Let My Heart Rest In Pieces 061

Preparation

"I don't understand how people can survive in this weather!" I exclaimed with chattering teeth, rushing into the parking lot of the school. The sooner I got into my car with the heat, the better. Taylor and Roxy, who were following behind me, only laughed at me.

"You're just being a sissy. It's not even that cold."

I whipped around at that, glaring at each of them with everything that I had, which wasn't much because I was so damn cold, and stomped my foot. "Are you kidding me? There's snow on the ground. When the temperature is so cold that your lips freeze together, it is way more than cold."

They looked at me weirdly, but said nothing on my comment. I had baffled them with my intellect. Well, not really, but it was nice to think so. I again rushed towards the van, getting the keys and quickly unlocking the doors so I could jump in. Soon, the heat was blasting and I sighed in happiness.

"God, I have to admit, it feels amazing in here," Taylor sighed, closing the sliding door with a slap and shedding her jacket, letting the warm air flow across her skin. Roxy sat in the front with me, rubbing her hands together and smiling.

"Alright, now that we are warmed up, to the mall!"

Yes, us three girls were headed to the mall, but it wasn't a social thing. Unfortunately, I had to find some kind of Santa themed costume to wear for the Winter Concert, which was in a week and a half. Time had flown by since we had been informed about it, and it seemed like that day had only been yesterday.

Thankfully, in this huge mall that they had here, there was an all year Halloween/ Costume store for any of your dress up needs. I was hoping, since it was December, that they would have a huge supply of Christmas things, and not just left overs from Halloween and whatever they had packed for Thanksgiving.

On the way to the mall, I cranked up the stereo and we all sang to the tunes on the radio in our worst voices. All and all, we sounded completely horrible, but it didn't matter because we were all having fun.

The race inside the large building was so hectic. Now that we had gotten used to the warmth of the van, we had forgotten that it was absolutely freezing outside. How, I did not know, seeing as the only sight we could see was the flakes falling from the sky and hitting the windshield. But, we had forgotten about it, so we had to race to take cover behind the glass doors. On the way there, I fell down, not being used to the icy sidewalks, and fell hard.

While Roxy and Taylor laughed their asses off in the cold, I screamed bloody murder and scrambled up, shaking off the snow that had clung to me, and ran inside. "Damn it, this is so my luck!"

"Oh my God! Did you see that Roxy? It was like slow motion when she fell and, oh God!"

The two went into another fit of giggles while I stood there with a pout on my face, rubbing my now soaked butt and side where the snow had melted into the material. I, personally, did not find it funny whatsoever.

"Yeah, let's pick on the poor California girl who can barely survive in this cold weather. You New Jersey people are so cruel."

The girls ignored me, as I had learned they did a lot with me, and linked their arms through mine and forced me to walk throughout the mall with them. The costume store was on the other side of the mall, seeing as that was my luck, and we strutted through the walkways like we were the hottest stuff on the block.

"I hate malls, people don't know how to walk. They're either on the wrong 'lane' and bumping into the other people, or they're walking too slow and hold us all up."

"Envy, when did you become such a complainer?"

Turning my head over my shoulder so I could see who was talking, I couldn't help but smile at Jeremy. "I've always been one, that's one of my greatest skills."

"But all we want in silence from you," Roxy teased. Once again, I pouted while they all laughed at me. I was starting to feel very unloved, but I forgot all about that when I saw the store we came here for right in reach. The main theme in the store was red, white, and green, and I let out a sigh of relief.

"Thank God, they have things that I can use!"

While I ran off into the store, I heard Jeremy ask, "What exactly is she looking for?"

I let my two friends explain it to him while I dived into the racks of costumes. I was amazed at how many styles for a simple red and white dress they had, but I was even more flabbergasted at the length of some of them, or rather, the lack of length.

When the other three had caught up to me, I held up the one that I had found to be the shortest, pointing to the picture. "Can you believe this? It's like undergarments! Never mind the fact that you're not leaving much to the imagination, can you think of how cold you would be in this if you even looked outside? I say no."

"No one said you had to wear it," Jeremy said, rolling his mix matched eyes as he started to slowly look through the costumes. I had an inkling feeling that he was mostly looking at the models instead of what was in the bag, but I didn't call him out on it.

"One about this one?" Tay said, turning to me and showing me a large bag. I looked at the picture for only a second and gave her an 'are you kidding?' look.

"The song is Santa Baby, Taylor. I'll look like an old lady in that thing."

Roxy agreed, only nodding her head, and went back to looking. There were a lot more male costumes than there was females, which I could totally understand, so we had a hard time finding one that could fit me and the song. It couldn't be too long, because that wasn't what the song was implying, and it couldn't be too short, because the dressing had to be at least close to dress code.

After thirty minutes of looking, fifteen of those minutes consisting of us goofing off, Jeremy finally found one that I thought was perfect. As soon as I looked at it, I knew it was perfect. I felt the material it was made out of, and it wasn't cheap cotton. It felt very soft against my skin, and the white puff felt as soft as fur.

I tried it on, and once I stepped out of the dressing room, I got whistles from them. I gave them all a wink, and an 'innocent' look, which set them off more.

"That thing totally fits you," Taylor said, "but, you can't go wearing sneakers with that."

"Don't worry, my dear friend. I found shoes a long time ago. They would just be a pain to put on right now."

I showed them the box, and they all approved of the selection. After grabbing a few more accessories to complete the costume, we were off to walk back to the car. Only, we didn't walk as fast towards the exit as we had when coming in here.

"I am totally going to this thing. I can't wait to see you all dressed up in this," Jeremy teased, giving me a wink and swatting my butt.

I stuck my tongue out at him and moved in closer and sang in a soft voice, "Santa baby, so hurry down the chimney tonight."
