That Little Lovebug

That night, Gianna, Lucy, Gloria, and Antonio sat at a table for four in a nearby casual Italian restaurant. It was the girls' favorite place to eat, and tonight was a celebration of sorts.

"Why do we always manage to end up here?" Antonio asked his daughter. Lucy chuckled and rolled her eyes, pointing at Gianna.

"What? I'm respecting my Italian roots!" the dark blonde teen answered, her brown eyes full of laughter. Antonio, Lucy, and Gloria laughed at her response as their waitress came over. She was tall and nice looking, with blonde and brown hair.

"Hi, I'm Natalie and I'll be your waitress for this evening. Can I start you off with drinks?" Antonio looked around the table.

"Four Diet Cokes please." Natalie smiled and nodded, going off to get their order. A family of six walked by; a mother and father with their four sons. The oldest looked about twenty-one, the second oldest looking to be around the same age, though slightly younger. The youngest looked to be around eight and the final seemed to be about sixteen.

All had the same shade of a beautiful brown for their eyes and a range of brown to black hair. The oldest and the second youngest both had curly locks and the second oldest had slightly wavy, long hair. The smallest's hair was mostly straight, except for some bends here and there.

Gianna watched Florencia, the hostess, lead the family to a nearby table. She caught the eye of the second oldest. Immediately, her palms felt clamy and her knees felt weak. Her stomach turned into a knot inside her and her pulse quickened.

Lucy watched and smiled as her best friends' cheeks tinged a light pink while the boy sent her a smile and a wink. She recognized the three older brothers from the mall when she and Gianna went. She grimaced slightly but recovered when she saw the second youngest's eyes on her. She sent a polite smile back to him as Natalie came back with the drinks.

Antonio ordered for everyone, memorizing Gianna's and Lucy's favorite dishes. They munched on the freshly-baked bread and sipped their drinks as Lorenzo, the owner and a life-long friend of Antonio and Gianna's father, stepped onto the small stage in the room and took the mic.

"Good evening everybody. I am so sorry to interrupt your meals, but tonight is a very special night for two very special young ladies here in this room. Would Lucy Jerome and Gianna Armstrong please join me up here?"

The two best friends looked at each other, wide-eyed. Gianna dropped her bread onto her plate and swallowed quickly, wiping her mouth with her napkin. Lucy did the same and they stood up, walking hand in hand to the stage. They, carefully, ascended up the stage stairs and met Lorenzo in hugs. A few of the people eating recognized the girls and clapped for them.

"Some of you may know these girls because of their angelic voices and playing abilities at the local clubs. I have known each of them since they were born and watched them grow up to be beautiful, lively, and determined young women.

Earlier today, Gianna and Lucy met with a producer from Hollywood Records. I am pleased to announce to you all here that they have been offered a record deal. And they accepted." Everyone stood up and cheered, both of the rising stars blushing and squeezing each other's hand. Lorenzo silenced the dining guests and turned to the girls.

"Now, would you be so kind as to sing for us? We know you're here to eat, but just one song?" Gianna and Lucy looked at each other. Lucy turned and saw the entire staff watching too. They knew everyone at the restaurant.

"Sure, why not?" Gianna answered, receiving more clapping. "Any requests?"

"Yes! No Purple Month, or whatever that band is called, Gianna," Antonio laughed from their table. Their small audience laughed and Gianna rolled her chocolate eyes, smiling.

"Ok, Green Day it is! Antonio, you asked for it! This one's especially for you." The restaurant staff and a few of their fans laughed. Anyone who knew who Gianna was also knew her love for Green Day.

Lorenzo pulled the curtain back to reveal an acoustic guitar, two stands, and two microphones waiting for the best friends. They sat down on the stool and Gianna held the guitar in her hands, strumming the strings to the song she had chosen. Lucy smiled at the familiar cords and pulled the microphone close to her while Gianna started the song.

Another turning point
A fork stuck in the road
Time grabs you by the wrist
Directs you where to go
So make the best of this test
And don't ask why
It's not a question
But a lesson learned in time

It's something unpredictable
But in the end it's right
I hope you had the time of your life

So take the photographs
And still frames in your mind
Hang it on a shelf of good health and good time
Tattoos of memories and dead skin on trial
For what it's worth
It was worth all the while
It's something unpredictable
But in the end it's right
I hope you had the time of your life.....

It's something unpredictable
But in the end it's right
I hope you had the time of your life.....

It's something unpredictable
But in the end it's right
I hope you had the time of your life.....

Across the room, two certain love-struck boys watched the performance in front of them. The nineteen-year-old watched the beautiful eighteen-year-old, dark blonde, starlet as she sang the words to the song, strumming the guitar with ease. There was something about this girl that he couldn't seem to place. He didn't even know her, except for a name, but he felt like he had known her a lifetime. Maybe it was how she came across; witty, funny, full of life, fun-loving. Or maybe it was her beauty; her chocolate eyes mesmerized him the moment they made contact with is own. Her red halter top showed off some of her Italian skin, tan from both her roots and the sunny weather. Her unique hair color matched her perfectly; her hair was in loose waves around her glowing face. Her voice rang through him as she hit every note perfectly. Next to him, his sixteen-year-old brother had the same problem. He couldn't seem to take his eyes off of the sixteen-year-old beauty before him.

Bottom line; these boys were head over heels in the moment.
They had caught the lovebug.

The two friends sang the last note and held it for a few seconds before ending the song. Gianna strummed the chorus one last time before setting the guitar on its stand.

"Thank you, Billie Joe Armstrong," she smiled, putting the microphone back to the way it was. Among the clapping, laughs were heard. She hugged Lucy before doing a small curtsie, Lucy laughing and rolling her eyes.

They returned to their table and smiled proudly. They caught the stare of two of the sons from before and smiled and waved. As though they were in a daze, they waved back. Gianna sent the older of the two a wink and blew him kiss, making him blush.

Lucy smiled at her friend and rolled her eyes.
Oh Gianna, what a tease.
