The Lies of Molly Ringwald

A Serious Converstaion

Our awkward little group dressed in formal wear made our way into James house. James eyeing us all suspiciously. I walked down the hall way and into the living room where I flopped on to the couch next to Isabel. I put my feet up on the coffee table and smiled a wicked smile at James who was sitting on the love seat across from me on the other side of the room. “So we need to have a serious conversation," I said to no one in particular, but I looked poignantly in the sky blue eyes of James, Even after a year, four months and two days of hating him and calling him terrible names, those blue eyes, framed with the long ebony lashes could still make my heart pound, and my cheeks flush.

“What about?" James asked cocking his head to the side.

“Just what in the hell are we going to do?"

“Stay here and hide?" Elizabeth suggested.

“Yeah and let them take over the world? No thank you!" I answered as I stood and began to pace.

“Okay so what do we know about the aliens?" Trent asked.

“None of you guys are one," James said, “Or at least you better not be,” he added in an under tone.

“They tried to infect me and Audrey, but they couldn't," Jeremy said.

“Okay so what is different about you two?" I asked.

“Well when the thing tried to crawl up our nose it died."

“Did you guys by any chance snort pills before prom, because you couldn't show up
wasted?" I asked, looking questioningly at the biggest pill head in my high school.

“Yeah,” Jeremy said looking up at me.

“What happened to the thing that they tried to infect you with?” I asked looking at Jeremy.

“It didn't want to go up my noses, well it tried to but it crawled back out of my nose and then it
like had a seizure and it died."

“How do you know it was a seizure?" James asked a hint of sarcasm in his voice.

“Stop being a smartass," Isabel said to James.

“So vicoden kills it," I said,” That important."

“Should we be taking note?” James asked looking up at me his eyes dull with a forced
boredom and indifference. I ignored his sarcasm , I didn’t even bother to glance at him and roll my eyes, no why should I give him that satisfaction.

“Why?" Trent asked, we all looked at him as if he were insane, “No why, does it kill it?"

“Well it’s a pain killer and it affects the nervous system, so it must be poisons to the
nervous system of the alien parasite," I said.

“So we know how to kill it," James said looking up at me, “That’s good right?”

“Weed," Isabel said suddenly looking up as if she had been in deep thought and had been
thinking about something very hard.

“What?" Jeremy asked.

“Weed, Jacob smoked before prom , but it when they tried to turn him, it didn't take it crawled
out like ten minutes later."

“Did it die?"

“No, but he stepped on it and squashed it like a bug, it made a really nasty popping sound it
was gross." We all rolled our eyes Isabel was constantly going off on tangents like that.

“So we know, that the alien parasite won't take if your high," Davey said, his head was resting on his hand that was propped on the arm of the couch.

“But why?" Elizabeth asked, “The pills make since but weed?"

“It’s because it doesn't kill brain cells," Isabel said suddenly.

“That a miss conception," I said, smiling, knowing exactly where Isabel was going with this.

“I just coat the brain cells." Isabel, finished.

" Jenkins was good for something," I said, Mr. Jenkins was the cool teacher at our school, he was one of the Drama club advisors , and we were pretty sure that he was a former pot head. Over the past few weeks Isabel and I had been sitting in the library working on a final project during his conference time and we would carry on conversations with at the 'cool table'.

“Hey he was cool,"James said.

“Nobody said he wasn't" I said bitterly.

“So what is our brilliant plan?" Davy asked.

“Plan?” Elizabeth asked a little shocked.

“Why do we have to have a plan?” Jeremy asked.

“Yeah, I mean won’t the government figure something out? I mean don’t they always in the
movies?” Elizabeth asked her voice becoming slightly frantic.

“Elizabeth has a point,” Jeremy said looking around at everyone.

“Not in all the movies,” I began, “ Most of the time it’s the few weirdos who aren’t infected
that figure something out, I mean this might not even be wide spread yet. I mean, they might
just be sending an advanced forced to see if Earth can be conquered this way. “

“So we need a plan to fight back!” Isabel said, “And prove that they can’t!”

“You just want to get back at them for having killed Jacob ,” Jeremy said.

“Well don’t you think that you should be fighting back? I mean they did kill Audry, not like the
rest of us are really concerned with that but you did say you loved her,” Isabel retorted her
voice rising as she stood.

“Don’t start bad talking her, I did love her,” Jeremy said through gritted teeth as he stood.

“Hey I think that you need to calm down just a little bit,” I said stepping between the two.

“Maybe since, were all that’s left human, or alive, we should, you know maybe get along or
something,” Davy suggested as he too stood.

“Okay I think that we should all just sit down, and calm down,” I said looking around the
room at my friends. Davy was the first to sit, then Isabel. Jeremy looked at me as if he were
challenging me to a standing duel, grudgingly took his seat and then I took mine.

“So what’s the plan?” Trent asked.

“Good question.”

“Well kill them with pills and weed,” Isabel said brightly.

“Yeah but when? There would have to be a time when they were all together,” I said looking
at her.

“Graduation," James said looking up from the floor with his sky blue eyes.

“What?"

“Graduation, on Sunday everyone will be at graduation, we can go to graduation with a plan,
and kill them all."

“What do we do until Sunday?" Trent asked.

“Lay low here," James said shrugging.

“Was that an invitation?" I asked

“Yeah maybe it was." James spat back.

“I’m surprised you want me in your house."

“I didn't say I wanted you here but I was just being logical, why do you want to be here?”

“No why would I want to be in this hellhole with you? And why the hell would I want to spend
possibly my last few days on earth with you ?”

“Well if that’s the case then I take back the invitation for you but its still good for everyone
else.”

“Then where am I supposed to stay?”

“You can sleep with Gunner, in his dog house.”

“Haha,” I laughed sarcastically, “He’s your dog, be a gentleman and sleep with your own
dog, I mean you did let him lick…”

“Hey!” James shouted.

“Get a room you two," Isabel said rolling her eyes.

I closed my eyes, counted to ten and then continued. “But we have a real problem, the
vicoden," I said.

“Yeah how do we get that much vicoden?"Isabel asked. Oh how we were on the same wave
length.

“And just how do we get everyone to take that much vicoden?" I asked

“Just kill the leader," Davy said.

“And just who’s the leader? “James asked slightly annoyed.

“Rachel."

“Which Rachel?"

“The new girl Stoneridge."

“Why her?" Elizabeth asked.

“Duh it’s always the new girl, like in the movie The Facility," Isabel said.

“I never did put that no my Net Flix list," Trent said to me in an under tone.

“Oh , you should have, it was really good I really liked that movie, funny the Aliens in that movie bear a striking resemblance to ours,” I said drifting off into thought.

“So we need weed and pills?" Davy asked.

“We can bake some brownies. Some special brownies, and give them to people and then
even if they are infected they the alien bug will crawl out and they can help us fight,” Isabel offered.

“I actually like that idea and I have always wanted to make some hash brownies," I said.

“I can hook us up," Jeremy said standing," I need some money, and I'll go see my dealer. I
bet I can get a good deal, cause of the possibility of the end of the world, I'm buying in bulk,
and he and I are pals. Can I borrow the car Isabel?" I looked around Beth, Trent, and Isabel had started anteing up. Davy looked moderately shocked and James stood and walked into his bed room stoically and I was shocked when he returned with a wad of money and handed it to Jeremy, I followed suit, giving him all my birthday and graduation money or at least the what I had in my purse, which was still a hefty amount. I had been prepared for buying just such things or possibly something that carried a longer jail sentence that night.

“It’s a good thing that we live in the middle of nowhere, because drugs are so much cheaper here than they are in cities," Isabel said.

“Is that true?” I asked. “ I mean how would you know have you ever been to a city to buy drugs?” I asked looking at my best friend but she ignored me.

“Isabel, are you gonna let him borrow the car?" Elizabeth asked.

“Yeah," she said tossing him the keys .

Jeremy counted the money, " There's about," James appeared out of his portents bed room
and shoved another wad of money in Jeremy’s hand, " about $2,500 here," He turned to walk out the door.

"Gobstoppers," Isabel said suddenly.

“Something salty," I added.

“The munchies snack mix things those are good they hit the spot," Isabel said.

“Barbeque chips, lots I can eat a whole bag myself and chocolate, and you’re not going alone, Trent is going with you to prove that you are still you when you get back." I said.

“Be careful," Isabel said, " and I'm not talking about the aliens."

“Oh, Trent," Davy began,” Don't act like a douche bag, act cool, you don't want to get you and Jeremy killed, by the drug deal.”

“Wait what?” Trent shouted as Jeremy drug him out the door.
