Love Note

“Listen for the voice of God, then follow it, and know that in time you will find your salvation.” No one was paying any attention to the nerdy Mr. Haruno, who was reading enthusiastically through a paragraph in an old literature book. Today we were translating into English. Though I was the only person in the class who used English as my native tongue – everyone else being Japanese – I still found the subject extremely hard, and not to mention boring. After all, I had to work out what the text said in Japanese first. As soon as he had opened the book, I had automatically zoned out and began daydreaming about my school crush…

“Yagami? Are you still with us?” Haruno asked, thoughtfully.

Just as the boy being addressed raised his head from his hand, following his exact response, I stared curiously over to the English teacher. Isn’t it ironic how you can be thinking of something…or someone…and then something happens, or someone might say something, that follows up with those thoughts…I shook my head, feeling my cheeks heat up a little. Coincidence, that’s all. After all, when do I not think of Light Yagami?

And though Light had been addressed by the teacher, and he had responded, and I had also returned my attention, the rest of the class continued to blather amongst themselves. It made a lot more sense that Light was the cleverest in the class. He was the only one who paid attention. I embarrassingly only listened in when I wanted to, for example now, when his name had been mentioned.

“Can you please translate the following sentence into English?” Haruno requested, staring over his rectangle shaped glasses.

I took a sideways glance over to the left of the class, where Light sat. The morning light was catching down onto his face through the large windows, masking him in a white glow. It was almost angelic. He closed his eyes and with a sigh, he grudgingly stood up, taking his book in his hands. I was pretty thankful that Haruno never bothered me to stand up in front of everyone. Things like that brought me out in a cold sweat. Speaking in front of the class was definitely not my thing. But Light made it look easy.

“Follow the teachings of God and receive his blessings.” Light translated, his voice steady and perfect, as always. “And so it shall be, that the seas will again be bountiful. And the raging storms shall subside…”

He slowly sat back down after a quick praise from Haruno and a few giggles and applauds from the girls at the back. Ignoring them all, he rested his chin back down onto his hand and stared outside. Light was popular, and he was intelligent, and of course, he was handsome, but he acted like those things were nothing. I always felt like he expected to be something better. But in my eyes, he was perfect.

Yay, Death Note!!! I kept the first chapter short and simple, the only excuse is because i felt it gave the last paragraph more of an impact ending it there. (If you've read/watched Death Note, you'll understand - if not you'll find out soon!)

How cute's the front page? *drools*
