It's No Fun on the Sidelines

Gleam in Their Eyes

I have never been so happy for someone in my life… well maybe when Todd won gold at X Games the first time. That was pretty exciting for him and me. But this is up there with that. Her back flip looked so perfect… if only her bike didn’t stale out at the landing. We should really check into that.

“I like that Shelia already,” Bilko smirked as Katie retreated to the house.

“You like any Shelia you see,” I teased.

“But you’re my favorite,” he smiled with his cheesy grin and raised eyebrows.

“Too bad I’m her favorite,” Todd smiled as he slid his arm around me. I smiled up at him and pecked him on the lips quickly.

“I hate to tell you this, mate, but she’s hiding something for you,” Bilko responded with an eyebrow crocked.

“I am not,” I said with a roll of my eyes. This is Bilko.

“Sure about that, Molls?” he asked as he eyed my helmet.

“Yeah,” I replied wanting him to leave it alone.

He looked up at me with a smirk before grabbing my favorite piece of plastic that protects my head and ran off.

“Damn it, Bilko. That’s the only helmet I brought,” I yelled as I took off after him.

If you haven’t noticed, Bilko and I have a little bit of a love hate relationship. I love him to death, but man does he get annoying sometimes. He’s actually two years older than me and I look at him like my younger brother.

“Bilko, you better give that back. You know the consequences,” I heard Todd yell with a smile in his voice.

All Bilko did was cradle the helmet under his arm like he was back in his homeland playing rugby. I was determined to get my helmet back from the Aussie. No one touches my helmet except Todd or me. Don’t ask why. It’s just one of my pet peeves.

Apparently, my endurance is a little better than his. He started slowing down after about three minutes of running. As I gained ground on him, I made a decision to jump for him. The result was me tackling him to the ground. He lay there on the ground flat as I took my helmet away with a satisfied smile.

“I tried to warn you,” Todd said with a smirk as I got off of Bilko.

“Does he ever listen?” I asked with a smile as he slowly got up.

I turned around to look at him and instantly ran to Todd. The little Aussie was coming after me with that stupid grin of his. He stopped just a few inches in front of Todd. The two stared at each other for a few seconds before busting out laughing.

“Thank you for making my morning so much more entertaining. I’m going back to bed now,” Bilko stated as he mounted his bike with his usual grin.

“But it’s one in the afternoon,” Todd smiled as Bilko started to ride of.

“Wasn’t Travis out here?” I asked noticing that he was gone, leaving the two of us to ourselves.

“He went to try and smooth things over with Katie,” he replied. I nodded my head in acknowledgment. “Why don’t I be a good boyfriend and take you out for lunch?” he went on with his bright smile glued to his face as he grabbed both of my hands.

“You don’t have to take me out to lunch to be a good boyfriend,” I teased.

“Come on. Let’s go,” he said excitedly as he started for our bikes.

We rode back to the garage side by side without exchanging words. This is normal though. It’s a little hard to hear someone if your bike’s running. Once we dismounted the machines, Todd went straight for the car. I stood there, staring at him with my hands on my hips.

“Now you’re not being a very good girlfriend,” he remarked with his head tilted slightly.

“I’m not going in this. I have dirt everywhere,” I replied as he came over to me.

“But it’s so sexy,” he whispered in my ear as his muscular hands found my hips.

I wanted to smack him. It sent shivers down my spine. He knew it too. He let out a soft chuckle.

“I’ll let you change as long as you’re done, at the most, ten minutes after me,” he smirked.

I didn’t even stay to reply. I was running through the house before he could change his expression. My riding gear was off before I even hit the closet. It takes Todd a whole two minutes to change. Me on the other hand, took a little longer. My hair looked so horrible because of my helmet. My makeup from the previous night was smudged thanks to the perspiration. Thinking that he had already changed, I hurried with my makeup and hair, leaving my clothes for last. Those were the easiest. I pulled those on with ease and hurried down the stairs to find Todd sitting on the couch, trying act all chill. It was so hard for him to fight off a smirk.

“With two minutes to spare. I’m impressed,” he smiled as he stood up and looked over my appearance.

“Do you approve?” I asked, raising an eyebrow as he circled around me.

“Oh yeah,” he smiled, putting his arm around me and leading the way to the car.

After we ate our ‘late lunch’, for some reason, we got on the subject of Bilko and Katie.

“What do you think about them?” Todd asked after he took a sip of his water.

“How?” I asked, trying to refine what he meant.

“Like Bilko helping with coaching,” he clarified.

“Oh,” I said, hating that I was wrong. I got a look from him though.

“Why oh?” he asked with his forehead wrinkled a little.

“I thought you meant it in a different way,” I replied, trying to shrug it off.

“What way?”

“Just things I notice lead me to think a certain way. That’s all,” I remarked, not really wanting to explain myself.

“What things?” he kept asking.

I sighed before I went on. “It’s just the way they look at each other. They have this gleam in their eyes.”

“What are you talking about?”

“What did you see in my eyes before we started dating?” I asked, thinking of the perfect example.

“Green,” he smirked.

“Jerk face,” I teased, throwing the paper to my straw at him. “Be honest,” I tried again.

“I don’t know how to describe it,” he said as a reddish color flushed over his scruffy tan face. He’s so cute. I gave him some time though. He knew what he was supposed to say. “There was this sparkle in your eyes that I didn’t see in any other girl. It just… made me happy. All I could do was smile… just like now,” he finished as his gorgeous big white smile showed through. That’s what I wanted to hear.

“That’s sort of what I see in Bilko’s and Katie’s eyes when they’re around each other. And I mean, look at us,” I couldn’t help but smile myself.

“Well what are we supposed to do about it?” he asked after his smile slowly faded.

“I don’t know. I just wanted to get your take on it.”

“If they have a thing for each other, it will happen on it’s own. I know you like to help people, but I would let this one slide a bit, Molls.”

“I guess you’re right,” I sighed playfully, causing him to smile once again.

“You ready to get out her, babe?” he asked as he dug in his pocket for his wallet.

I nodded my head yes, just as he threw a couple bills down on the table. Once we were in the car, I couldn’t get the thought of Bilko and Katie out of my head. I wonder if they would even work good together. I know BIlko’s older than her by a few years. Would they be compatible? I don’t know. Maybe I should be more worried about if her and Travis had made up yet…
