All I Ever Wanted

Ladder

Jake as waiting outside the school when I left. I couldn't help but smile. He was trying to look cool, leaning against a tree. He had a smirk plastered on his face.

Many of the girls were staring at him as they walked past.

I hurried over to him, hoping to send them a message.

"Hey Jake."

Jake looked over confused. His confusion disappeared immediately.

"What's wrong? Do you not want me to call you Jake? I can stop-"

"No. I like being called Jake. It's just that Bella's the only one girl that's called me it."

I couldn't help but flinch at Bella's name. She had caused my pain. I could never forgive her for that. Jake noticed my expression and frowned.

"Bella-"

"Doesn't mean anything. I know." I whispered resting my forehead against his chest.

He wrapped his arms around me, pulling me closer. He rested his head against the top of mine.

I suddenly felt Jake shaking. I pulled away quickly, fearing the worst.

But he wasn't shaking in anger. He was laughing quietly.

"What?" I demanded.

"You're really short." He said between laughs.

"I'm not short." I defended. "You're freakishly tall."

He put his hands up in defense. He was trying to hold in his laughter. A smile on his face the entire time.

"Okay." He agreed.

"You better agree." I stated crossing my arms.

"Let's get you home." He said pulling me to him again.

"Why?"

"I like you and want to spend time with you. Getting on your bothers bad sides isn't going to help me accomplish that." He said without missing a beat.

I smiled and began pulling him towards the house.

Robbie and Kenny were outside when we got their.

Jake was extremely tense. Not sure of if him being on their turf would piss them off or not.

Kenny looked over towards and waved. He was holding the ladder that Robbie was standing on. He waved us over, not trusting Robbie by himself.

I dragged Jake over. He was a little reluctant.

"Hi guys." I greeted once we were over.

"Hi!" Robbie shouted from the top of the ladder.

He let go to wave down at us. His grip wasn't as tight as it should have been. He started drifting away from the ladder.

"Robbie!" I shouted noticing.

Kenny's attention went back to Robbie.

Robbie had to drop the paint bucket and brush to get a hold of the ladder again. I didn't see where the bucket landed, not really caring. It took Robbie a few seconds to get steady. I took a deep breath to calm myself.

I looked over at Kenny. I couldn't help but laugh.

He was covered in paint. The paint bucket had hit him. Or at least half of him was. His entire right side was covered with the blue paint.

Jake was trying not to laugh.

Kenny groaned and wiped the paint away from his eyes.

"Laugh it up lovebirds." Kenny mumbled.

We both stopped laughing instantly.

"Go get washed up." I order taking hold of the ladder.

Kenny looked from me to Jake a few times before walking into the house. I glanced over at Jake smiling. He had a small smile on his face, unsure of if he should be smiling or not.

I heard Robbie breathing heavily from above.

"Robbie are you okay?"

"Yeah." His voice was quiet.

"You don't sound okay."

"I want to get down but can't move. I'll never mock Jerry again."

I couldn't help but laugh. It was sad, yet funny. He was clutching the ladder tightly. I could see his veins stretched against his muscles.

"Kenny will be out in a minute. He'll help you down."
