She Loves Me, He Hates Me

Start of a Weird Night

People started to show up at Abby’s house around eight and went to the back room of Abby’s house. It used to be the garage until her parents wanted more room in the house and converted it into a giant living room with clean white walls, ping pong table, giant flat screen on the wall with an assortment of gaming systems from classic Play Station and Xbox 360, to her Wii. Rock Band was already set up, waiting to be played with. A little bit of party music played on the TV while people came in, gave hugs and ‘hi’s’ and sat on the comforting white furniture which was a wrap around couch and a single white chair on the outside which no one really used at all.

Most people made it in by at least nine, all but Johnny and Zach who seemed to have been delayed. Jackie was sitting on the couch with the other party goers who sat with drinks on their laps and talking to people next to them and across the room. Some couples cuddled and the socially awkward waited for the starting of Rock Band. Jackie got a little nervous. What if he never showed up and it was all a waste? What if he didn’t care? She tried to clear her mind and thought of car trouble or accidentally taking a nap on his couch but then waking to realize what time it was. That’s when they finally walked in, fashionable late of course. She should have thought about that first.

“Johnny!” Abby screamed as she ran from the ping pong table over to the door to squeeze him into a huge hug. Jackie wasn’t worried; it was just Abby’s way. But that little jealous part of Jackie started to whisper to her. ‘You know, she could just being using your connections to get to him. Or worse, she wants to take him because she knows that you like him.’ She told her head to shut up. Abby has been a really good friend and she wouldn’t be able to do that to her.

Abby turned to Zach and gave him a little lingering hug. She looked a little nervous which is something Jackie had never seen her do before. Maybe she has the hots for this guy? Jackie started to walk up to Johnny, but he bolted over to the fake drum set for Rock Band and sat down taking out his own drum sticks that stuck out of his shoes. He always cared them there and Jackie was pretty sure they had names. But she needed a closer look to figure that out which she planned to do right then.

“Who wants to party!?!” Johnny yelled as if talking to a crowd at BG’s waiting for Abelard’s Secret to start their show. Everyone screamed, yelled, hooted and hollered. Abby set up the Wii and the screen flashed on to the Rick Band Symbol and music flowing in the background. People started to pick up the cheap little plastic instruments and sat back on the couch again. Johnny was obviously on drums and picking the song. Abby got the mic out, Aaron stuck to guitar, but they were short a bass player.

“Come on Jackie, grab the bass!” Abby smiled at her. Jackie didn’t know the first thing about this game. Of course she has watched it, but she never wanted any part of it. Jackie shook her head no and she blushed a little. She wanted to be near Johnny, but was too scared to try to do so. The bass was then given to Emmy, who was embarrassed to play as well, but got the guts to grab the bass and sat next to Johnny on the couch. He turned and smiled at her and asked what song would she like to play. She was reluctant but gave an answer in the end. Jackie zeroed in on her, wondering what Emmy was up to. She looked really pretty in the purple velvet and black lacey top. And skinny jeans on. Her hair was pretty straight minus the little ends of her hair that always had a natural curl at the end. That’s when Jackie felt ridiculous in her teal t-shirt with the Kanye West bear with lined glasses on. Her hair was straight with a little bow in her hair as well. And here was Emmy looking really good next to Johnny. This night was going to be difficult.
