That's Where You Take Me

Almost a week later Gary Sanders was sitting on his back patio with his wife when he heard Matt yell out for him. He glanced at Kim and she was up and out of her seat in a heart beat. The two of them made their way to the front of the house and Rowan was immediately engulfed in Kims arms. She hugged the woman back and pulled back shaking her head.

“I’m so glad you came back dear.”

“I would’ve eventually…” Rowan trailed off as Kim glanced at her left hand.

“Matthew Sanders!” Kim exclaimed and Matt looked at his mom and did his best to act innocent, and keep the smirk off his face.

“Yes mom?”

“Don’t yes mom me… you… HOW COULD YOU!!”

“How could he what Kim?”

“He married her!! Without telling us… without us being there! First he pisses her off and chases his pregnant fiance all the way across the country. He brings her back with a wedding ring on her finger!” Matt glanced sideways at Rowan and noticed that she was trying to hide the fact that she was laughing. He raised an eyebrow at her. She just smiled through her laughter.

“But what matters Kim…” Rowan broke off laughing and tried to compose herself before continuing. “…what matters is that he came back married to the woman he chased all the way across the country that’s carrying your grandchild.”

“Well, yeah but still he could of warned us. Either of you could’ve called!” Kim exclaimed.

“We wanted to surprise everyone. We didn’t want anyone talking us out of it.” Matt said.

“Matt, that’s the last thing anyone of us would’ve done.”

“Not my mom…” Rowan said suddenly not laughing but looking a little upset.

“Oh honey what’s that mean?”

“She called…” and Rowan burst into tears.

“Shh, baby it’s all gonna be okay. I promise.” Matt said pulling his crying wife towards him.

“She didn’t even ask where I was, or how I was. All she had to say was I told you so.” And Rowans tears fell harder. Kim watched as she buried her face against Matt’s chest and made a split second decision. She turned to Gary and said something to him and he nodded and they both got the other two’s attention.

“Since you two didn’t tell anyone, at least let us throw you a party tomorrow night. Just to celebrate and invite everyone over. Your mother included Rowan, you can tell everyone then. Take tonight to yourselves.” Gary said and Rowan hugged her father in law. Gary smiled at her and he and Kim both watched as the couple left.

“Well at least they’re happy.” Kim said.

“She was smiling. Matt was smiling. Kim I just hope he doesn’t mess up again.”

“I don’t think he will.”

Matt unlocked the front door and Rowan walked inside smiling as she glanced around the house. She sighed and walked towards the kitchen. She raised an eyebrow at the smell in the room. She glanced at the sink and turned and walked back out yelling for Matt.

“We just got home I couldn’t possibly have done anything wrong.” Matt said meeting her in the hallway.

“Why’s there a trashed bottle of Jack in the sink?”

“Uhm because?” Matt said looking at her. She just raised an eyebrow at him.

“Well you better go and clean it up because the smell is gonna make me vomit.”

“Okay” Matt said and walked towards the kitchen. Rowan was suddenly shocked. Was he not arguing about cleaning something up? She followed him and stood in the entryway watching as he cleaned up the mess.

“So are you gonna tell me who did that?”

“I did.”

“Really? Why?” Rowan asked tilting her head to the side.

“Because Brian and his father thought it would be funny to tell me that you were living with some guy…”

“Well I was…”

“But they didn’t tell me that that guy happened to be really gay and a friend.”

“Aww, were you jealous?”

“Yes, yes I was.” Matt said standing and moving towards her. He stood in front of her and wrapped her as best he could in his arms. “I couldn’t stand the thought of you living with another guy. Being with someone else. I’m selfish and want you to myself. That and I couldn’t stand the thought of another man possibly raising our baby.” Rowan shook her head in disbelief and wrapped her arms around his neck and let him lean down and kiss her. When he pulled away from her there was a smile on his face and her phone was vibrating in her pocket. She sighed and pulled it out and looked down at it. A smile spread across her face as she read the text from her brother.

When are you gonna be home?

I’ll see you tomorrow Coby…leave me alone and quit asking me.

Hey just haven’t seen you in almost a month. I miss you like crazy sis.

I’ll see you tomorrow, I’m turning my phone off now.

After she sent the last message to Coby she hit the end button on her phone and powered it off. She glanced up as Matt walked out of the kitchen after finishing cleaning up the mess that he had left. Rowan smiled at him and he said nothing as she set her phone down.

“Your brother still annoying you?”

“Yes.”

“He’ll see you tomorrow, he’ll get over it.”

“Yes he will. So any other messes in the house?”

“Probably the bedroom…”

“The bedroom…?” Rowan asked fearing the worst.

“I don’t think I made the bed last time I attempted to sleep in it… my clothes are probably all over the floor. I tried to spend as little time as possible in that room.”

“We’ll clean it up in the morning. I’m tired and want to go to bed.”

“Okay” Matt said and followed her up the staircase and down the hall to their room. Rowan walked in and shook her head and started throwing Matt’s clothes off the bed and walked to the dresser and pulled out some old baggy pajama’s and put them on noticing that they weren’t baggy on her anymore. She rested a hand on her stomach and smiled across the room at Matt who was fixing the bed so they could sleep. He looked up and his eyes met hers. She smiled and walked to him and he kissed her before he stripped down to his boxers and crawled into bed with her pulling her close to him and cuddling close just happy to be holding her.
