Life Starts After Dark

Skylar’s POV

I was driving, not even thinking about where my car and my body were taking me. I didn’t feel the need to think about such trivial things. All I knew was that I had to get there fast.

Then, without really thinking about it, I pressed harder on the gas.

My car engine purred in response as I shot forward with more speed, anxious to reach my destination. I knew I could not be far now. The sun had set, and it was time. I had to move faster. I did not know why this was so important, but it was.

Then there were lights up ahead. It was a car passing me on the other lane, I realized.

But then the car swerved, and the headlights were facing me.

I tried to slow down, but it was far, far too late for that.

I was flung forward in my seat as my car became airborne.
