Old Places, Same Faces

"Hey stranger."

The smell smacked me hard in the face; this was most defiantly a restaurant for sure. As we walked in a lady about my Aunts age raised her arms up high and announced,
“Well, well, well, look what the cat dragged in!”
Everyone in the room looked to see what was going on, I scanned the group for a particular face but couldn’t see him. Suddenly I was being mobbed and passed around like some kind of toy,

“Oh you’re so grown up!”

“How are you?”

“What took you so long?”

“You look great!”

I just simply nodded and kindly smiled to them, a hand landed on my shoulder and I spun around.
There He was,

Nate Morella,
My Nate Morella,

Everything around us slowed down, their voices only sounded like a small buzzing in the background, my stomach felt like a billion and two butterflies were on a high speed chase, I could feel my face burn two-hundred degrees, and the sad thing was,
He only smiled at me, only smiled and I was already putty in his hands.

“Hey stranger.” He spoke softly.

I gulped and managed to squeak, “Hi.”

Chuckling, He took my arm and led me outside without the adults noticing. The restaurant was set by the main road so we watched the cars rush by as we sat on the curb. My eyes kept sneaking little glances of Nate, let me just tell you, I was satisfied with what I was seeing. My mind went right into daydream mode, I saw myself running my hands through his messy sun streaked hair, our lips sweetly touching, his board shorts grazing my legs,

“Shay? Hello? You there?” I shook the thought away and turned to face him.

“Oh, sorry about that, spaced out I guess.” I assured with an anxious grin.

Idiot

We sat for a few more minutes in silence, wondering when the other would speak up.

“So, how you been?” He finally said.

I messed around with my bangs and tried to answer as cool as possible, “Eh, decent, you?”

His tan arms held him up as he leaned back, “Same”

Come on, get it together

I opened my mouth to speak but he beat me to it,

“I’m really sorry I didn’t keep in touch Shay.”

Yeah, me too

“It’s cool I guess.” I calmly replied as I tried to keep my feelings under control.

Nate turned to face my and his magnetic force made me turn to him too; I immediately became hypnotized by his sparkling sea green eyes, mesmerized by his sun kissed skin,

God you’re stunning

“I’ve really missed you.”

Just shut up, shut up now Nate

I swallowed hard and nodded, “I’ve missed you too.”

He searched my face as if looking for something important, I felt my body melting into a big puddle of infatuation, and it killed me.

“Wanna go somewhere?” He suddenly asked in a child like tone.

The question struck me by surprise, but of I couldn’t say no, I’m not stupid.

“Sure, where?”

He beamed and grabbed my hand as he help me up from the cement,

“Just to the beach to meet some people.”

“Shouldn’t we tell them?” I said as I motioned to the crowd in the diner.

“Nah, they to occupied with whatever their talking about, it’s fine.”

He squeezed my hand and led me to what I assumed to be his truck, an old beater with chipped turquoise paint.

“You surf?” I said as I eyed the red board in the bed.

“Yeah, I’m not really good but it’s a hobby I guess.”

Nate opened the passenger door and changed his voice to a horrible English accent,

“After you my lady.”

I grinned and stepped in, slightly jumping at the sound of the door slamming harshly. He settled himself in the driver’s seat and started the ignition.
