You Can't Be Missed If You Never Go Away

The Medicine to Kill My Pain

Kara looked down at her messed up nails and shook her head, she stood up, “I'm going to go find the nail polish remover."

"There's one in my bag," Steff said standing up too, "I'll help you find it."

They walked into the bunk area; the girls sat down on the blonde's bunk and shuffled through the contents of her bag once she dumped them out. The light purple liquid was handed to the brunette who was clasping a bag of cotton balls in her other hand.

The girls looked up when they heard the a movie being started in the lounge area, distinctly the sound of a Disney movie; when they walked past the shade, the saw the light blue castle fade off of the screen. Jack looked back at them, he waved the case of his Aladdin movie at them and patted the cushion next to him.

"Do you girls want to join me?"

Steff looked at Kara before both girls nodded; she sat down next to Jack, the brunette on her other side. She felt Jack's arm drape over her, his fingers trailed over the exposed skin left from the sleeve of her band tee, his hand wrapped around her waist, causing her to lean against his chest.

Half way through the movie, they could hear movement coming from the front of the bus. None of them bothered to get up, knowing that people were always shuffling from bus to bus on their down time. Alex and Kyra walked into the lounge area, their fingers laced; but when they saw their ex's, their smiles faded and their hands dropped.

Steff bit her lip, contemplating Jack's words, I need a hot blonde that is willing to be a make out buddy, possibly, and I’m talking like very slim possibility here, a fuck buddy. She looked up at him, noticing the hurt look on his face as he looked at the girl he couldn't help but love. She set her eyes back on Alex, knowing that she felt the same way, even though she had learned to make herself hide it.

Slowly, she reached up and placed her hand on Jack's cheek, she turned his face to look down at hers. She ran her thumb over his bottom lip, seductively biting her own as she did so. She leaned a little closer to his face before speaking; she could see the smile creeping on to his lips.

"Are you okay?" she asked.

Jack smiled fully as he took her hand into his own to kissing her palm, "Yeah, I'm fine."

She pulled her hand back and glanced at Alex and Kyra, feeling accomplished with the weird look on their faces. Steff leaned back against his chest and placed her hand in his lap, resting it on his thigh before glancing at the television.

"Could you rewind it a little?"

"We've seen it a dozen times," Kara complained, "we already know all the lines."

"So," the other girl said shrugging, "I like to see it in complete."

"We were actually going to watch a movie or play some video games, you know, couple stuff," Alex said, "Kara has a point, you've seen it a dozen times, so would you be willing to give us the TV?"

"The movie isn't over," Jack said pouting, "I wanted to watch it."

Kyra flicked her light blonde hair over her shoulder, "Well watch it later," she snapped.

Steff stood up, grabbing Jack's hands and tugging him to his feet, "We've got better things to do anyway."

"Like what?" he asked, "I want to watch the movie!"

She couldn't help but smile at his child-like mind set, she let go of his hands and clasped his face, "You know, things." She smiled sweetly before running her hands down his torso, putting his hands on her waist, "Let's go."

"I'll go find Rian," Kara said shaking her head, "you all are making me uncomfortable - affection is one thing - and this is a little too strong."

“What’s up with that?” Alex asked nodding at them once the brunette walked out of the room.

“With what?” they asked in unison.

“Being all over each other, it’s just weird.”

Steff shrugged, “You’re imagining things, this is how we act.”

Jack bent over and kissed her neck, causing her to close her eyes, “You’re talking too much,” his whispered loud enough for Kyra to hear, “we should just go.”

They walked out of the bus, the cool air of the late afternoon brushed against their faces, causing the girl’s hair to stir in the light breeze. We was more aware of Jack’s hands on her once they were alone, she looked up at him and reached down to remove them.

“We’re alone now.”

“Right, sorry.” He set his eyes on the pink and oranges of the setting sun, “So what was that Steff, you made up your mind?”

“I saw the look hurt on your face, and I knew I felt the same way – but you, you don’t deserve it. Kyra used you, and that wasn’t fair, I don’t know how anyone could do that to you.”

“But we’re using each other right now,” Jack stated looking back at her.

“We’re not promising to fall in love, are we?” she asked slowly.

He scratched his head and leaned against the trunk of a tree, “I don’t think so, but sometimes things don’t work out as planned.”

Steff sighed and rested her head on his shoulder, standing next to him, “I know what you mean.”

Sorry I took awhile to update, I wasn't around much. I hope you guys like it!
I know most of you hate my character (Steff), but I promise you the only thing we have in common is our hair and our veggie diet - so don't hate me. ;)
