Let My Heart Rest In Pieces 008

Seven Hour Wait

Today was finally Friday, and the first week of school was over and done with. I was now at my new locker, which I had acquired on Wednesday, throwing all my unneeded junk haphazardly into it.

“The week is over! Now we can enjoy our first school weekend!” Roxy sang, getting into her own locker next to mine.

“Thank the Lord in Heaven; I never thought I would miss sleeping in until school started.”

“Speaking of sleep, I could use a good nap right about now…”

“No naps my dear!” yelled Bert, throwing his arm over Roxy’s petite shoulders, “We have to go to Frank’s concert!”

“The show doesn’t start until nine,” Roxy said, ducking under the boy’s arm and putting her hands on her little hips. I snorted at that move, earning a glare from the girl.

“Yeah, and?”

“That’s seven hours away from now! Seven hours is plenty of time for a nap.”

“Besides being lame and taking a nap, do you have anything else to do in that span of time that we wait?”

“We’re girls,” Taylor voiced as she came up behind us, “we still have to go home and get ready.”

Bert rolled his eyes at us while we laughed at his expression.

“Well, I have to get going. I have homework to get done, and then get ready.”

“See you later Envy!”

I walked out the school doors, squinting as the sun hit my dark eyes. When they adjusted to the light, I saw my school mates chatting with friends or driving away to start their weekend plans.

As I walked down the street on my way home, I waved at a couple people I knew from classes. The farther away I got from the school, the quieter it got, giving my mind time to focus on little things around me. As I was looking at a little purple flower I passed by, a honking of a car horn caught my attention, almost scaring me into a heart attack. With my heart beating faster, I turned my head to see who had honked. There, waving out of the car window, was Mr. Sugar Ray himself.

“Hey Envy!”

“Ray, damn it, you almost gave me a heart attack! What is it with people and sneaking up on me?!”

“It’s not that hard, seeing as you’re so absent minded, and I’m in a car. Can you really call that sneaking?”

“Shut up,” I said, glaring at him before noticing that he was driving around three miles an hour to keep up with my pace of walking.

“What are you doing?” I questioned.

“I’m escorting you to your house.”

“In the car, while I walk?”

“Yes.”

I stopped, causing him to hit the brakes, and turned to face him. “Don’t you have somewhere to be?”

“Well, I was on my way to work-“

“Then get to it! I’ll see you at the concert later.”

“Yeah, see you there! Bye V!”

I shook my head, waving goodbye to him as he sped away. Ray was definitely a weird one, but I guess that’s why it was always so fun to hang around him.

I soon made it to my home, unlocking the door and throwing my bag in the corner. The house was empty, as usual, and I made my way towards the kitchen to root around in the refrigerator for food. Finding none, I pouted and grumbled. I would have to go hungry until I bought something at the mall.

I stretched my arms over my head and walked out of the room. As I was about to head upstairs to my room, the phone sang its annoying tune, telling me someone was wishing to speak to me.

“Hello?” I answered, holding the phone next to my ear.

“Hey Envy, it’s Gerard. Can you remind me what time Frank’s thing starts?”

“Well hey there Ger Bear. The concert starts at nine o’clock. Why didn’t you just ask Mikey, I’m sure he would know?”

“He went to hang out at the mall with the other guys.”

“The concert is six and a half hours away…”

“I know…” I could hear the eye roll in the way he said that.

“And I thought he was the smart one of the group.”

“Guess not. Thanks Envy, see you soon.”

“Ciao.”

I put the phone back into its cradle then wondered my way upstairs. Damn, if all of us were going to be there, plus the other band mates friends, there was going to be a hell of a lot of people there.

“Shit, what am I going to wear?”

~~~~~
Finally deciding on what clothes to wear, I looked at myself in the mirror of the bathroom.
My hair hung down to my shoulder blades like it usually did, with my bangs falling into my made up face. I had attacked my eyes with eyeliner and shadow and painted gloss onto my lips, making them shiny and plump. Trailing down my body, I wore a silver peace sign necklace that rested against my orange tank top. I had a pair of tight black jeans and a matching pair of black converse. When I walked down stairs, Dad gave me a whistle as I turned to model for him.
“My girl knows how to clean up,” he sighed dramatically, causing me to raise one of my brows in questioning.
“You usually say something like that when a girl’s on her way to Prom, not when she’s going to a mall concert.
He ignored my comment and threw me the keys to his van. “You better get going before you’re late and you make Frankie sad.”
As I ignored that comment, I caught the keys and pouted. “How am I supposed to look cool in a mini-van?”
“You can always walk.”
“On the other hand, I guess I’m cool enough to rock a van.”
I kissed my dad on the cheek, waving bye to him, and then walked to the car. I opened the door, sat in the seat, and put the keys in the ignition. I was then off to the mall where I would meet up with my friends.
~~~~~

“Damn, this mall is kick ass, there are two stories!” I exclaimed, looking at all the stores and all the unique people that came out of them.

“Pretty cool, isn’t it?” Taylor said proudly, like she had made the whole thing or something.

“I’ve seen bigger though. There was this one in Florida that had its own hotel and a two story coffee shop,” Roxy voiced in awe.

“Hey, there are the girls!”

The three of us turned around to see Gerard and Bert standing there, waving us over to them.

“Should we pretend we don’t know them?" Roxy suggested.

“That would probably be the smart thing to do, but I don’t think it would work.”

Us girls strolled over to them, giving each male a hug. “Where’s everyone else?”

“They saved us seats. Since this is a mall gig, no crowds or moshpits.”

The five of us walked to the performance space to see two tables pushed together in the front with six empty spaces. When we made it towards the rest of the boys, Jepha smirked in my direction.

“What?” I asked.

“This is the advantage of being here early. Front row seats.”

“I’m sure the band is great and all, but not great enough to warrant a seven hour wait.”

“Shush, they’re starting!”

We sat down as the lights faded away and focused onto the stage. The band members came out from behind a curtain and the whole crowd cheered. The lead singer walked up to the mic and leaned into it as he talked.

“Are you guys ready to party?”

More screaming issued from the audience and the boy smirked.

“Then let’s get this thing started!”

~~~~~
“That was a cool concert,” I replied as our group waited outside the mall for Frank to emerge.
“Fo sho, I didn’t even know that Frank was that good a backup singer.”
“He’s a man of many talents, if you know what I mean,” Bert said with a wink.
“No, I don’t know what you mean, and I don’t think I ever want to find out!” Taylor exclaimed, wrinkling her nose.
“You know the boy compensates his short height for something.”
“What, his big head?” Mikey joked.
“I don’t have a big head!” Frank yelled, glaring at his friend as he walked out the door, his guitar strapped to his back.
“I’m just teasing you bro.”
“What took you so long?" Bob asked, his light eyebrows raised in question.
“Oh yeah, I quit the band. It just wasn’t fun for me anymore.”
“Wow, that’s one way to nonchalantly put it…”
“You should find a new band before your playing skills get too rusty,” Dan voiced as we started towards the parking lot.
“Or you can start a new band.”
“Hell yeah, all of us could be in one band!” Jepha yelled excitedly.
“That’s one hell of a group. I thought the limit was, like, five or something? Plus, I don’t have any musical talent,” Roxy put in.
While everyone discussed the band idea, I just listened and looked around for the van.
“Hey Envy, can I get a ride from you? I took the bus here and there’s no more room in Ray’s car for me,” Frank asked, giving me the puppy eyes as if I was going to refuse him.
“Sure, although I thought you would have jumped at the idea of getting to sit on one of the guy’s laps.”
Frankie glared at me and playfully bumped my hip with his own.
“Time to split guys, hope we can hang like this some other time!”
“Bye.”
I unlocked the doors and sat down in the seat as Frank did the same on the passenger’s side. I turned on the car and soon we were zooming on the asphalt streets.
“We probably look stupid to the people around us,” Frank said, looking intently at the people that passed us.
“Why is that?”
“We’re two emo looking kids in a mini-van.”
“Psh, speak for yourself. I know I look damn cool,” I scoffed.
For the remaining ride home, we played a game where we would create a life for the people that we saw driving their cars, laughing our asses off as we did so.
“Okay, there you are sir, one free ride home,” I announced, parking in the driveway of Frank’s house.
“Free, huh? You’re not going to try and take advantage of me in the dark?” he said, in what seemed like all seriousness. This made me burst out into laughter and smile at him.
“You’ve been watching too many porn; that doesn’t happen in real life.”
“Damn, that’s always been one of my fantasies.”
“You’re so stupid,” I replied with an eye roll.
“Well, I know one way I can repay you.”
“And how is that?”
If my eyes hadn’t been opened, I probably wouldn’t have believed what he did next. His face came closer to mine and then his lips touched my own for a split second. Even in that nano second, I could taste the flavor of his lips. It was a mix between mint and smoke, which wasn’t that bad.
“I’ll be seeing you then.”
Without waiting for my reply, he got out of the car and calmly walked into his home.
I sat there in the car for a few minutes before my brain truly registered what had happened.
Frank Iero had kissed me.
