Let My Heart Rest In Pieces 035

Fill In Boyfriend

This was really starting to get awkward. Not just the silence, but the atmosphere around the two of us. At first I thought Jeremy was a little shy and that being partners would stop that, but apparently there was something deeply wrong that he didn’t seem to want to fix.

The two of us were now walking to my house, in complete and awkward silence mind you, and I felt out of place. Usually, I found it really easy to talk to people, but no matter how hard I tried, this kid either answered in a small amount of words, or he wouldn’t answer at all. Jerk.

I was thankful to be coming up to my house, noticing that my father’s car was parked in the drive way. Knowing that the door wasn’t going to be locked, I opened it and ushered Jeremy inside. “Welcome to the Moore household.”

Hearing the door open, my father turned his head from looking at the TV to smile at me, then at the strange new boy. “Hey V, who’s that?”

“This is Jeremy. We have to do a project so he’ll be over here a couple times a week. We’ll be going up to my room.”

“No funny business.”

I rolled my eyes, but nodded my head. “Yeah, yeah.”

I started up the stairs, with the teenage boy following me quietly. Surprising huh? Ah, sarcasm is a wonderful thing.

I turned the light on in my room and quickly went to clean up slightly, pushing the dirty clothes that I kept on the floor into a corner. “Sorry for the mess.”

“Whatever,” he said, sitting down on the floor, taking out the book from his book bag.

I went to follow his lead, setting the bag on the bed, digging the book, as well as all my other homework, out of it. I collected everything else that I needed to do that night and put it on the empty table beside my bed.

“Do you, um, want anything to eat or drink before we start?”

“No.”

“Alright,” I sighed, sitting down across from Jeremy and opening the book to where Mrs. Colt had left us off. Just as I was about to start to read aloud, the phone in my room started to ring.

“Oh crap, sorry. Um, be right back?”

Not waiting for his reply, like he would have given any, I ran to the phone, picking it up. “Hello?”

Hey there Envy,

“Hey Scott. Is this important? I have some work to do.”

Good thing this isn’t a social call then huh? I wanted to know what you did with the scheduling log.

“I left it on Bob’s desk, like he told me.”

No, what you left here is some essay or whatever. By the way, congrats on getting a 95% on it.

Furrowing my brows, I looked through the stack of homework that I had pulled out. There, in the middle, was the thick scheduling log.

“Aw crap, I’m sorry Scott. You know how much work I had to get done for school the next day, I must have mixed it up with the scheduling log when he asked for it. I'll stop by after school tomorrow and drop it off."

I guess that’ll work, just don’t forget it. We only have one copy of that.

“Okay, and once again, really sorry.”

Don’t worry about it. See ya later.

“Bye,” I said, hanging up the phone.

I turned back to Jeremy, who was staring at me. “Sorry about that, mix up at work.”

“You get kind of busy, huh?” he asked, which shocked me.

“Um, yeah, I do. Between homework and work, everything starts to blend together.”

Jeremy smiled, a completely gorgeous smile, which made me want to blush. “I guess your life isn’t as perfect as I thought it was.”

“What do you mean?” I questioned, confused, sitting back down in my seat. Jeremy made a 180 in his attitude, once being all grumpy, and now happy and chipper.

A shy smile graced his lips and he went to scratch his neck. “Well, I thought you were this girl who had everything in life going for her, with all the friends, who had talent and had never experienced anything negative. I kind of wanted to damper your perfect life by being an ass, and I’m sorry about that.”

I stared at him for a while, my brown eyes meeting his mix matched ones. I started to laugh lightly, taking in everything he said. “No, my life isn’t as perfect as you thought it was. I was wondering why you were so, well, moody? I didn’t think I was that bad to work with.”

“You’re the perfect partner actually.”

“How about we start over? I’m Envy Moore.”

“Jeremy Flats.”

“Hey, what’s up with you V?” Roxy asked me when she made it to the lunch table the next day. As of right now, it was only the two of us, waiting for everyone else to show up.

“Drake isn’t here, hasn’t been for the past two days.”

“Worried?”

“Actually,” I corrected, “I’m kind of pissed off. Even if he’s sick he could at least call me and tell me what’s going on. Give me one excuse to why he can’t even call me.”

The smaller girl thought deeply about it for a moment, thinking through a bunch of situations. After a couple of quiet minutes, she shrugged her shoulders. “Okay, I understand your agitation. I can’t think of anything.”

“Thank you.”

“How are you two lovely ladies doing?” I heard Frank ask from behind me before he sat down next to me, just like yesterday.

“Envy is having boyfriend problems.”

“They’re not problems,” I defended, but I couldn’t really think of anything else to call it. “More like… complications?”

“Same thing. Drake hasn’t been here for the past two days and Envy doesn’t know why and it’s pissing her off that he hasn’t called to tell her anything.”

“Well,” Frank said, “I’ll be your fill in boyfriend for the day!”

“Say what?”

The boy’s hand intertwined with mine, squeezing lightly. He gave me a smile and kissed my cheek. “How is my awesome girlfriend doing today?”

“Um…” Bert said, slowly making his way over to us. He seemed highly confused. “When did you guys get together?”

“Frankie is pretending to be her boyfriend since her real one isn’t here.”

“It’s a shame that such a beautiful lady can go unattended for even a moment!” my ‘boyfriend’ exclaimed dramatically. Even if he didn’t mean anything that he just said, it still caused me to blush deeply.

“You shut up, you’re embarrassing me.”

All I got back from him was a cheeky grin. I sighed, but continued to hold the smaller boy’s hand. It was pretty soft for someone who played a guitar like he did.

“Did you guys hear about the Homecoming dance coming up?” Roxy announced once everyone had reached the lunch table.

“No, but I was waiting for them to announce it, it’s always in October,” Taylor answered.

“What’s the theme this year Rox?” Dan asked.

“I think it was Spanish Fiesta or something like that.”

“Mmm,” Jepha mumbled, “girls in tight, Spanish dresses dancing the tango. That’s going to be so hot.”

“Wow, you’re a pervert,” I told him. He stuck his tongue out at me.

“Can you even tango?” Quinn asked him.

“Well… no! But I bet you can’t either!”

“I can tango actually. I took a Spanish dancing class when I was little.”

“Me too!” I said, smiling at the blond, “You’ll have to save me a dance.”

“Will do.”

Frankie put his other arm around my waist, pulling me closer to him. “Stop flirting with my girlfriend of the day.”

“Are you really going to keep up with this?”

“Pretty much.”

The rest of lunch passed by with little incident, which was kind of boring. After quite a while, the bell telling us to head off to sixth period rang, making everyone start to grab their things and leave. I threw my backpack over my shoulder, about to walk away.

“You’re not even going to say goodbye?” Frankie asked me.

“Um, goodbye?”

“Not good enough.”

He marched over to me, playfully angry. He couldn’t keep his face though and ended up smiling. I shook my head at him, wondering what he had walked over here for. He soon answered my question.

His hands slowly went towards my face, caressing my skin before he kissed me gently. His tongue went out to lick my lips, running a hand through my hair, as if he wanted me to kiss back. If he did, he didn’t wait for it, moving back before I could. And trust me, I was just about to.

“That’s how you say bye.”

What was with this kid and kissing me?! He did that almost as much as running into me!
