And Oh, did Maman ever love Mr. and Mrs. Berlachaux. They insisted on paying for everything before Maman had even taken off her coat! Que pouvez-vous faire? What can you do? Of course Mr. and Mrs. Berlachaux had invited us for tea that afternoon and I had to brief Maman in the car ride over to their house. "D'accord Maman, tu dois être poli là, j'adore ce garçon et si ses parents me haïssent et je ne peux pas être en couple avec lui car de toi, ma vie va échouer, pas de mensonge." "Okay Mom, you have to be polite there, I adore this boy and if I can't be with him because his parents hate me because of you, my life will fail, no lie."

"Ta vie ne va pas 'échouer' et tu le sais." "You're life's not going to 'fail' and you know it."

"Si! S'il te plaît, Maman, soit poli." "Yes! Please, Mom, be polite."

"D'accord, d'accord, tu sais que je déteste regarder un garçon pleure." "Fine, fine, you know I hate to see a boy cry."

"Merci, Maman." "Thanks, Mom." And she was on her best behavior. When François the butler showed us in, she gave him her coat, after being assaulted with, "N'y va une question, on va payer!" "There's no question, we're going to pay!", and we had an absolutely lovely afternoon. Ricky and I just kind of sat around and talked, but Maman and Mr. and Mrs. Berlachaux had an absolute gab-fest. I'm serious! They talked about everything from doorknobs to the price of tea in China! But they seemed to have hit it off very well, which was according to Ricky's plan. Ricky plan is something along these lines:

1. Meet the perfect guy - accomplised
2. Parents like said boy - accomplised
3. Meet Parents of the boy - accomlised
4. Take boy and parents to dinner - in the process of accomplishing
5. If they're not crazy, date for a million years, fall in love and get married! - not accomplised (yet!)

I don't know, he's quite strange sometimes.
