the halls, none of them really wanting to go to class. On my trek, a lot of people waved, said hello, and told me I was really great at the concert. I didn't realize that so many people had come. The treatment continued in Mrs. Colt's class, and I felt really popular with everyone gathered around my desk. Class soon started, making everyone retreat to their seats, and I was glad for my personal space again.

"Oh, Mikey! Wait up!" I yelled towards the boy, who was only a few yards ahead of me. He stopped and gave me the usual smile when I caught up.

"What's up?" he asked, now walking in step with me. I dug the invitation out of my bag, handing it to him.

"This kid, Todd, came up to me and gave me this invitation to a party."

"Why are you telling me this?" Mikey questioned, walking into the Physics room.

"Because he said you're supposed to come too, so says Frank."

"Really? It's weird that he wouldn't just tell me that in the morning. I've never been to a popular party."

"You're actually thinking about going?"

"You're actually not? Come on Envy, it's a party, probably one of the best this year. You have to come!"

"Why?" I whined, taking my seat.

"Because if you don't, I'll be all alone."

"You have Frank, you know, the one that invited you to the party?"

"I know, but that's it!" he explained, throwing his hands up in the air, "So I'll be completely alone when he wants to hang out with anyone else."

I rolled my eyes, but nodded my head. "I'll think about it, okay? But that's not a promise."

Mikey could not respond before Ms. Den walked into the room, dressed as usual.

"Settle down class," she demanded, instantly getting silence. "Before we start class, I want to recognize Envy Moore, who sang beautifully at the open house last night."

I was left there in shock at what the woman just said. Something nice, and to me of all people. God, this day was starting out weird.

~~~~~
"That's the strangest thing I've ever seen in my life," I confessed to Mikey after we escaped our class together.
"I know, I've never seen her compliment someone before," he said in awe. He was more bewildered at this than the fact that he had been invited to a party. And rightly so.
Once we had to split, I said bye and eagerly walked towards Economics, where my prince charming was waiting. Wow, that sounded so "Disney".
"Hey baby," I said, looking over his shoulder at what he was reading. "What's that?"
"Something I have to read for one of my classes," he answered, putting the thin book in his book bag. "But you're a much more interesting read."
"You're so corny."
"But it's cute."
"That it is."
"Alright you love birds," Mr. Singer said when he passed us, "knock it off."
The two of us grinned. "Yes sir."
The man stood behind his desk, facing his whole class. He picked up a stack of papers from his desk and straightened them.
"Today, you're all going to have a test."
"But we never have tests!" the boy directly behind me complained. I silently agreed with him.
"Well, today we are. Get out a pencil. We're going to see who has been paying attention."
I felt like slamming my head against the desk, multiple times. Why couldn't this day just be normal?!
~~~~~

Marching into my Chorus class seemed to be analogous to being thrown into a war zone. Maybe worse. The whole class was gossiping about last night and how people who were there were still talking about it.

"I have a headache," Taylor said once I finally found her.

"They are quite loud, aren't they?" I asked, pulling my chair next to hers and sending her a sympathy glance.

"I'm excited too, but good lord," she sighed.

"Shut up!" Mr. Smith shouted when he entered the room. He had to repeat his demand a couple more times until everyone was quiet. He pinched the bridge of his nose, standing at the front of the room.

"You all did great last night, and I want to thank our soloists for doing such a good job on their parts. Now that it's over, we're going to go back to the usual business."

The man turned around, grabbing a small pile of papers from the piano next to him. I hoped and prayed in my mind that it wasn't another test.

"But before that, I have some information on the contest. If you signed up for it, come and grab a packet."

Not many people had to go up, so I was back in my seat next to Tay soon. The two of us looked over everything that the papers said. "This looks so complicated. Too much paperwork evolved for my taste."

"Good thing you didn't sign up then, huh?" I teased, putting the packet in my bag.

"I totally would have blown you out of the water anyway."

Is it just me, or did I use the word "invitation" a lot? :D

This is kind of a boring chapter that will soon lead up to something more important. Frankie fans, don't worry! Your time for love and fluffiness is coming soon, I promise.
