Letters From Jack

Running

She just looked at him and shook her head. She slowly moved herself off the bed and then walked over to him. He looked confused as she approached, but she didn't care. She needed to be near him. She wrapped her arms around him and laid her head on his chest. His arms dangled down by his side lifelessly. He didn't know what to do.

"Jack," She whispered, "Why won't you give me a chance?"

He looked down at her and groaned, as he gently shoved her away, "Don't you realize what you're doing? What you're asking for?"

"I'm just asking for a chance!"

"LOOK AT ME." He said, and then pointed around the room, "Look at this room! You don't want this, Zoey. You're a fucking model for God's sake!"

"My career has nothing to do with this!"

"You don't think it might put a bit of a damper on your career to be known as the girl whose chasing after the Joker?"

She just crossed her arms over her chest not really knowing what to say. She just turned around and didn't look at him. He had left her speechless and she really didn't want to face him at the moment. She looked over towards the shelf next to his bed and saw something that belonged to her. She began walking over and then picked up her locket, which was now broken.

"You broke my locket!" She yelled, after inspecting the locket.

He looked at her with a raised eyebrow. He had forgot all about the gold locket. After his attempt to take it back to her failed, he just placed it on his shelf and hadn't had another thought about it. He studied her facial expression, and saw how angry she looked. He didn't say anything.

"Jack!" She said, walking over to him. "You. Broke. My. Locket." She said, saying each word slowly just as he sometimes did. He couldn't help but to smirk at her. Sometimes she was a mirror image of himself.

"I did." He said softly.

"You. . . you. . . you better fix it!" She said.

He couldn't help but to laugh. At first he thought she was going to say something horrible to him, but he should have known better. He didn't think Zoey was capable of saying something mean.

"I don't think so."

"Fix it!"

"I can't fix it! I broke the chain part."

She frowned, and then looked at him, and he could see her eyes watering. "I really liked my locket." She said.

He sighed, "It was just a memory of the past."

"That's what I liked about it." She said looking him in the eyes, "I want to remember my past, Jack. I want to remember you. I want to remember every single day we spent together. It wasn't my choice to leave. I never would have left you!"

He looked at her and reflected on the words she had just said. She had said she never would have left him, but could he trust her? The entire reason he thought it would be good for them to not stay in touch was not only because it was dangerous for her, but he didn't want to lose her again. After kissing her, and knowing that the chemistry was there, even stronger now than before, he knew he couldn't deal with her just up and leaving again. That would destroy him.

"I'll have your locket fixed." He whispered.

She shook her head, "It isn't just about the locket, Jack! It's about you running away."

"I'm not running away from anything." He snapped.

"You're running away from me."

"I brought you back here, didn't I?" He hissed.

"Only because you had no other choice." She spat back.

He sighed. She wasn't scared of him in the least bit. She would give him hell right back. He laughed silently realizing he had met his match.

"What are you laughing about?" She asked in an annoyed tone, as she crossed her arms over her chest.

"You've always been so damn stubborn."

"I'm not being stubborn, I'm just standing my ground."

"You do realize who you're standing your ground against, correct?" He asked.

"I do realize, Jack. I'm not scared of you."

He nodded his head, and walked over to her. He figured she might move at least an inch or flinch, but she never. He smiled, as he placed his arms on her shoulder's, "You're not scared of me?" He asked looking down at her.

She bit on her bottom lip and shook her head, even though she was a tiny bit scared.

He nodded his head, and then chewed on the inside of his cheek. He then focused on the beauty standing only inches away from him. He leaned down and placed his mouth against her ear, "Good, because you have no reason to be scared." He whispered, and then backed away from her and starred down into her piecing blue orbs.

"Are you done running?" She whispered.

"I was never running, I was just protecting."

"There's nothing to protect."

"This is dangerous." He warned her.

She smiled, and leaned up to him, "A risk I'm willing to take." She said, right before brushing her lips against his.
