I Just Want You

No, you’re not breaking up with me.

Dylan was right. I needed to finally stop whatever Mattie and I had going on, and go after Tom. I was starting to get very tired of Mattie’s head games anyways. I still wasn’t sure what we were. He was a mystery, that’s for sure.

I grabbed my trusty bag, pulled on some shoes, and made my way off the bus. I wasn’t sure where Matt was. So I was going to use the time I spent looking for him to figure out how to end… whatever it was that we had going.

After twenty minutes of searching I was starting to get discouraged and starting to second-guess my decision. What if Tom had just kissed me on some stupid dare? What if that was just some big joke to him? Was I really going to take this risk? Dylan could be wrong; Mattie and I could be good together… if we ever got together.

Suddenly there were large cold hands covering my eyes, as a raspy voice asked, “guess who?”

I couldn’t help but giggle, “Mattie?”

“Aw, how’d ya know it was me?” he removed his hands and shoved them in his pockets, a small pout on his face.

I shrugged, my smile fading. I was going to do this, “Matt I think we really need to stop whatever we’ve got going on… I think we’re just better off as friends, ya know? I really care for you, but it’s just not… the same.”

He looked confused, “are you breaking up with me?”

I shrugged once again, “I guess you could call it that…”

He shook his head, “no, you’re not breaking up with me.”

“um… yeah… I think I am,” I was a little confused by that reaction.

He just stared at me, “but… no, you cant… I-“

“Mattie stop,” I cut him off, “we’re over. That’s that. This is the end, and I hope we can stay friends.”

I quickly started to walk away before he could say anything else. He was kinda freaking me out a little. I was going to find Johnny and the guys. They were probably doing something fun that would take my mind off of whatever just happened.

The guys were all sitting in shitty old lawn chares in the grass beside their van. Johnny was wearing a large hat that a grandmother would wear while gardening, and he was playing a game boy. Charlie and Tim were lying in only their underwear and where slightly shining due to sun tan lotion, so I could only assume they were tanning. And Batman was kicking a soccer ball around by himself. They certainly were a strange bunch.

“Hay guys,” I smiled as I plopped down in Johnny’s lap, “guess what!”

“Eddie Murphy’s making shitty music again?” Bruce asked, looking very serious.

“Close, but no,” I grinned at him, “I finally ended it with Mattie.”

Charlie and Tim simultaneously threw their hands in the air and yelled, ‘yes’. Batman did the same, only a few seconds after. While Johnny grunted and asked how it went.

“It was a little weird actually… he tried to tell me that we weren’t breaking up.”

They all exchanged a glance before bursting out in laughter. I couldn’t help but laugh along with them. I felt a little bit bad though, but it was just too funny to hold it in any longer.

“Oh, god,” Johnny sighed as he calmed down, “that’s the saddest thing I’ve heard in a long time.”

“Did he really try and tell you that you weren’t breaking up?” Charlie asked as he started to apply a little more sunscreen to his stomach.

I nodded, “yeah, I was really confused.”

“I can imagine,” Tim chuckled, “it’s kinda a creepy thing to say, ya know?”

“Yeah,” Batman agreed, “but, now it’s time to move on and play soccer with me.”

there was a simultaneous moan from the guys. I just laughed and got up off of Johnny’s lap.

“I’ll play.”

Batman grinned, “Good, I’ll be goalie… the goal will be between those two trees.”

“Alright.”

And so our soccer match started. Eventually Johnny joined in. and when Tim and Charlie decided that had had enough tanning, they too joined in. it was definitely more fun when we were all playing. These guys always knew how to keep me smiling, and I loved them for it.
