Winter Party Begins

Why was it that Winter Break, no matter where you were in the country, always felt like it wasn't the full two or so weeks that it was? Why was it that these fun days of lazing around had to die? I wondered this as I stared out my window, looking at the snow softly falling to the ground. I really couldn't believe that this vacation was almost over and I was going to be forced to go back to school.

But I was going to enjoy every second of it. Because if vacation was speeding by like this, then so was the rest of this school year. And what the hell was I supposed to do after I graduated?

"Envy! Jeremy's here!"

I snapped out of the little trance that the white snowflakes had put me into and stood up, about to run down to see my friend. Giving myself one last look in the mirror, I rushed down the carpeted stairs, barely making any noise as I came into the living room. I saw Jeremy standing by the door, looking a little chilled, but happy all the same. I hugged the boy to me, but squealed when he put his cold hands on my back.

"Jeremy, you're freezing!" I gasped, jumping away from him while he just laughed.

"It's Winter in New Jersey, what do you expect?" the teen teased. I glared at him while I slipped on my shoes, and at the same time putting on the nice, warm beanie Frank had gotten me. With a goodbye to my dad, as well as a promise of keeping safe, Jeremy and I ran to his car, trying not to slip on the ice that had formed on the concrete.

"Did I ever tell you how much I hate this place and this weather?" I hissed, cranking up the heat and sighing in relief when it hit my face.

"Yeah, but you know you would miss me if you moved away."

With a look at the driver, I couldn't help but snort. He turned and gave me a very hurt look after having safely backed out of my drive way. His lips were set in a pout, and it only continued when I started to laugh at him.

"Why am I friends with you?" Jeremy asked, "Get out of my car! You're walking to the party!"

"No," I whined, hanging onto the car door while the boy pushed me against it, "don't kick me out! It's freezing out there; I would die!"

Jeremy continued to drive—yes, he had been doing all of this while driving. Completely safe, is it not?—and looked like he had a contemplating expression on his face. I jutted out my bottom lip, giving him the famous puppy dog look. Every now and then he would glance over at me. Finally, he sighed and nodded his head.

"Fine, I won't throw you out to face your fate."

"Aw, I love you!" I shouted, leaning over and giving him a sloppy kiss on the cheek. He wiped it off, claiming I had "cooties". It didn't really matter, though, because a minute or so later, we were pulling into Frankie's driveway.

"Alright," Jeremy started, turning off the car, "on the count of three, we run. Got it?" I nodded, feeling the frozen air from outside start to chill my covered skin.

"One, two-"

"Go!" I shouted, running out of the car and slamming the door behind me. Laughing, I heard the teen boy do the same, crunching the snow as we ran. Thankfully, the door to Frank's house was unlocked, and the warmth welcomed us once we got inside.

The two of us rushing inside and slamming the door behind to keep the cold out had caught the attention of Linda, Frankie's mom. She poked her head out from the kitchen doorway, looking to see who had entered her home. When she saw me, a smile lit her face and she walked over.

"Oh Envy!" she exclaimed while hugging me, that beautiful grin still on her face, "It's been so long since I've seen you! How was your Christmas?"

I couldn't help but smile at her just as wide as she was at me, feeling at home in the older woman's arms. "It was wonderful, got to see all my family in California."

She listened to the short story, nodding her head to go along with it. When I was done, her eyes turned to look at Jeremy, someone she had never seen around here before. "And who is this handsome boy?"

"This loser is Jeremy," I teased. The boy glared at me, but gave the woman a hug when she offered it, leaving her arms with a smile.

"Is everyone in the living room Linda?"

"That they are, make yourselves at home. Hopefully the rest of the hoard will be here soon so I don't have to worry." She mumbled something else quietly before disappearing back into the kitchen. I shrugged my shoulders and made my way into the living room.

"Guess who's here!" I shouted.

"The entertainment, hopefully?" Roxy's voice asked boredly. When I spotted her lying on the couch, I noticed that her head way lying on the couch, eyes up to the ceiling.

"Wow," Jeremy said, looking at everyone in the room, which wasn't much because most of our friends weren't here, "this looks to be such an awesome party."

"Hey! Don't hate, or you don't get to join in on the surprise later," Frankie said from the chair across the room, his girlfriend sitting placidly in his lap.

I was about to question what this "surprise" was going to be, but was interrupted when Linda walked into the living room. She was wiping her hands on a dish towel, remnants of what she had made still on them.

"Alright kids, I'm going to be heading off now. I want you all to have fun, but don't destroy the house, okay? And Frankie, you're responsible for everything that happens in this house, so your ass is on the line. Bye everyone!"

"Bye Linds!" the small crowd shouted at the same time, making the woman laugh as she left the house. Everything was quiet while we listened as her car pulled out of the driveway.

"Now what?" Mikey asked, apparently not being as clued in on this whole party thing like Frank was.

"Just give it some time guys, you all have no patience!" the small boy huffed loudly, making Tamara jump.

"Jesus babe, that was my ear," she complained, giving him a glare before moving to sit on the love seat next to Mikey.

"So, where the hell are the rest of the boys? This place seems empty without them," Taylor questioned from next to Gerard.

"They said they would all be here later, the ones that I'm worried about-"

"Yo, open the door, it's Bob and Ray!" Sugar Ray's sing songy voice yelled through the front door.

Mikey jumped up from his seat and ran to the door, opening it for the two older men. I was wondering why they needed the help of opening the door when it was clearly unlocked, but that question was answered then the two men, and Mikey, came into the house with their hands full of brown paper bags.

"Sweet, we're getting smashed!"

Yes, because alcohol with this group was always the best of ideas.
