Late
My mom and I finally got to eat together. Its been so long since we just sat at the table to eat and talk without distractions. Like, I knew she was super busy but I kind of missed just hanging out with her, as weird as it sounds. Sons aren't exactly programed to want to hang out with their moms.
"Any plans for college yet?" she asked as she handed me a plate full of vegetarian lasagna. I froze in panic. I had been so caught up with The Crew and the new kid that i completely forgot to apply to colleges!
"Aw shit!" I cursed.
"Frank...?" she gave me a warning look.
"Sorry but I totally forgot and now I can't get in!" guilt and regret began to kick in.
"I'm sure there's still time sweetheart."
"Mom, Its already March, people are getting accepted now, not applying!" I dropped my head on the table and groaned.
"Frank dear, your hair is in your lasagna." my mom sighed. I lifted my head and pushed my plate away.
"I don't care, I'm fucked!"
"Frank, please stop swearing! What's gotten into you?"
"Well lets see, I'm screwed for my future and um.. I'm screwed!" I started to get choked up. How could me, the star student with an edge, suddenly forget to apply for college? Now I was doomed and I would have to get a crappy job with minimum wage at like.... Burger King! I'm a vegetarian for fuck sakes! I couldn't handle handing out slabs of dead cow everyday of my pathetic life!
"Frank, your mumbling to yourself." my mom interrupted my thoughts.
"I'm screwed!"
"Hey, this could be a year off." she offered. "As long as afterwards you apply for a good college and get a good job to support your old mother. Besides, why don't you travel the world with your friends during that time?" she smiled encouragingly.
"I don't have the cash." I groaned.
"I'll pay for it." she rested her hand over mine. I stared at her.
"No way, you can't do that!"
"Oh shut up." my jaw dropped. "These are the last few years you have before you have to work as much as I do. Its not the time to have a quarter life crisis, that comes later. Just enjoy yourself. I'll pay for whatever trip you take but not your friends."
"Thanks mum!" I threw my arms around her in a big hug.
"Anytime Frankie, now eat your dinner." she smiled.

Sorry its later then normal for an update, the day has been insane! Like, my classes got shuffled around and argghh!
