Two of a Kind

12 b. Everlong

Dan dreams of deep green, green forests, the faint scent of rain carried on the warm winds and soft, pillowy moss warmed by small rays of sunlight and there is something at the edge of his consciousness, he’s grasping after the little sliver of awareness that tells him that he’s not alone in the warmth and-

The dark was folded around him, or were his eyes just closed? He was lying on his side, his hand was resting on a warm, soft curve (like moss), and he felt small puffs (breezes) of warm air roll across his cheek. The cold tip of a nose barely touched his as she inched her face even closer to his. There was a hesitant stop, the sweep of a loving hand down the small of his back, and then the warm, feather light press of lips to his cheek. He had no idea what time it was, or if it was just imagination, but he couldn’t bring himself to care as the lips lingered, and he slowly shifted his head, feeling the other respond in doing the same, not losing their silent connection. Millimetre by millimetre they travelled, until he could feel the corner of her mouth touch the corner of his.

And they kissed. There was fire all through out Daniel’s nerve system, a warm liquid like hot chocolate through his veins on a cold, cold day, the hand on the small of his back pressed closer, so he moved with it, her legs entwined with his, but he didn’t move too close, in fear that she’d might notice how this was making him react. He didn’t want her to get the wrong idea. But she pressed even closer, and the words ‘it’s okay sweetie, those things happen’ repeated themselves in his mind for a quick second, until all of her body pressed into his, and how could he not have noticed before how they fit together like the pieces of a puzzle?

They were moving now, wordless and fluent, hands sliding further up the almost threadbare shirt that has already moved up to expose an almost burning warm belly. His heart beats just as irregularly as he is breathing, but trying to control it has no effect. A squeak escapes her lips as he timidly rolls his lower body against hers. Through the fog of sleep he feels a careful hand slide around his side, from his back, tracing invisible patterns on its feather light way, before tentatively drawing circles around his navel. Lips disconnect with his, but only just enough for them to part, noses still together. There is a question in the way her hand is posed, and the way he just knows she is looking at him.
‘Can I?’
He opens his eyes. The deepest, riches forest meets his gaze, studying him carefully as his hand moves even further up, shamelessly bringing the worn fabric with it.
’Yes.’
She sits up, never breaking the kiss, and straddles his hips. The most basic parts of his brain tells him to push up, but he is conscious enough not to. Instead, he leans up, until he is sitting with her in his lap, his hands on her hips, slowly moving upward along the sides of her back, taking the shirt the rest of the way. Her lips are red from kissing, and so are her cheeks. She is panting a little and Dan can almost imagine that her heart is beating as heavy as his. Emily leans down, looking him deep in the eye.
“You sure?” She whispers, fingers carefully marking how serious a question it is by caressing the hem of his underwear. This wasn’t his first time, neither was it hers, but it could just as well have been. Nothing had ever felt like this. Ever. Despite all this seriousness, Dan nods.
“You?” Emily smiled, and nodded, her hair tickling his skin, making him shiver.

Carefully he reached around her back, unclasping her bra, not quite taking it off.
He spun them around, easing her onto her back, and removed all the textile barriers between them. Kissing along her neck and up her throat, he moved his way back up, his hands adoring every inch of skin laid bare. There was something desperate in the way she grabbed onto his hand, just like the way he kissed her was nothing like the calm kisses they shared earlier. There were so many emotions fighting for his attention, that when he heard her whisper his name, he couldn’t help but stare in awe.

Just like he couldn’t help but letting the tears fall when they both came undone.
