Thanksgiving With The Family

"Greg, get out of the kitchen! And don't touch the carrot cake until it's time for dinner!"

"That was Morgan, not me!"

I glared at the retreating back of the lying twin, watching as he plopped himself next to his brother. "You can't pull that trick anymore now that you're not identical!"

"Come on Envy, leave the boys to their goofing off. Hand me the garlic salt? These mashed potatoes are tasteless," my aunt said, scrunching her face after tasting the apparently bland potatoes. I laughed and handed her the salt before continuing to watch as the Turkey cooked. Heaven forbid I turned my back on it for three seconds and it burst into flame. It would be my luck.

Today was Thanksgiving, the reason I was slaving over food in the hot confines of the kitchen. Unlike the other males in the house, who were out in the living room being the lazy bums they are, Opa was in the kitchen with Tracy and I, finishing off his famous apple pie with a dollop of whipped cream on the top.

My stomach was already aching in a hungry rumble at the thought of consuming a piece of the rich pie.

The timer for the bird in the oven went off, causing me to jump in surprise. I wrapped my hand in a towel and took the heavy bird out as quickly as possible, in hopes of not burning myself, before turning off the oven. I inhaled the scent that had taken over the room and groaned in pleasure at the smell of it.

"Wow Envy, that looks amazing. You did a pretty good job for your first thanksgiving dinner."

I grinned over at Opa, taking his compliment with a proud blush. "Thanks Opa, I kind of had to do it myself seeing as someone felt like being a lazy bum this year!" I yelled, making sure that my dad could hear the last part of the conversation.

"I love you too V!" was his reply while I cursed him in my mind.

"Is there anything I can do V?" I heard the adorable voice of Tyler ask as he walked into the kitchen, his large and innocent eyes glancing up at his mother.

"Why don't you get your brother's to help you set the table? They need to do something other than laze around."

"Mom!" the twin's groaned in unison from the living room while Tracy laughed.

"Get to it boys!"

I heard them shuffle to the table, grumbling as they did so, and Tyler skipped out of the kitchen so he could help with the set up. I couldn't help but smile at them all.

"You have some great kids Tracy," I said, turning to her while she poured the potatoes into a regular bowl. A smile lit her face while she nodded.

"Don't I know it. You're an amazing kid yourself V, even though you're not a child anymore."

She brushed a hand through my hair, the smile dimming slightly as she thought of something. She let the hand fall to her side, and I had wondered what had gotten into her.

"You look so much like Juliana every time that I see you. You must miss her so much."

I nodded my head, remembering the holidays that my mother, father, and I had shared with them before my mother passed on. Ever since then, Holidays had been hard. But, at least we had never been alone.

This update (no matter how crappy) is all because of Pixie Stick. Maybe if you all dig a little deeper you'll find out why.

Not in the best of moods, so the wait for the next, more interesting chapter might be the same as for this one.
